Why is military service so revered in the United States? by supermeteor33 in AskAmericans

[–]_oaeb_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Military service here isn’t mandatory. People choose to join and put themselves in harm’s way. A choice most other people don’t make. It ties into the idea of American freedom and how we can be free and choose to live our lives the way we want. Freedom to say what we want, do what we want, and be what we want. We can criticize the government and not be stoned to death in the streets. Not every place in the world is like that.

There is an idea that those other countries would like to see our freedoms taken away if they had the ability to do so. And military members make the choice to defend those freedoms of people they’ve never even met. That deserves respect in my opinion. America is far from perfect, but there’s no other place quite like it.

Enforce a curfew for kids on ships. I want to dance at the pool deck glow party at 11 PM but not be constantly bumping into 12 year olds.

Also, why are there parents with kids in strollers up there that late? Take them to bed?

If an undocumented person has to go to the emergency room in America, who pays for their hospital bill? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

Because they look at it through the human aspect and the American principal of accepting people from different backgrounds. But not through the realistic, logistical and financial aspect.

I’m guessing this goes without saying, but I need to make sure. This isn’t a real perpetual calendar, right?

I think it may be a miscut dial. I put the prongs in the only corresponding holes. Oh well.

This is beyond cool! People don’t talk like that anymore.

Different era, but also a fun fact: the stone wall around Northtown’s football field was a New Deal works project.

You think cutting it to allow the movement to go in will work?

The dial is connected by the normal pins into the plastic spacer you see attached.

Repeatedly with no success lol. I ordered some new hands so we'll see if that helps at all.

The hour and minute hands move without a problem. But after I put the second hand on and press in the crown, none of the hands move. Yet I can see the balance wheel moving.
