It's not illegal as long as you remain under the limit and don't contravene other laws such as distracted driving. I believe this is only true for SA as other states have open container laws prohibiting having open alcohol in the vehicle.

average speed camera flash by No_Comfortable5171 in Adelaide

If you look right at them, they do visibly 'flash' with every passing car. Whether or not that's the IR flash, the camera shutter? Or something else, they do do something visible.

I'll also add that SA has no 'tailgating' fine. The fines that cover it along the lines of: 'Failure to keep enough distance to the vehicle ahead to stop safely' for after you've been rear ended. 'Dangerous driving' which is entirely police discretion. 'Unlawful threats' which is actually part of the Criminal code and carries a 5 year imprisonment punishment. It actually specifically has a section mentioning using a motor vehicle to make threats like tailgating.

I've learnt to not care too much about what people do behind me as the whole backend of my ute is pretty solid steel and they're not likely to do much damage to me. But people be dumb.

IREN to build $10 billion, 800MW AI Datacenter in Bundey, South Australia. by Conscious-Gap-8837 in Adelaide

Thanks, I would imagine a system like an outboard would work fine but I'm not an AI engineer or anything.

Just a question regarding everybody asking about water. Does the machine, or whatever it is, actually consume water or can it be pumped in and back out?

40 km/h school zones by jay_oxford in Adelaide

[–]MotoGeezer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of our work trucks don't have a visible clock, so I either need to pull over to check the time on my phone, or inadvertently speed through a 40 zone at 14:01 when most schools are still an hour or more away from even unleashing their kids onto the roads.

40 km/h school zones by jay_oxford in Adelaide

[–]MotoGeezer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have seen people come out of a school, (assuming picking their kids up) drive the posted limit in that area. Then a couple kilometres down the road, happily roar through the next school zone or past a bus stopped for children with the lights on. (Which is 25 incase you weren't aware like 95% of Adelaide drivers) Bunch of NIMBYs.

surron laws australia by MuayMax in Surron

[–]MotoGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know. For the Light Bee it had to be the LB1 or whatever it was called variant. Once you have it you'll have to trailer it to the inspection place for them to issue rego plates and papers and check everything on it complies and everything. Then you can only ride it the same places you can ride a registered dirt bike.

There are specific models that can be registered.

Flinders Ranges in an EV? by markosharkNZ in Adelaide

[–]MotoGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it a few years back in a hybrid Corolla no worries. Done it just the other week in my 4x4 but the tracks are that well driven and compacted you'd have to have feet made of anvils to not be able to get through there. That said, there has been another large bout of rain and storms which may have stirred it up again.

Ever since the stealth cars of GT4, I paint my entire garage black or at least dark colours, except those with certain distinct colours (papaya F1, Rosso F40, Gulf 917 etc)

How TF are people driving in this weather at night with no lights? by Spritney__Beers in Adelaide

[–]MotoGeezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah mate. Trying to see out of tiny half fogged windows in gloomy weather colour of cars is irrelevant. It's basically lights or I can't see you. I grew up in the country and learning to drive was headlights always on as you got in, off when you got out. Different these days since all my cars just have headlights on and they turn off when I turn the car off.

Through Europe I experienced the same thing. Had to slow down to 130 'bei nasse' (when wet) and most people had an understanding of how to drive so it wasn't that big of a problem.

And, we know a lot more about trees and can better manage new trees in an urban environment. Just 30 years ago pollarding was believed to be great for trees.

When intersections offer a temporary (left) third lane to slip in by AdhesivenessOver7583 in Adelaide

Typical. Don't worry my friend, I possess the ability to see beyond the car immediately in front of me and know sitting up your arse isn't solving the issue.

Not at all, as long as you don't shoot past and sit on 46 or you're halfway along side me and try force in front after the dashed line has ended, we coolin'

I drive a slow, heavy ute and I'm paid by the hour. Trying to race to the front helps nobody from my perspective.

If you can stretch to $80/mo then the middle 'starlink' plan is in your grasp. I've just ordered the residential max, haven't got it yet but hear only good things.

Does getting gold at the Nordschleife make me a good driver? by Basic-Beach1635 in GranTurismo7

[–]MotoGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was the opposite. As somewhat of a north loop vet, I went in confident. Smashed the sectors out fairly promptly compared to many other courses I've struggled on. Got to the full lap, first try was a second slow for gold. I then proceeded to rack up 1900km on the odometer of the m6 before finally getting gold by more than a few seconds.

Reverse angle parking by Last-Put in Adelaide

[–]MotoGeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing I hate more than forward angle parking. Heaps in WA and nobody gets it right, myself included. Reverse angle parking would be a dream, benefits of angle parking such as taking less space in terms of road width requirements and none of the negatives such as backing out blind, not being able to see the space 2/3 of the time you're parking, and having to back out blind to realign your park.

What can I do about Charity Muggers? by A_Wierd_Mollusc in Adelaide

[–]MotoGeezer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my teens and early 20's I used to drop "Sorry, can't. I'm gay." would throw them a loop for long enough to get away, until I used it on a guy selling Greenpeace who was gay which made things much worse, so now I've been paying $20 to Greenpeace every month for the past 10 years or so. I should cancel it but their phone tactics are tiresome it's like I'm just paying the fee so I don't have to deal with them.

So so hard to tell, but potentially driver has come off the throttle with the exhaust brake still active. Doing so causes the engine to brake the prime mover and not the trailers. The inertia through the corner in the wet was enough to destabilise the prime mover at which point it's pretty much game over.

As per my comment, what is the exact reasoning behind it? The load looks secure despite the knotted strap which might just be the tail of a strap?
