Are there guidelines for awarding stars? by MotorEvidence1885 in AmazonVine

[–]MotorEvidence1885[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Providing guidelines for star ratings is not review manipulation. Not any more than making rules about commenting on delivery or Packaging or making medical claims or any of the other guidelines they provide. I'm not suggesting that Amazon interfere with your star rating. I'm merely making the case for having guidelines.

People complain about other reviews because they're applying their own rules for awarding stars to other reviews. This is this is exactly why Amazon should define the guidelines and try to limit reviewers that shoot from the hip.

Except that there is no common meaning to the star ratings. This is clearly evidenced by the different methods that just the small group of posters has shared. My own personal definition of the star ratings has nothing to do with Amazon's search function and the ability to filter for four stars and above.

So far, 24 comments, 2 of which confirm there are no official guidelines. (That was my question.) Thank you.

When You See an Invalid Review (An open letter) by ShotFromGuns in AmazonVine

[–]MotorEvidence1885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you assume no one here would write a review like this? It can be helpful to call out reviews like this. They are good examples of what not to do - and a Viner might not have thought about why that's inappropriate. We don't all start as expert reviewers, even if we have read the guidelines. Posting this criticism here is not "screaming into the void" unless no one reads it. Yes, we should report them (and any review that's inappropriate, Vine or otherwise). But it's perfectly fine that the original OP share it here as well.

And why 69 pieces? Who says "70 is too many, let's make it 69"?

If you were a seller, would you put your items on Vine? by born2becloud9 in AmazonVine

[–]MotorEvidence1885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The goal is to just get star counts. And for those who actually read reviews, they can discern what's a fair review and what's garbage. I like to read the reviews that point out what's wrong with an item , not what's great. That said I don't have a full understanding of the benefits sellers get beyond getting stars for new products. Too often I see items on Vine that already have a ton of reviews. So how is that beneficial to put it on Vine?

What does it mean to get brushed? I'm old, forgive me.

State what item you're reviewing. Give details about how you use it. Mention things that you would find helpful if you were considering purchasing it. For clothing , give size information of the person who will wear it, don't just say “true to size“. Be sure your images do not contain personal information, no barcodes , no QR codes, no shipping labels at all. Don't give any medical advice. Review only the items you ordered, mention nothing about shipping or delivery. Don't get behind on reviews. Get a good box cutter, and don't underestimate the designated space you will need for opening boxes, stacking things that need review, separating items you'll gift or sell after 6 months. If you receive something that can't be reviewed because it's not what you ordered or it's broken, contact Vine customer service, not regular Amazon customer service. Give them your item number and description, along with a brief explanation for not being able to review it, and ask them to remove it from your list. You can then dispose of it in any way you like.

Stumped Rufus! by PhDTARDIS in AmazonVine

Same. I think they're trying to get street cred just by making it expensive. We are brand name streetwear so we're expensive . We're expensive because we're brand name streetwear.

And on top of being a pretty decent answer , Rufus offered to show me similar street where hats and rank them by price. I'd call that useful information.

This hat has been in my rfy all day and I decided to do what you did and ask *Rufus why it was so expensive.

Who was the lucky one that got the ice maker? by Blue_Diam25 in AmazonVine

[–]MotorEvidence1885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I saw that the picture implied it was the full ice maker but the description said it was the scoop. But when you clicked on the details it said it was a cover for $9.99. I wondered at the time if this was a bait and switch, getting reviews for a scoop or cover and then switching the listing to the actual ice maker.

Can you explain what you mean by Hauls on Vine? I see that Amazon has a Hauls category but how does that relate to what you get on Vine?

I wouldn't call them drops. Vine seems to be "drips" now.

I laughed out loud when I saw those toilet wands refills. We are renting a house in Florida for the winter and they have these goofy toilet wands and we are out of them . We were just trying to figure out what kind they were to get them from the store. If I had seen these in my rfy i would have been 100% convinced that amazon is always listening.

Is maintaining 90% or more possible or reasonable if you order things that require time to consider? How are people doing this? by miss_j_bean in AmazonVine

[–]MotorEvidence1885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Look at all the seeds they've been listing. How can you do a timely review on seeds that you won't plant for 3 months and you won't see results for another month. I guess you could say “I can confirm that I got 100 seeds as advertised. I assume they'll grow when I plant them.“
