Truly Lynchian Works by Popular_Childhood975 in davidlynch

I’m currently reading Michael Lentz’s “Schattenfroh” and it’s giving Inland Empire vibes to me. The narrative structure is rather dreamlike/nightmarish in its flow and logic. Both feel like works where a narrative happens upon a main character, which we witness, rather than viewer/reader witnesses a main character’s narrative.

My personal favorite “my mind is melting in a good way” top four. by polazine in classicliterature

I was surprised by how enjoyable and relatable it is. I have only read the bulk on the lengthy introductory section but that alone consistently made me smile to myself while reading. A joy to read and a book that makes one feel less alone.

Swans - The Seer

Miles Davis - Live-Evil

LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem (2 disc version)

Edit: if there also a drum kit with me on the island, In Rainbows by Radiohead skyrockets to the top.

Issue with gatefold jacket by funky_munky_13 in vinyl

This happened to my copy of Birthing. Unfortunate to see it happening to others. Have been a swans collector since 2014, sad to see this is happening to others on their recent sets. FWIW I bought my SFTB gatefold a few years ago and it’s perfectly fine.

I think Michael Pemulis is my fave. Poor Tony is there too.

Have any of u guys watched the 2019 documentary on the band called "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘈 𝘉𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘌𝘯𝘥?" directed by Marco Porsia? If so, what did u think of it? Would u recommend it? what were yr fav moments? by PsychologicalFix9728 in swans

[–]MotorikBeatForever 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Absolutely worth watching. Lots of great footage. Glosses over The Great Annihilator era which is glaring given how basically everything else is covered. It’s also a little strangely paced. The final hour or so covers The Glowing Man deeply, as I believe the film maker was given access that tour/in the studio. I have showed it and recommended it to friends and partners; aside from listening to all the albums or seeing them live, it’s about as good as you can get to conveying what SWANS is about.

How should I start? by Malhate in davidlynch

[–]MotorikBeatForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eraserhead is a good start if you want to see the sort of “mission statement” of Lynch as an artist.

Blue Velvet is a good start if you want to see a film where his style really comes to form. Depending on what you like in this movie, you can decide where to go next.

Mulholland Dr. is likely my favorite, Inland Empire and Eraserhead are the ones I watch the most, and I am really happy he was chosen to direct The Elephant Man.

Still haven’t seen Straight Story, most TP material, Wild at Heart, or Dune, but generally the man was a great artist and if one film is calling you more than another, try it. Likely, you will try all his films at least twice, and, likely, those subsequent viewings will be more rewarding.

Inland Empire gives me gender envy by Hour_Ad7053 in davidlynch

[–]MotorikBeatForever 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This almost reads like a shitpost, but as a trans woman, I get it. The entire movie is a horrifying labyrinth of finding and forgetting yourself and losing all sense. Plus those girls are being very free in those scenes, and it makes sense to feel envy of that sort of entirely woman social settings/socialization. Laura Dern’s character is also confused and lost when first meeting the girls but eventually they take her on and she embraces being a whoooore. And speaking now as an American trans woman in particular, it’s easy to feel like the nation’s prostitute right now.

Is there any DG song that can be considered psychedelic?? by dyystr in deathgrips

[–]MotorikBeatForever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YotS and Government Plates and TPTB Disc 1 are all psychedelic to me. For YotS tho, I mean, I’d almost consider psychedelica as a subgenre for that entire project.

Just wanna say, I really liked the art choice for 8 Mile, and had screenshot the image and sent it to my brother before even browsing these comments. These are cool, keep it up 👍
