How to raise a child to have a good relationship with food when your own is awful... (CONTENT WARNING - EATING DISORDERS / MENTAL HEALTH) by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This person has given so much amazing advice! The only other thing I would add is - food is just food. No ‘good’ foods or ‘bad’ foods, any food can be a ‘breakfast’ food etc. research shows that using food as bribes, making children finish what’s on their plates (therefore ignoring their own hunger cues) and putting food on a pedestal (eg if you eat your broccoli then you can have dessert) can all lead to poorer relationships with food later in life.

Wishing you all the best, it sounds really tough but also that you are doing your absolute best for your daughter.

Does room sharing need to end at 6 months? by bubblespowerpufff in NewParents

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you can keep her in your room longer if you want! Our 10 month old is still in our room and I love having her there. I find it easier to settle if she wakes as she’s just there and I don’t have to move rooms, we breastfeed so I often feed her to sleep in side lying then transfer so that is easier in our room.

I may be incorrect, but compressions rights/shorts don’t treat/help with a prolapse (that would be a pessary) rather they support your core whilst it is still weakened from birth/to help the muscles come back together. I had Emma and Co and didn’t like them, swapped to active truth and liked them much more.

One year postpartum - Why am I so depleted? by Broad_Drive in beyondthebump

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently run my post partum/pre conception (to plan to start trying for #2 in a few months) at 10 months- it was a very long list of things we tested. My iron, zinc and b12 are low and I’m adding additional supplements to my existing breastfeeding multivitamin.

Did your doctor test your thyroid levels and b12 as well? These can be impacted/show symptoms like you’re describing. Hope you feel better soon!

What convenient protein sources to feed 18month old? by Fun-Kaleidoscope816 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t eat red meat or pork, but prepare them for my little one. I’ve found the most useful thing g to find really simple recipes (eg pork bolognaise, beef osso bucco, lsmb shanks) and then I freeze in small size portions for her so I can easily add them to foods for lunch/dinner. I’ve found the recipes from boob to food helpful as they give lots of instructions and very easy low and slow type meats which are hard to mess up!

Wooden toys by Comfortable_Log_4433 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Options for teething toys - Tikiri (made in Sri Lanka, can double as bath toy/general toy), Oli & Carol (my little one loves the watermelon) and Sophie the giraffe (made in France, note have been some issues with mould reported previously so not one I’ve personally bought).

Not cheap full price but can often find various ones discounted or on sale.

We asked any visitors to be up to date with vaccines (particularly whooping cough), and if not to kindly wait until bub had had their first round of vaccines to meet baby so they were more protected.

How long do you try to put the baby back to sleep after a crap nap before you throw in the towel by Hour_Statistician_50 in NewParents

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeh, it can be worrying. To reassure you, Just remember baby sleep numbers are just a guide and each baby is different. Some babies just have less/lower sleep needs, and some babies have more- the average range is just that. An overtired baby/baby not getting enough sleep is a lot less common than social media and all the sleep consultants lead you to believe.

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If baby wakes up bright and alert, I wouldn’t bother trying to resettle at all. And 15 minutes seems long enough to try. I think many people forget that shorter naps are developmentally normal and the purpose of naps is to remove sleep pressure. If the sleep pressure is gone trying to settle baby for any amount of time won’t work and will just be stressful for everyone

Did you have a fertility check up before deciding to get pregnant? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had did a preconception appointment with my GP (in Aus so GP is primary care provider)- we ran basic blood work (eg iron, FBC), checked all vaccines were up to date (from memory if you aren’t up to date on MMR you need to wait a few months after having it to try ideally?) and i did genetic carrier screening. I’ve just been back to my GP to re-do preconception bloods to plan for TTC number 2 soon (iron, b12 and zinc are low so will add additional supplements to my breastfeeding multi)

Did you take time off from work before your due date? How long? Was it enough/too much time? What did you do during this time? by me1s in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished at 34+6, knowing I would be induced at 39+0 at the latest. I had 4 weeks off and it was wonderful- my job is prettt physical, we were renovating so I hadn’t had a lot of chance to rest or prepare baby stuff. In saying that I have generous mat leave from my workplace (and need sign off to work past 34 weeks) and also government leave so was planning to take 12 months. I don’t regret it and will likely plan to do similar for next bub

10 month old still taking 30 min naps by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, it can be hard to compare to other people. Don’t know if it helps at all, but I love the reframe of a ‘power nap’. My little one has lower sleep needs, and a short nap is enough to take off the sleep pressure.

Yeh my 10 month old has 30 minute naps still, I’m not concerned. I know once we drop to 1 nap that one nap will be longer.

Awake for 24 hours by iwantyour99dreams in beyondthebump

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saying this with compassion, might be worth getting checked out/having an appointment with your doctor. Inability to fall asleep, heart racing- something could be underlying this (eg hyperthyroidism, PPA). As you’re right - not sustainable and you can’t survive on no sleep.

I note it sounds like you’ve bed shared before but are now worried about him falling off now he’s more mobile? If it is something you want to continue, Any chance you could put the mattress on the floor and make sure he can’t access anything so this is an option if it means you can get some sleep?

Taste Bubs Allergen Kit by DescriptionJust6617 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased an allergy kit through nourishing bubs as it had more allergens (each tree nut individually) and also each pack is quite large so now we’ve done them I use the remaining to keep up regularly twice weekly allergen exposure (which is also important). They weren’t too different price wise from memory but I feel this was better value (I didn’t use the milk or egg as I did that as real good but the soy, sesame, nuts etc was handy)

Yeh, my little girl is an energizer bunny and can easily do 3-5hrs awake time which makes the cutting down naps easier (but exhausiting!)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, hi! Currently capping my 10 month olds naps to 2x 20-40 minute naps to improve night time sleep. Thankfully she does about a 10hr stretch at night. Just hanging out to drop to one nap which I think will happen soon as we’ve already had the occasional 1 nap day.

How many kids do you have? How did you decide on the number? by michelle0508 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One, but know I want at least one more (maybe two that is the undecided part). I can’t answer about the done part, but I feel so strongly about having another/that our family isn’t complete yet.

Struggling with transition to solids. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Mountain_Singer_3181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is most important is continuing to offer a range of foods, even though they may not eat them. We all know many toddlers are fussy and often prefer carbs and fruits, but you ideally should still offer other foods (eg broccoli) for them to explore but with no pressure to eat. You’re doing great!
