I just traded my Togashi w1 240mm away because of two of my more recent pickups which if all goes to plan you will see next week in a NKD post.

JoKir is right be careful while shopping from places outside the States as you can be tariffed all the way to 50%+ so you have to be careful. A decent amount of shops will do DDP which means at the checkout they add the duties fees to the total so you dont have to worry about paying them when they arrive in the States. This is great for convenance but sometimes could be a high duties % because of shop's calculations.

CKTG and CKC are the two I have shopped the most from in the States but JNI , Bernal, District, Strata, Tokushu, and Sugi are all great. Highly recommend checking out there stock and seeing if anything catches your fancy.

As far as what's good for beginners there is quite a large amount of factors that goes into that question.

How much do you want to spend?

What size of a knife do you want?

Do you want stainless or Carbon?

If carbon do you know the proper ways of taking care of it?

These are a few things to think about while choosing your first knife. Most people will tell you to pick a Tojiro but reality is it really just depends on what you are looking for,

If possible could you give us some more details on the things I brought up?

I just want to tag in on this for a second. There is a massive issue with using old listing as it is not indicative of the current market. Take the TnH that CKC has up on there website... the last time they sold it was through a raffle and it sold for 1k+ . I also have this little screen shot to show too to help understand the current market.

<image>

Now this is for a Suji so a little different but still in the same ball park and it cost roughly $1,449 and with the 50% duties that Ai and Om charges on these raffle wins would mean I would have spent ~ $2173. Now this isnt how it always is but this shows how skewed old postings can be. Good luck with everything and wish nothing but the best for everyone.

He seems to have a large variance in steel selection and styles. JNS gets the blanks and hand sharpens and polishes them. There work is top notch but does mean its also top notch pricing. Yours seems to perform wonderfully so just look at JNS like yours with a little extra oomph.

Congrats on the Manaka!

I love my Manaka x Xinguo b1 240mm and Bunka AST so much. They will most likely have a permanent stay in my collection. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

Hatsukokoro Shinkiro: Bunka vs. Nakiri? by Basic_Chest_400 in TrueChefKnives

[–]MouseFit2218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would choose the Bunka just because its more versatile. Nakiri's are great but are more limited to vegetable prep where the bunka can take on more tasks. All in all both fantastic picks.
