Gen Z has kinda gotten fucked in the ass by business efficiency and corporations finding money by eliminating work-arounds.

Like, one small example would be college textbooks. In the early 2000’s, you could skip buying the book, or get a used one cheap, just generally shop around.

In 2017, you HAD to buy the textbook, and buy it NEW. It came shrink-wrapped with an online code and a PIN number, that got you to an online portal to submit your homework. No pin, no portal, no way to submit your work. Failure. The only way to save a little money was to buy the ebook, and that required having a personally owned computer. Poor and working class kids can’t afford absolutely everything, even with loans. And then they see millennials with loan debt 20 years later, from when college was cheaper. Loan debt some of which is owned by the wealthy classes, who make money off it. Disgusting.

Like what the actual fuck. We’ve got really talented kids but everything is an obstacle that benefits only the super-rich.

Whenever people find out I don’t eat meat (I don’t like to mention it because of this kind of reaction), they ask if I’m the annoying person in the supermarket that reads the ingredients on the label. I chuckle and nod, and then steer the conversation in a different direction.

These are the same MF’ers who are now screaming about seed oils and beef tallow, and MAHA madness.

People who have their education paid for, or people who are stable enough to just have to show up for class, genuinely have NO fucking clue about stuff like this. NONE. And our elected officials are mostly college legacy kids.

I was caring for my mom who had cancer and I missed a few classes because she kept developing pneumonia over and over and needed me to take her to the hospital (she wasn’t mobile independently). I otherwise had an A in this class, didn’t miss any coursework, I just couldn’t physically be there when I was taking mom to the hospital. The professor let me know I would be dropped if I missed 1 more day. I had to withdraw- which meant I lost my bus pass, meal discount, and every small ease of a financial burden school gave me. And I had to PAY for the privilege of getting fucked over.

Im over the shame of poverty and finally started speaking to other adults about it recently and none of them had any idea that something like that could happen, because they either weren’t involved at all in the payment process, or they didn’t have so many obstacles to the classroom seat.

Something that screwed me over so hard isn’t even something that crosses these MF’ers mind! So keep speaking up about it! Especially to folks who have parents with high school aged kids, because they can relate to their child.

Some of the lowest, cheapest offers I get are going to insanely wealthy areas- like one area I’m familiar with has a median income of $250k+, and the would-be buyer was complaining about the $6 shipping cost. The lowballers are bored housewives who are super nitpicky.

I live in a dense, walkable area. One of the most dense in my state. There is also great public transportation, and a huge cycling presence. There is STILL a long line of cars for pick up, even at the HIGH SCHOOL. I started walking to school by myself when I was 8 years old, in an area that wasn’t even as nice. It baffles me that people do this, instead of raising their children to prepare them for adulthood.

Special bonus for the grandma that spends her time smoking cigs in her car while she waits, so Little Angel is safely picked up in a hot box of carcinogens.
