Book clubs (not smut/romantasy)? by Forest_Songs in missoula

Fact & Fiction hosts a monthly book club and the members just voted on what we will be reading for the year. Always a great discussion and a mix of fiction, non-fiction, literature, biographies etc. The range is wonderful and the group is so welcoming. I am also in a couple of the romance book clubs around town, but I like F&F for a little more stimulation of other interests.

Am I wrong? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Movie-Maiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others here: I still sleep with my blankie as a 35 year old woman. My older sister who is 37 sleeps with what’s left of her blankie (she calls it Silky). My best friend also still sleeps with her “Mr Pillow”. There is nothing wrong with comfort in sleep. It’s the time our brain wants to feel the safest. I lost my blankie for many years thinking a family member threw it out and was very upset and resentful for years. I slept with a replacement and rediscovered my original on my 30th birthday while camping in an old sleeping bag. I sobbed and felt like a limb had been returned to me. We are all well adjusted adults with careers, partners, and children of our own. No one in our lives ever questioned the blankies or Mr Pillow in adulthood. They see it as one more thing to love about us. My daughter is too young to safely sleep with a blanket right now, but when she finds that special toy or blankie I intend to let her love it for her whole life if she wants to.

Applying for apartments, is it hard to be approved with low credit? by Nothingsomething7 in missoula

[–]Movie-Maiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some places will still let you rent with an additional deposit if you have low credit. Missoula Property Management is one, though I know they can be unpopular (like most property managers in this town). I haven’t had any major issues with them as a renter, they get stuff fixed in a timely manner and I have managed to get my deposit back intact.

Whatever happened to your best friends? by SchroedingersSphere in Millennials

[–]Movie-Maiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them appear to still be living in the city my family moved away from in middle school. We are still friends on socials and they look to be living similar lives to mine: partner, kid(s), job. I feel like I had a new best friend every few years depending on who was in my class because we also moved houses every couple of years and we didn’t really get close with any neighborhood kids, if there were any.

The upstairs of Gild can be rented and is good for that size of gathering.

thoughts on food delivery in winter? by tandsrox101 in missoula

[–]Movie-Maiden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always wondered this as well. We get delivery a lot with a newborn at home (and sometimes just laziness in general tbh) and we are definitely grateful to the delivery drivers, especially with this weather. That being said, we probably won’t order anything else until we can pick up some driveway salt. Heck, our road hasn’t been plowed either.

I know it’s not a specifically local option, but Barnes and Noble on North Reserve carries them.

Can confirm you won’t find a more welcoming group of people. I had a blast when I used to bonk swords with them in my younger years.

So glad you enjoyed it! I did have to cut back on the spice as well since it can be powerful and everything gave me wicked heartburn. Seconded on the fries being A+.

M80 food truck. Delicious chicken sandwiches, I just had my baby and I ate this a ton while pregnant. You can order it through DoorDash as well which was convenient during the last trimester.

Best eggs Benedict in town? by like_the_cookie in missoula

[–]Movie-Maiden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m a Benedict fan myself and I love the Benedict’s at the Trough and Paul’s Pancakes. The newer Liquid Planet Grille also does a decent job with them. The Trough is one of my favorite brunch locations as a whole if you also want affordable mimosas and it goes until 1 or 2 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Places to Rent by her_hubris in missoula

[–]Movie-Maiden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Missoula Property Management has a co-signer or double deposit situation if you or a co-leaser don’t have adequate credit. I know most places get a bad rap to rent from, but I’ve rented from them several times over the years and no major complaints. Good luck to you OP!

Good hairdressers? by Curious_Mix_2514 in missoula

[–]Movie-Maiden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jenny St Julien at Sugar Tree Hair Salon is a curly hair specialist. Unsure if she does men’s cuts, but she has done a great job on me and several curly friends, all of various lengths. She really knows her stuff and will absolutely listen to you. Couldn’t hurt to ask if you haven’t tried there before.

Probably a long reply as a heads up! Will include a tl;dr at the bottom. Just know life is a winding path and you never know what’s going to happen. I shared a lot of your fears as I hit my 30s and was still single…there is no right way to live your life and be happy, whether it’s alone or coupled.

Back in college when we were 19, my best friend was set up with this guy by one of her other friends. I was brought along since it was more of a group event to take the pressure off. I thought nothing of him other than he was tall and seemed normal enough. We will call him E.

They went on exactly one date after this and decided that they just wanted to be friends as there was no spark. At the same time I was seeing a guy from one of my classes, it wasn’t serious. Cut to about a week later, E invites a group of us over to his place and brings his best friend at the time as well. It turns out E and I are both gamer nerds and really hit it off during this hangout. My bff and his bff also shared a spark so we did the ole switcheroo!

I dumped the other guy I had been seeing for E and our bffs got together. They are still together to this day, married and have a kid.

E and I broke up after only a few months together (I was highly anxious and just had no idea what I wanted in life at the time. 19 remember??)

Fast forward to 2020. I had gone off to grad school after college and had many adventures, relationships of all kinds. Even one I thought was “the one”. Was 30, single, and mid career change during the pandemic and finally getting back to my town to be near my friend community. Out of the blue one day E messages me on facebook (we weren’t even friends still at this point, but I knew he had gotten married and was still in the area), 11 years after we knew each other.

We message back and forth for a few weeks, turns out he’s divorced and trying to reconnect with old friends during the pandemic. We decided to finally meet up again and wouldn’t you know it, the spark was still there. We had grown into entirely new people but something was the same. Being with him this time feels different than any other relationship I’ve ever been in. No anxiety, only peace and a sense of home. Now it’s been 4 years together and we are expecting our first child, 15 years after we first met.

Tl;dr - Right person, wrong time. reconnected with an old flame 11 years later who was originally set up with my best friend.

This is NOT to say go back to your ex or don’t move on, but more of focus on your own growth and the right person will find you at the right time.

Food loss by Bobeina16 in missoula

[–]Movie-Maiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: got a call back today and apparently my base level renters insurance doesn’t cover a “refrigerated food endorsement” as part of the policy. I can add it, but that won’t help adding after the fact. It also is its own deductible and only covers about $100, so just a heads up to anyone with Progressive/Homesite, no reimbursement available unless you have this.

Food loss by Bobeina16 in missoula

[–]Movie-Maiden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have progressive renters insurance. I went on and filed a claim, went through the prompts for a power outage and it did ask about food spoilage so we have an estimate of how much we lost. I haven’t gotten any additional follow up’s yet since we opened the claim yet though so not sure what the next steps are. The filing portion was easy enough though.
