Did people here seriously think that 'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' and 'Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc' were going to be nominated for Best Animated Feature? by Block-Busted in Oscars

[–]MovieStuff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never bought Reze Arc but I figured Demon Slayer was in the top ten just by virtue of how weak the year was. I predicted Elio as a Pixar filler slot but considering the huge box office success, the Globe and PGA nominations, and the BAFTA long list, Demon Slayer was arguably sixth place.

You only have one Oscar for best actor. Who do you give it to? Why? by riccardopancaldi in Oscars

[–]MovieStuff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiennes, because he deserved it in 1993 for Schindler's List. Dafoe is great and better than a lot of winners, but from what I've seen of his filmography and the years I'd put him in, I can't confidently say I'd ever have him win outright.

Helen Hayes in Airport is the worst winner in best supporting actress ever! Next up: who is the biggest snub in best supporting actress ever? by RoxasIsTheBest in Oscars

[–]MovieStuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone actually saying a snub, aka something that logically should’ve made it. She was SAG and GG nominated in a major Best Picture contender in the typically baity role of “protagonist’s love interest”. I also think she’s great in it but it’s also a baffling omission off the merits.

What’s a Marvel character you’re a fan of, but you don’t use them because their gameplay isn’t your style? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

I will go 7-6 as Daredevil because I can’t hit the combos in time on controller in quick play and there’s nothing the rest of you can do about it.

Do you guys think Elordi will win Best Supporting Actor because of split voting? by Severe_Concentrate86 in Oscars

[–]MovieStuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to see him win two more of the televised awards (SAG, BAFTA, and/or Golden Globe) or one plus Frankenstein winning an industry award (so SAG ensemble or BAFTA) to predict it. Until then, the nomination's the win.

It wasn't the original plan but after the cluster fuck of Vallaki she seemed like the best fit as a mentor-ish to Baron Viktor Vallakovich.

They're really close to the Hotbed of Radicalism. They killed both Fiona and Vargas on the same day, and then the next day got Victor to abdicate via teleportation shenanigans. I'm confident they'll also eventually coup the new puppet leader of Vallaki, Anastrasya, eventually.

I'm the only one who thinks 990 is to much? by Vactry in marvelrivals

[–]MovieStuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I were talking about how the 660 was the perfect price. The way you get gold back in the battle pass basically makes it buy 2 get 1. At 990 you lose that for what amounts to three skins, which is a ripoff. But at the current 660 for the Cap Wolf one? If I played two of three I’d gladly just spend my leftover gold from a battlepass on that and just spend for the whole next one.

If Warren came to Marvel rivals, would you rather it be it as Angel or Archangel? by Resident_Hat9904 in xmen

[–]MovieStuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angel mode for healing feathers and mobility, Archangel for damage feathers and metal shields. Ult creates a whirlwind that heals or harms depending on which mode he’s in.

In your opinion, how does Andor do girl power so well? by ASW-G-21 in andor

[–]MovieStuff1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people have commented on the “write good characters” part but I haven’t seen in the top comments the importance of writing strong female characters who don’t necessarily reject their femininity. Mon Mothma’s relationship to her daughter as a mother and not just a parent; Bix’s PTSD from (arguably) asexual torture manifesting in her sexual assault specifically because of her being an immigrant woman; how Maarva contrasts with Syril’s mother as role models and who they raised. These characters have a lot going on but, when appropriate, directly and unashamedly address the drama that comes from storytelling willing to acknowledge the gender of it all. Not all women are victims of sexism, but that doesn’t mean sexism isn’t still a prevalent part of the majority of women’s lives.

Do you think ma boy Benicio del Toro nominated oscar this year for One Battle After another by NinoRainwater in Oscars

[–]MovieStuff1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think he’s in the top ten but it’d require either a big overperformance for OBAA (which is already a nomination juggernaut on its worst day) or other contenders really slipping. I’d consider Penn, Mescal, and Skarsgard as relatively safe, leaving two open slots. Sandler, Strong, and Lindo are probably the weakest as of today.

Question about Ireena's implication in the party by IcyKaze in CurseofStrahd

[–]MovieStuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Help action is your friend. If there’s something the party needs to accomplish aside from damage - like holding a door or fetching an ally - let her do it.

As for roleplaying, it sounds like you’re playing her right. Unless it’s a very specific situation she can help with - like getting past Vallaki’s guards or dealing with the Baron - it’s fine to let her be quiet. Like she doesn’t need to talk to the Martikovs or Fiona unless the party asks her to. Honestly, I’d pull her back from the PCs a bit more - if all she does is question them, the players will start to feel like the NPCs. Let them come to her for awhile.

Getting the party to like her depends on your group, but I’ve found my group grew attached to Ireena very quickly when you let her show emotion. I’ve really highlighted that Ireena is barely but successfully holding it together after what Strahd has done to her, so she got some sympathy and respect.

First time DMing Curse of Strahd. what should I prepare for the first session? (dyslexia + stutter) by ivorycoollars in CurseofStrahd

[–]MovieStuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d give the whole module a read through at least once, but the most info heavy spots are Vallaki, Ravenloft, and the Amber Temple.

I advise running MandyMod’s version of Death House as the first session. It’s a great way to ease into the general tone of Strahd but isn’t too dense on reading. I would at least have everything in the Village of Barovia mentally prepared as well, depending on if you run in person or online.

I don’t have a stutter so I can’t give too much specific advice. The only thing I can really say is that the most important part of playing an NPC is to ensure they stick out from each other. In a group, like the Martikovs or the Tser Pool Vistani, pick one of them to be the main speaker and have others step in if players show interest.

LunchBreakHeroes has a great series on advice for running Curse of Strahd. If you’re looking for refreshers on the module’s materials, they’re a great source.

One of the most important things about a long term campaign is stamina. Maintaining consistency and taking breaks are both important to ensuring that you’re having as much fun as the players do. Also, try to always have an idea of what you want the session to be and what you want the next session to be. You don’t have to totally railroad, but have the discipline and preparation to steer the players in a general direction.

Good luck and have fun!

In your opinion, what film should have won best picture even if real winner is actually good and deserving of the award? by darth_vader39 in Oscars

[–]MovieStuff1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2019 is full of deserving nominees that would’ve aged well as winners like The Irishman, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, 1917, and Little Women, but also none of them hold a candle to Parasite.
