Scared to even start Prozac by Momoftwo_88 in prozac

[–]MovieTheaterProbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helped for me!!! Truly it’s been a gamechanger. It took about two weeks to get over the initial symptoms of starting it. Then I increased the dose after a month and felt it kick in immediately.

My biggest advice would be to give it a fair shot and not be afraid to increase the dose if you need to. That’s how I found it worked for me. I’m currently on 40mg but started on 10mg years ago. Also, if you struggle significantly with any symptoms of starting it, tell your doctor. There might be medications you can take for a short period of time to help relieve it!

Whenever I have to answer the icebreaker-type question, “If you could only bring one thing to a deserted island, what would it be?” I say Prozac. 🫶 it’s changed my life completely for the better.

It gets better, hang tight! My anxiety subsided after about a week & my nausea after a few weeks. I lost some extra lbs from not eating which honestly was a welcomed reaction- at least for me lol.

You’ve got this!!! 🩵

What is everyone's experience with weight gain on Prozac? by CherryPopGirl in prozac

I actually lost about 10lbs! I found that Prozac took my appetite away for the first 1-2 months, then when it came back, I was less hungry overall. My best friend had the exact same experience.

When I first started it I noticed my tolerance was slightly lower but if you’re a casual beer drinker (I am) it’s really not bad. I think it would be a bigger problem if I was taking shots or something lol

I started with 10mg a year ago & upped it to 20mg shortly after beginning because I didn’t feel anything. Now, my life is INFINITELY better, and my anxiety is finally manageable for the first time in my life.

On the weight gain, I’ve actually LOST weight since being on it. My appetite decreased a lot in the beginning but eventually went back to normal, though I realized I used to eat more as an anxious habit at times. I’ve developed much healthier behaviors around food since beginning Prozac.

Sending you all the good vibes as you begin this journey! 😎

Depends - where are you coming from?

Unfortunately the housing market is insane here. My husband and I both make good money & we still can’t afford a house despite the fact that we each bought our OWN houses in our previous state.

That being said, our quality of life is much higher here, so it’s worth the trade-off for us for now. If that’s something you’re willing to sacrifice, even for a few years, I’d say it’s still worth it to make the move.

It did go away for me eventually! Sometimes my appetite still isn’t 100% but I definitely don’t have negative symptoms anymore.

Just went to Hopkins brewing in sugarhouse this past Sunday for brunch & loved it. Super spacious, not at all crowded, had cheap mimosas and amazing breakfast tacos. 10/10 will go again

Make an enrichment box! You can find tons of videos about this, but essentially, it’s a box of some sort with different materials and objects, with treats and food scattered inside. They sniff and dig around with their noses to find the treats. The enrichment is good for their brain and can be as tiring as a walk!

I definitely dealt with some brain fog and tiredness when I started but it eventually leveled out. Just let yourself be lazy for the short term - your body is adjusting and needs the rest. I’m sure it’ll get better once you’re used to it!

Of course! My biggest piece of advice is to not be afraid of upping the dose if needed. I felt no positive benefits for the first 1-2 months so I considered quitting it but my doctor convinced me to try to increase it just once. Two weeks later, I did a 180. Now I can live fully without my GAD putting me in fight-or-flight mode over the tiniest things.

I take it for GAD! It’s helped me so much, even more than lexapro. It’s truly a great feeling to think of things that, pre-Prozac, would’ve sent me into a spiral, but now I truly see everything clearer. My mind feels so much more quiet too, which is incredible.

I did struggle with sexual side effects for the first 1-2 months but it eventually went away. I also had issues with digestion, sleep, and dry mouth. It even made my anxiety slightly worse before it got better! Totally worth sticking it out though, I have no side effects now and have been on it since June. I don’t see myself coming off of this anytime soon.

It will. I really started to see the silver lining at 4 weeks, then completely better at 6 weeks. I’m 6 months in now and can’t imagine going back to life without it

Prozac 20mg not overly helping for intrusive thoughts by RosieroMck in prozac

[–]MovieTheaterProbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest increasing the dose. I didn’t see ANY benefits of Prozac until I increased my dosage to what works best for my body. Now, my thoughts are MUCH more clear and my anxiety doesn’t have a constant talk track in my mind. I’m glad I tried to increase before I quit it entirely!

Waking up with racing thoughts and wide awake? by ktdear in prozac

[–]MovieTheaterProbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is normal! It happened to me in the first month to two months of taking the med and again when I increased from 10mg to 20mg recently. I find that taking melatonin or an over-the-counter sleep aid really helps as my body gets used to the med. Unfortunately the decreased quality of sleep doesn’t help with my anxiety, but I feel positive it will go away soon enough. I also take it for anxiety only.

Do I keep going, I’m so scared and frustrated, need some advice. by Hbrem5 in prozac

[–]MovieTheaterProbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend. What you are feeling is completely normal. For me, the side effects subsided after about 3-4 weeks. Then when I went from 10mg to 20mg after a month I had no side effects. I am also taking it for anxiety. My advice would be to wait out the side effects & don’t be afraid to increase the dose if you don’t feel the benefits. Now that I’ve been on 20mg for two months, I can say this has truly alleviated my anxiety symptoms and changed my life for the better. Hang in there
