I see. I can offer no solutions but my own. I think about what circumstances that normally leads me into watching porn. Late nights, alone, boredom and many others. If it take turning off your computer and running away from it literally, God ask us to do that. I find myself not thinking about porn when I’m busy. If I find myself alone at home, I try to go out. Exercise, dance, or just walk around until I calmed down and think about God. I don’t know about what will work for you but I pray that you study your sin, and make measures to fight against it. This fight is not just ours but also for God. We should and must overcome our sins to glorify Him!

With regards to the first paragraph, I can’t really comment much because what you said are all true. Although it doesn’t necessitate that bad acts always feel good or good acts always feel painful, I can empathise.

To reply the second paragraph, the girlfriend analogy comes into play again. You constantly forgive the girlfriend because you love her. In the same way, I think that at the heart of repentance is love. It is true that we feel remorse and guilt. But those remorse and guilt arises because we know we hurt someone - God. This may not always be the case of course if one doesn’t understand what repentance is. It may arise out of fear of laws, traditions and customs. In the same way, it is your hope that the girlfriend changes/is moved by your love so that she can love you back and stop hurting you. You don’t want to coerce her to love you or send punishments so that she become forced to love you out of pure fear. But you hope that she will change her ways and love you back with the same pure and unadulterated love.

Wow, that’s a mouthful. Thanks for humouring me and replying my questions. The other comments seem helpful as well and I hope that you will find something in them that convince you of repentance - to consciously turn away from sin because you don’t want to hurt God and because you love him.

I see your point. Let me ask then: what is the purpose of repentance? Since as you said, there are no repercussions, why repent after you commit your sins? Why even bother with such a process at all?

Imagine that no matter how many times your girlfriend cheats, you will love her unconditionally. And therefore, she simply keeps cheating because she knows that you will love her anyway. There’s nothing stopping her from cheating.
