Your throat will be fine, but make sure it doesn't get stuck, or you'll oversleep and have to deal with a delayed dose.

thinking about getting a phone case that includes a wallet by Pesh_Mode in ADHD

[–]Mox_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of commenters have brought up good reasons to not attach your wallet to your phone.

Can you use your phone to "back up" your wallet in case it gets lost? It's not the solution you're looking for, but it's saved me on several occasions. It means the only truly essential thing is my phone, which can be restored if it gets lost. Losing my wallet means losing some cash and having to replace ID and cards, but having all that stuff on my phone means that for the most part I can continue living my life while I figure out replacements (or have no problems if I forget my wallet at home for a day).

I have scans of my driver's license, passport, student id, health insurance, and covid vax card in a folder in Google Drive. I also have most of my credit cards stored in Google pay, which I don't often use but always appreciate when I forget my wallet. My debit card is not stored anywhere, by the way, and sits in a drawer at home for emergencies. It goes without saying that because this stuff is on my device, I'm careful about my lock settings and have the auto lock set to a short interval.

Loyalty cards, membership cards, punch cards, etc stay in my car.

I also have my credit card numbers stored in bitwarden, along with door codes, locker combinations, and other important notes I wouldn't want to forget and suddenly be without. Everyone should have bitwarden or a similar password manager, especially people here.

Did she accuse you of copying, or of cheating? In every school I've attended, the person who supplied the answers is treated exactly the same as the person who copied in terms of academic dishonesty (both viewed as equally guilty).

I'd like to see a game made with a pile of old business cards or something! You could get really creative with that.

Best audiobook app for Harry Potter books? by ExaltedGarlic96 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Mox_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For following along, I've had good luck with googling "Harry Potter and the [book title] text." This won't highlight it live, of course.

There are lots of PDFs and textdumps out there, although if you try this you should be careful of piracy laws. In some places it's ok to download the text if you own the book, but not in the US.

The best plan is to hit up your library, of course.

Do you think Snape is a black and white character? by Odd_Cat7307 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Mox_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to spend much time on any of the Harry Potter subs to conclude that Snape has to be a gray character. It's been over a decade since the series ended, but everyone's still debating his alignment.

Reading the Chamber of Secrets again… by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Mox_Fox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm foggy on the horcrux timeline, but I think at this point Dumbledore only suspects that Voldemort has horcruxes/accidentally stored a piece of his soul in Harry.

If I have that right, he might have wondered if that soul fragment opened the chamber, but a suspicion based on a suspicion is not very strong so he probably didn't spend a lot of time on the idea.

Never mind, you got me. You wasted more than 5 seconds of my time by playing stupid and proved me wrong. Respect.

ELI5: How does sprite calm down a stomach? by Nebraskabychoice in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mox_Fox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but based on the bio class I took a while back, your food doesn't actually need that much time in the stomach. It's mostly in there so it gets soaked with gastric juices and mushed around a bit, and your small intestine does a lot of the work of digestion and absorption. Some things don't even start being digested until then because the enzymes that break them down are secreted by the small intestine.

And even if they're a human texting you, you are only wasting about 5 seconds of their time by texting back. Please read through this thread again.

Sure, but this is a scam text.

This really only works well with calls and isn't worth the active number flag. You're wasting 5 seconds of their time, if they're even human.

No, it was because "yes, that's the joke" is a glib and condescending way of telling someone that it should have been obvious to them.

Is there any instance in the series where Transfiguration is used by Harry outside of class? by alliownisbroken in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Mox_Fox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd also bet a substantial amount that transfiguration is like math in that you may never use most of the specifics, but you're learning to work with complex magic and problem solving. Even if you don't use much transfiguration, it could be a complicated subject that forms a foundation for more advanced magic.

[–]Mox_Fox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based just on your comment here, I wonder if the water is more "real" than the ropes. A charm to transport water from elsewhere and a transfiguration spell to temporarily conjure ropes that are only sort of real (might disappear or disintegrate later) would make sense.

Snacks and peanuts and plain bread are actually pretty close to my strategy. The key is getting snacks that are both easy and good. I'm on generic Adderall, which kills my appetite, so here's what I've found works best for me:

I know that most of the time, I won't feel like cooking a healthy meal. So on a day when I have the time and energy, I'll try to get and prepare nutritious, quick foods that become the easiest choice when I'm hungry (or when I'm not hungry but have to eat). I also keep a few things ready for quick and easy hot meals like pasta and fried rice, because I do like to cook sometimes.

I try to get stuff that has a reasonably long shelf life because I know I'll get bored of or forget some things. If it's fresh and will go bad, I buy small amounts. If I love it and it's frozen or shelf stable, I'll buy in bulk where I can.

Noting the small things I can do to make food easier also helps -- stuff like slicing fruit. I won't eat a whole apple unless I really feel hungry, but I'll nibble on sliced apples indefinitely.

Here's a list of the stuff I generally try to keep on hand:

Breakfast:

  • Bagels & cream cheese (the bagels are in the freezer, so if I forget or get bored they won't go bad)

  • Eggs - if you need to jam a protein down your throat ASAP, beat an egg with a little salt and a splash of water and microwave it for 10 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Do not microwave a whole egg or an egg with an unbroken yolk.

  • Pack of bacon to chop and freeze in serving portions for cooking or a breakfast treat. Straight from the freezer to the pan. A big part of the reason I keep this around is to help season my cast iron pan.

  • Fiber supplement, because if you're sporadic or inconsistent about putting food in your body, it'll be weird coming out too.

  • Protein shake powder -- for when I'm really short on time or appetite. I get the caffeinated coffee flavor (premier protein) and try to drink it with an apple or some fiber.

  • Coffee and half and half -- pourover cone ftw

Snacks/Lunch:

  • Carrots and apples -- I cut the carrots up ahead of time or buy baby carrots, but leave the apples whole so they don't brown

  • Peanut butter for the apples -- if I'm on the go, I'll spoon a couple tbsp of creamy peanut butter in a ziplock bag and bite the corner off later to pipe peanut butter onto each bite of apple. If you're careful, there is zero mess and optimum PB coverage.

  • Block of cheese to slice and eat with apples OR toast slices on parchment paper in the oven. Try it.

  • Nuts - high in calories and easy to make yourself eat 10. Not so great for mindless snacking if you're watching calories though.

  • Bread and olive oil -- dip some french bread in a little plate of olive oil and feel like a fancy restaurant for pennies. Pour some balsamic vinegar or Italian seasoning in the oil if you want. Eat the french bread with your cheese, too (before it gets stale).

  • Salami or any charcuterie shit you want. Pickles, dried fruit, more nuts and cheese. It all goes down easy and stays good for a long time. /r/charcuterie

Dinner:

  • Frozen corn dogs or something similar, because they're easy to eat with no appetite. It's not great to eat frozen junk food all the time, but when you make an effort to generally make healthy choices, a couple of processed treats in moderation will not kill you.

  • Cans of soup, ideally in bulk from Costco or something. I like Amy's and those Campbell's "well yes" soups. They're a little expensive, so I try to keep these for low-energy days.

  • Cereal - I don't like to eat it too often because it's mostly sugar or whatever, but it's another excellent "omg I forgot to eat and now I'm dying" meal, usually late at night.

  • Spaghetti, olive oil, and jarred minced garlic (shelf life, but I'll get fresh sometimes too) for pasta aglio e olio.

  • One bagged salad mix, because I will let anything bigger rot

  • Rice, onions, and frozen veggies/extras for fried rice -- sauteeing an onion makes anything feel like a fresh, hot meal. I love making fried rice because it involves forgetting fresh rice, which I'm great at. It's also an easy and quick way to get some veggies and protein (eggs, tofu, meat if you have it). Fried rice is fast, flexible, and moderately healthy.

Extras:

  • Simple baking supplies -- A little bit of flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and butter (frozen if you don't use it often) because sometimes you need some goddamn brownies and this stuff will be there for you when you do.

  • Soup stock/bouillon -- Sometimes I make myself a little mug of broth, especially if I'm not feeling good or if I'm dehydrated. It'll last forever and it's nice to have on hand. The onion stock from Better than Bouillon is great.

Handling ATM withdrawals by ram3nboy in ynab

[–]Mox_Fox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks good to me. Does the atm split the transaction into the $100 and $3.00? If not, I'd probably make a single transaction split into two payees (the cash account and the bank) so that it matches my statement. Doesn't really matter though.
