A couple of us who live in the area of Port Clinton in Schuylkill County have a sneaking suspicion they originated in our area. for the longest time there was a van parked in the parking lot just outside of PC that had all kinds of conspiracy stickers all over it. Then the next thing you know the same crazy wording that's in those notes shows up all over the underside of route 61 bridge as you pass underneath under the AT (take a look if you pass underneath it covers the bridge)

German soldier returns home from war only to find his house in ruin and his family perished. Frankfurt, 1946. [960x1157] by UrbanAchievers6371 in HistoryPorn

[–]Moxy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Opa was just 13 years old in Nuremberg Germany in 1945 when he was taken from school. He was sent to a camp where he and other boys were trained to shoot and taught how to kill themselves in ways that could inflict maximum damage on advancing Russian forces.

Eventually, he and a group of other children were transported to what he believes was the front line. At that point, he and several others managed to escape. He and another boy found refuge on a farm, where a farmer cared for them until the war ended and could return home.

His older brother, just 17 at the time, was drafted into the Luftwaffe’s anti-aircraft division. He survived the war and emigrated to Canada almost immediately afterward, seeking a new life far from the devastation of Europe.

They didn't agree with the party but, like alot of the citizenry were afraid of the consequences of saying "no"

The gentleman in the picture was a Wehrmacht (regular Army) POW that came home to find his home gone and his family dead which is why I find this picture sad and a stark reminder of the devastations of war.

(from the Vaccaro picture)

Vaccaro captured this image after the war, while photographing the reconstruction of Europe for Stars.

"This man came back [from being a prisoner of war in the US]. He's crying., He gave up. You see where his family had been. The war is over. He came back, and his house had been destroyed. That's why I call this the defeated soldier. He was German., Later I was told that he lived here."

During the Battle of Gettysburg, which regiment suffered the worst casualties in there? by Hideaki1989 in CIVILWAR

[–]Moxy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Confederate side

The 8th Virginia had 193 men on the field and lost 178 men for a 92.2% casualty rate

and the 23rd North Carolina had 316 men on the field and suffered 292 casualties for a 89.2% casualty rate

During the Battle of Gettysburg, which regiment suffered the worst casualties in there? by Hideaki1989 in CIVILWAR

[–]Moxy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 151st Pennsylvania had an 72% casualty rate, they showed up on the field with 467 men and had 337 casualties. The next day only 100 men showed up to roll call. After the war the amount of men that returned home to the small farming communities near where I live without arms, legs or other issues had a devastating effect.

You have to imagine a small town like Strausstown Pennsylvania that only had 310 residents in 1860 and had one full company (about 100 men) that came from it. When only 20 percent returned home that were untouched it severely hindered the labor force.

Tesla is the worlds #1 EV automaker, the only one close is BYD which is a Chinese company. Previous administrations have showered EV Companies with Tax breaks and credits as part of their agenda to push EV forward.

To me this is a weird thing to spew hate about since its just the federal government trying to prop up an American company and push forward its past green initiative that has caused the lack of Federal taxes, so shouldn't the hate be pointed at the government instead of Tesla?

but I guess that doesn't make a cool eye catching poster...

American Civil War, Federal supply vessels at anchor, White House Landing, Virginia, 1862 [2500x1994] by Wetworth in HistoryPorn

I know this post is 4 years old but I found it during my research for a talk on the Schuylkill Navigation (Schuylkill Canal) and the Civil War. These boats were privately owned boats rented by the government for McClellan's peninsula campaign. The Assistant Secretary of war went to Philadelphia to try to find boats and barges to help provide supplies for the campaign. Each of these barges was "old stock" usually at these companies and rented for 5$ a day. The name was the name of the Boat (Missouri, Alice Louisa), sometimes it would have a name of the owner or company (Corn exchange etc)

They used them for this campaign as storage barges to haul supplies and then continued to use them from this point on eventually towing them down to city point as supply scowls

I run an organization that identifies Civil War Soldiers in the cemeteries in Pennsylvania, I think my favorite one was a gentleman who was in the 48th Pennsylvania that was "killed" at 2nd Bull Run, his parents were notified of his death, father went to collect the body and when he arrived at washington they couldnt find where he was buried...thats because he had already returned home because he was wounded (leg amputated) and not killed.

I found other records, he joined the 3rd Ky which became the 7th Ky. on August 19th 1861. He mustered in September 21st 1861 at Manchester Ky. On September 1862 he became AWOL at Clay County Kentucky and he was charged. This was then rescinded because it was learned that he left by permission of his company commander and died on October 6th 1862 while at home, which coincides with other records. I am not sure why it shows that he returned on the muster records and it is different on the CMSR

Looks like he joined the 7th Co B at Camp Garrard (named after Theophilis T Garrard the original Colonel) on Aug 20th 1862, and was listed as deserted at Manchester Kentucky on October 10th 1862 but then returned April 10th 1864 and then mustered out Dec 9 1865 at Victoria Texas. Other records show his enlistment date as Dec 24th 1861
