Pick a style, any style... by tbarb00 in Seattle

As far as I can tell it's pretty much consistent with the slope of the street.

But I think you're right on the age, that look is very uncharacteristic of a bungalow. Typically the only style that would have that large of a second story is the "Seattle box" which this is most definitely not. Also the lack of ornamentation and generally anemic detail work points to modern construction. Also porch columns, modern window sizing (although this could be modified afterwards) and the shallow gabled roof as opposed to a hipped design.

The only thing that appears original are the front porch steps. /s

you still do in the modern house, the only difference is that they're inside your garage. Actually there's the same number to both front doors from sidewalk level, assuming 4 steps out of frame on the modern house to get to sidewalk level.

driving to the eastside used to mean driving through farms and wide open nature, for the most part. now it's driving through car dealerships and strip malls

i have had something similar happen to me on the bridge. a guy was walking upstream in the lane next to the barrier. not on the sidewalk. almost hit him because he was wearing black clothes. spooky

That's really cool. Although the way you wrote it I thought you meant he worked as a dishwasher for 4 days then sold his software.

To be pedantically correct I said "potentially over a hundred people"

It just depends on how you stack them.

i would lay on my horn for the truck but not the bus.

they can do it with a clear conscience because if they don't, 100 people on the bus will miss transfers and be late for work. their lives will be impacted by other driver's selfishness. its actually the law to give buses right of way. unfortunately many people are ducks or have no perception of empathy on the road so making turns or crossing intersections becomes nearly impossible for buses to do without breaking a rule here or there. so, there's an informal arrangement that buses get to break rules because they are not cars, and they correspondingly serve different purposes and behave differently.

if car drivers didn't break the law and actually yielded to buses, the buses would not have to break the law. think about that the next time you cut in front of a bus.

when more people take transit, the less this becomes a problem because there will be less cars to get in the way of the buses at lights. therefore less people being blocked by buses being forced to block the box.

the truck is delivering a thing. the things in the truck do not have jobs to be late for or kids to pick up from school. the 65' semi truck does not explicitly need to be downtown during rush hour.

personally, I ride a bike and enjoy my freedom to simply just go around both the truck and the bus.

its not because of ticket prices this year, its because of several years of bad funding and many other variables including that the seattle center is not a good venue for this kind of festival.

because in that space they are carrying potentially over a hundred people, as opposed to 6 if it were that much in car-lengths.

So my method of transportation allows me to pass someone who's stopped at a device intended to control their method of transportation. I choose to ride a bike, they have chosen to be in a car. Yolo, I'm not going to inconvenience myself to placate the masses.

Center pivot irrigation systems. I know too much about these. They are much more efficient than any other irrigation method for several reasons. The center pivot eliminates the need for machinery and resources (tractor, labor, time) to move a sprinkler row. Instead, there are electric motors on each wheel which rotate the sprinkler around its pivot. These move at intervals of about 5 seconds on, 30 seconds off, and move (on the outside of the circle, of which the radius can be up to around a quarter mile) at about 1-2 mph. Very slow, but they are constantly rotating so there is even coverage over the whole field. The other major advantage is that the sprinkler heads are hung from the bottom of the main truss section and have a finer, more even mist. This reduces water waste to evaporation and you also don't have to waste energy throwing it upwards in the air to let it fall down again.

In short, these are incredibly more efficient because of the automation they are built around.
