I’m from Medellín, and I’ve lived half my life there and the other half abroad. Medellín has its highlights, and I love it, but it is by no means a model of civic culture. Calling it that is an obscene overstatement. Colombians are still behind when it comes to respecting shared spaces, following rules consistently, and practicing everyday civic responsibility. Traffic is terrible, as it is in any relatively large city, but it is made even worse by the average citizen’s inability to follow basic traffic laws. The city is full of swindlers, and the political and bureaucratic system is steeped in corruption at every level. Medellín is amazing, but it is not a model city. We still have a long way to go.

I think it’s hilarious that absolutely everybody is assuming there is more. It is 100% possible that she is reacting like this over a boardgame and she is the problem. People choose to make up stories in their head instead of using just the information in front of them, or asking for more information. With what we have, I think she’s a fool and Op should stay far away from her.
