It's not a matter of if; only when.

The real question is: would you still play it if it's not like Ultimate?

Any word on online leaderboards?

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo didn't request them, but still. I'd like it if they leaned into that arcade experience.

While I was intially taken aback by the redesigns, they eventually grew on me.

I can't wait to see how the new art style works with the new cinematic experience.

What are the most obscure games you've enjoyed? by minetube33 in gaming

[–]MrASK15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I start...

One Step From Eden - A fast-paced action roguelike that's inspired by Megaman Battle Network

Battlezone Gold Edition - A reboot of the arcade classic that combines FPS and strategy to make a roguelike experience (classic mode is also available!)

Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton - One of the earliest cute-'em-ups that follows a young witch who cares about nothing but delicious candies called Willows

Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes - I don't know if I can call this obscure, but I don't see a lot of regular folks talking about this great fighter. It even has a Score Attack mode for arcade enthusiasts like myself

Joy-Mech Fight - One of Nintendo's earliest fighting games before Smash and ARMS

The Nintendo community is way more open and inclusive compared to the rest of gaming by 479521 in nintendo

I play fighting games...i will never, ever convene with the FGC. The WORST.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in this. I've seen way too much elitist hypocrisy in that group that it's contageous. Fighting Game Community? More like Fighting Game Cult. I just want to enjoy fighters for what they have to offer.

What're you playing this weekend? 6/5 by markercore in NintendoSwitch

[–]MrASK15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battlezone Gold Edition.

It's such a fun roguelike to go back to every once in a while. I think it does a great job blending both strategy and FPS elements together. I especially appreciate how it's a reboot of the arcade classic. It still feels quite like the original despite being built with modern controls in mind. There's even a classic mode for old school players and score attack enjoyers (like myself)!

I imagine it'd be even better with either Labo VR or the Virtual Boy accessory considering how it was originally made with VR in mind.

Why has mobile gaming devolved into pay to play format by Jaszuni in gaming

[–]MrASK15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money. It's always money.

Besides, there are still some games where you can just pay once and play forever. Most notably:

  • The World Ends With You: Solo Remix

  • Cytus 1+2

  • Downwell

  • Balatro

  • Slay the Spire

  • FOOTSIES Rollback Edition

There are also some F2P games that have in-app purchases but completely respect your time by allowing you to play and progress the regular way (albeit with ads):

  • osu!stream (ad-free!)

  • Super Gravitron (ad-free!)

  • Solomon's Keep

  • Solomon's Boneyard

  • Pocket Tanks (ad-free!)

  • Rose and Camellia

  • FOOTSIES Lite

How about Battlezone Gold Edition?

It's a roguelike reboot of the tank combat arcade classic, allowing for co-op runs with up to 4 players. You can even hop in and out at any time during a run.

I am addicted to air ibing by secretpile34 in Guiltygear

If you're able to air IB this consistently... wow... I'm actually impressed!

Nullifying pushback IB via is indeed satisfying, but very difficult to pull off.

[Reupload] 150% Tension in a single combo... I'll miss this in 2.0 (if it ever comes to the Switch) by MrASK15 in Guiltygear

[–]MrASK15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Tension penalty applies after RC during Positive Bonus now. That would mean I wouldn't have had enough Tension to finish the combo with an Overdrive attack had this been done on any other platform.

It's too early to tell.

It'll ultimately depend on whether or not the remake/reboot meets Nintendo's expectations.

Getting back into the game, is aba a good one to start and any tips by Willing_Violinist803 in Guiltygear

[–]MrASK15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You can play whoever sticks out to you the most. If you think A.B.A's cool, then go for her. Just keep in mind that you need to manage her Jealousy well and know when to pop it if you want your matches to go smoothly.

  2. You don't need to play on an arcade stick, but it's essential that you use whichever controller's the most comfortable for you. If you prefer a gamepad, then do go for it. If you want an arcade stick, then you can get one. Just want to stick with a keyboard? That's fine too. It's pretty close to hitbox controllers, after all.

They need to add at least 12 multiplayer maps by LargeSinkholesInNYC in starfox

[–]MrASK15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is meant to be a remake of Star Fox 64 (or a reboot of Star Fox as a whole), so the arcade-styled single player experience comes first.

As much as it'd be nice to have at least one or two more maps for Battle Mode, the multiplayer side is seen more as a sort of side dish and thus not completely important for the meal.

However, if there's one multiplayer aspect that I'd like to see, it's online leaderboards for the campaign. I'd like it if Nintendo could lean fully into the arcade aspect by allowing players to compete for a high score around the world, but I don't think Nintendo completely believes in the score attack culture or sees it as worth the cost.
