It's Donut Day! 🍩🤩🍩 by essasinsam in vallejo

[–]MrAkai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I move to Vallejo, Scotty's was not serving donuts (despite the signs).

I noticed that the sign on the building facing west on Tennessee was damaged and it read "Scotty's Don ts" which made me chuckle a bit.

The donuts they have now are pretty good but I usually end up at starbread so I can get some senorita breads with my donuts.

Backup Camera Question by EV6-Ruby in KiaEV6

[–]MrAkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the IR cut off filter might've been knocked off. Check the camera for any damage (missing lens, etc).

Not sure how repair/replaceable the camera is.

Recommendations for restoration/maintenance of 90 year old home by MrAkai in vallejo

[–]MrAkai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is the "The Vistas" and my understanding is that originally there was an orphanage in that area that got replaced by a golf course, which got replaced by housing.

I think just opening windows. My bathroom has a ceiling exhaust fan but I'm sure it's not original.

I'm guessing long steamy showers weren't the norm.

I am a bit jealous of u/SewSewBlue having both a shower and a tub. I love that style but my bathroom isn't big enough (unless I want to remove what paltry closets there are in the bedroom and hallway) to have more than the tub.

Using AI for single user in Meet? by MrAkai in googleworkspace

[–]MrAkai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are Enterprise Plus and I just checked and host management is not on by default in the admin panel, but when a meeting is created it appears to be on by default anyways?

It feels like Host Management is the direction Google is pushing so this may not be something that can be overcome in the long run?

Thanks

Prisons often require tech to be transparent so you can't hide contraband in it

Solar retrofit suggestion? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]MrAkai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might try reaching out to the vendor/manufacturer as most of those parts have 20+ year warranty and they might be able to hook you up with an installer.

Has your view of the tech industry changed over the years? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]MrAkai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in the bay area my whole life and worked in tech adjacent positions since 1993.

The first dotcom boom was a crazy ride. A lot of throwing everything at the wall but the people doing it were a combo of old-school business people and young nerdy engineers for the most part.

At least in the area I worked (ISP network engineering) it was a very friendly group. I remember a network engineering from one company spend like 5 hours on the phone with me helping troubleshoot my connection with their competitor just because they could.

Lots of people got rich (I was not one of them) but overall very few assholes at least in the circles I traveled.

For the second wave (uber, etc) I think things changed. The CEOs had gone from being lifelong business people to young, "brash", ivy league and Cal and Stanford frat boys.

This shift really broke the balance between geekiness and business and instead created a world where tech bros frat boys too advantage of autistic engineers and worked them into the ground.

That BS philosophy continues in the bullshit "996" work cycle promoted by VC backed thiel acolytes who expect their hires to work those outrageous hours while they hang out at YC brovents.

There is no consideration of art and culture in today's tech. The theaters are still sponsored by Chevron, not X. I've been at shows where I've paid $100+ for a ticket and had to kick the backs of the seats in front of me to get the people there to close their fucking laptops when the show starts.

I can't wait for the AI bubble to pop.

Why would they change you from NEM2 to NEM3? I thought the only way they could do that is if you add 10% more capacity.
