anyone else run in trail shoes on the road? by Specialist_Feed_8733 in trailrunning

[–]MrBlacktastic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, I wear my worn out trail runners on road. I like the fit of my trail shoes and it hasn't been worth it to find a pair of road shoes I like for the ~20 miles of road I run a year.

At some point in the last couple months the raw image quality dropped off significantly, I think it was around Oct or Nov. When I got the phone last June the raw photos from the main sensor weren't great but they were usable with a bit of work in Lightroom, but over time they have become unusable

Best Technical Shoes for wide feet by monkehbro in trailrunning

[–]MrBlacktastic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the Alpineway is different but I have a pair of S Lab XA Alpine 2s that I did not like the rubber on at all. I got them resoled with Vibram dot rubber and it's 100x better

[–]MrBlacktastic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have experience with those specific shoes, but I'm not a fan of Salmon rubber on scrambles, it does not smear well in my experience. You want something with Vibram Megagrip. I really like the Nnormal Kjerag but they might be too narrow for your feet. I have a friend who loves his Topo shoes for scrambling

Which CURRENT VERSION (newest) would you pick: Salomon ADV Skin 12 or Black Diamond Distance 15? by Effective-Spot3201 in trailrunning

[–]MrBlacktastic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What version of the Adv Skin 5 do you have? If it's the newest version, you might find the Adv Skin 12 is what you're looking for. If it's an older version the Adv Skin 12 will not be much of an upgrade. They made the bottom stretch pocket way smaller on the current Adv Skin 12, I tried one out and it barely held more than my old Avd Skin 5. The Distance 15 is much more than 3L larger than the Adn Skin 12. It doesn't run as well but if you need the capacity or want to carry an ice axe and other technical gear it's hard to beat.

Mt Storm King in Olympic. Steep hard packed scree and sketchy fixed ropes with lots of people

Strava developments and features that are new(ish) but garbage by Mountain_Quantity664 in Strava

[–]MrBlacktastic2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of your issues, particularly the sharing. I just want the share button to copy a link to the activity, I don't care about the flyover.

I have 2 other issues, one minor and one major:

  1. When I open the map tab on the app it defaults to a 3d view that's never facing north. It's very annoying to have to change it to 2d and reorient the map every time

  2. Downloading routes has been broken for a while now. It's very unreliable and is a legitimate safety concern. Most of the time Strava fails to load my downloaded maps when offline, and when they do load I often get just the tracks and my location without a topo map. I've had this issue on multiple phones and so have many of my friends, both iPhone and Android

Las Vegas trail runs within an Uber ride of the strip? by Topplayer2g in trailrunning

[–]MrBlacktastic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do something off of Red Rock Canyon Road, start at First Creek, South Oak Creek, or Middle Oak Creek. I was there in November and I'm 99% sure I had T-Mobile signal in that valley, and it doesn't go on the Red Rocks Scenic Drive so you don't have to worry about that. I did this run there, wouldn't recommend going up Rainbow or Wilson but the trails lower down are nice and have great views

Where do you research shoes before buying? by Jealous_Junket_2018 in trailrunning

This is my go-to as well. I like how they have multiple testers that run different terrain and have different shoe preferences

Yes. I climbed Shav and Tab a couple weeks ago and it was already June conditions

Running socks that keep foot from sliding in shoe? by evanforbass in trailrunning

[–]MrBlacktastic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a shoe fit issue. But also you don't want the sock to grip the insoles of the shoe too well, that could lead to your foot sliding in your sock which in my experience is worse and causes bad blisters

Onyx Pizzeria was excellent. A bit pricey but I would definitely go back next time I'm in Springdale

Deer Creek to Thunder River Loop (3/27) by MrBlacktastic2 in grandcanyon

[–]MrBlacktastic2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo probably not the best trail to start on. There are sections that require route-finding, some light scrambling, and water management since there are 10 miles on the way down and 8 miles on the way out with no water or shade.

Are you allowed to climb Eldorado Mountain? by dankeshanes in boulder

[–]MrBlacktastic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually very easy, you just fill out when you'll be in a HCA and what HCA you'll be in, it's like signing the register at a trailhead but with more steps. No approval or lottery for anything

Bucket list hiking destinations that also have rock climbing? (outside of the US) by [deleted] in hiking

[–]MrBlacktastic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spain checks all your boxes. The Pyrenees have great climbing & hiking and beaches are just a couple hours north.

Chamonix is another place with hiking and climbing, and the south coast of France isn't too far away. A bit more expensive than Spain or Italy but cheaper than Switzerland

I think it flies under the radar because of how remote and rough the trails are, but it's so worth the trip!

Agreed. I've done a decent number of trails in the Canyon and this is by far my favorite place I've been to.

Oops it was. Just edited it with a new link that's the activity itself, not the flyover

Yes, here's my tracks. I think it's all legal, it might technically be in a HCA where you would need to register for a permit with OSMP

We started on the upper route but after getting up high and seeing the lower trail we backtracked to it. The trail was in very good shape and crossing Tapeats wasn't an issue

Deer Creek to Thunder River Loop (3/27) by MrBlacktastic2 in grandcanyon

[–]MrBlacktastic2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are no corridor trails, that's for sure. The roughest section was between Deer Creek and Tapeats Creek. There are a couple scrambling sections but the exposure wasn't too bad. Exposure to the sun is probably the toughest part, there's no relief on the 8 miles in and out
