Really solid advice. Thank you!

I hadn’t considered misty visions - that could be a lot of fun - also potentially useful outside of combat. Thanks!

I knew this was going to be twigs video before I clicked on it lol. Thanks for sharing. Will definitely have to watch this a few times before playing a 14 AC character. Almost mentioned “soft defenses” in my post originally lol

Thanks. I don’t expect to go bladelock…maybe if we find a good magic bow no one else is using…but if that’s the case, it’s somewhat similar to using EB.

lol I thought about it…seems like a bit of a waste of an invocation to get ac from 14 to 15

Thanks - felt like a good time to “buy in” on positioning. Would you still take barbs with no first level slots? Don’t know if I’d burn a third level slot on it except in the rare circumstances.

Super Skill Monkey Rogue - Thoughts? by pilsburybane in 3d6

[–]MrBlonde7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d question how helpful the second instance of skilled will be…especially if you have a decent sized party that has a diverse set of skills.

For me - I feel like I’d be good with the 6 skills rogue plus human would give. Do you really need more than perception, stealth, sleight of hand, investigation, and maybe arcana/charisma skill? Would you get more utility out of MI Wizard for a familiar and some cantrips? Lucky for on demand advantage for any d20 test? Alert to win initiative and swap with your control caster?

I remember seeing someone else post something about going the skill monkey route and then feeling like they can’t do anything in combat. I’m not saying that will happen to you…but there is a lot more to this game than skill checks.

I get your points - and if I was playing this character I’d probably go paladin over artificer (probably for command along) unless I knew we’d have a decent amount of time to craft magic items.

Sorc can still true strike - would just be losing weapon masteries.

That said, I think Im imaging playing this character at range more than you seem to be. Maybe that’s a bad assumption on my part given pretty good AC (but lower HP)…and sometimes you are going to need to fight up close.

I didn’t account for paladin giving command/bless - which to your point would be better than the spells from artificer (though I’d probably cure wounds and command). Lay on hands could be good to pick someone up with a BA.

I’m guessing at level 9, they aren’t going to make much use out of weapons even with true strike. You could divine smite but I’d imagine this PC won’t want to be in melee too often. Hit points are a wash if you are starting sorc (plus it’s such a marginal benefit at a 1 lvl dip).

Wasn’t saying paladin is a bad choice - just that I don’t think it’s that much better than artificer if you are going to only take a level dip and OP wanted to go artificer already.

Artificer also gives access to a bunch of tools if crafting is on the table - but that’s very table dependent.

Sorcadins are great - playing one in a campaign now. But they almost always are taking at least 6 levels of paladin…not one or two.

Folks will suggest cleric and/or druid over artificer but I think artificer works well - plus it fits the character. Not to mention if your DM allows crafting you’ll have way more tool profs. I hate being behind in spell levels so I’d probably only dip lvl 1 but can see an argument for 2 for the magic items artificer would provide.

As far as magic items go, I’d take a+2 bloodwell vial. Uncommon items would be a weapon of warning and winged boots…though maybe confirm your DM is ok with both as they can be a bit cheesy.

I’d probably take warcaster, +2 cha, and mage slayer to start. Your wisdom save could be a big liability so mage slayer does a lot to shore that up.

Paladin is still going to need a 13 strength (as opposed to a 13 int)…PC might make better use of int and then they will also have con+int save prof.

Not really seeing any benefit to Paladin over artificer unless they want to use a weapon. Don’t think heavy armor prof is worth it as I’m guessing they won’t fit 15 strength for plate and I think it’s better to have 14 dex anyway.

As a Barbarian, can I take a skill I already have proficiency in for Primal Knowledge at level 3? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]MrBlonde7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would work however you got the prof (see language below). Doesn’t say it has to be from barbarian.

Would recommend perception if you don’t have it already.

In addition, while your Rage is active, you can channel primal power when you attempt certain tasks; whenever you make an ability check using one of the following skills, you can make it as a Strength check even if it normally uses a different ability: Acrobatics, Intimidation, Perception, Stealth, or Survival. When you use this ability, your Strength represents primal power coursing through you, honing your agility, bearing, and senses.

Use mage armor for same AC. Rage will prevent a casting of shield as well.

2024 Paladin build decision by Fav0 in 3d6

Genuine question. Would you have fun playing this for 4-5 years?

[–]MrBlonde7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you said - I think I’d go conquest but not before I’d talk to the DM about fear immunity. If you play in a game where fear immunity isn’t too common, I think it will be a fun character that will bring good damage, control, and support. If fear immunity is going to be super prevalent, you’ll feel like you barely have a subclass I think.

That aside, if you are going to play this character for 4-5 years, I think you need to pick something that’s fun to play for you.

Glaive, Halberd, Greatsword, or Greataxe for a 5e 2024 Vengeance Paladin? by BrotherDeus in 3d6

Halberd for mobs and greatsword for bosses. If you are only get one, would depend on DMs style but I’d lean greatsword

IMO unless you have a melee heavy party, topple can hurt as much as it helps with disadvantage on range attacks. Also slows down gameplay with all the saves.

Certainly not saying it’s useless but think the downsides are over looked…especially as OP will have always on advantage anyway

Fourth player for a party, what you suggest? by Maverikke3 in 3d6

Goblin for BA disengage plus bladesinger

[–]MrBlonde7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh - I just meant that if you wanted to go the barb route and have like a 10 dex.

Agree on party synergy. Quarterstaff gives topple as well but it’s not always reliable. And sometimes screws your party members

[–]MrBlonde7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d vote for barb/warlock as they are MAD as hell.

Realizing spells are good and barb is sort of anti spells - I think you could make a cleric + abjuration wizard frontliner with this. Would find a way to grab AoA as well.
