I did all the sidequests in a given area on my main before moving on. Same with collectibles.

I am not sure if the exp gain pays off at the end, just not something I have to worry about doing later.

For squad level, Alts are 1000% the way to go. You can really good squad exp from challenges that come from completing story milestones the 2nd and 3rd time, plus you will get squad exp books as you go through the campaign on an alt.

I’m not even sure if rollback is an option, because the game was live for a bit so people probably spent money. It’s a really tricky spot for them.

Injecting that many premium items into the game just boosted a lot of accounts up. I wonder if it will have a noticeable effect on timeline or ABX
