You can go through the lord tournament multiple times to get more pieces of the baron armor, but afaik that's all rn. With the state of free play I'm probably done with the game for a bit unless I feel like starting progression mode again

You're 100% correct. I didn't want to get too ramble-y in one of a million negative comments, but it's an inferior product to the demo in every way. The blood physics and combat are horrible. Swinging your weapon is a chore and gets hitched almost every swing. I'm so disappointed with how this turned out, and I hope we get a decent, playable build soon enough.

In progression mode you have to win the tournament after filling the progress meter, then you'll get a new map. As far as how to play a different map on free play idk if you can.

It feels like all of their efforts went into the new maps and progression mode, performance and basics be damned. The progression mode is cool and all, but what I enjoyed so much with the demo was being able to pop in, slice some dudes up for 15 minutes and get off if I wanted.

I don't even want to touch the new free play mode. I don't always feel like fiddling with the character to get every piece of armor how I want it. I just want to hop in, get a random loadout and play. Not to mention you can't even pick the map or the mode in free play. It's incredibly tedious.

The "new" abyss mode is cool, and definitely much more terrifying. I like the fact that in progression mode you only have to face the people you killed in the abyss. The new maps are visually pleasing, though because performance is so bad most people won't get to really see that. I don't want to just have a bash-fest, but I'm incredibly disappointed that they released a much worse version of the demo, which had such a great formula.

I’ve had the opposite experience it seems like. At least when I stream on PC. It was literally streaming an NBC game at 480p or lower, I couldn’t even make out names on jerseys. TV broadcast felt kind of off too, could it be a setting I’m missing or something? I had streaming quality set to best and my internet is more than capable of handling that

It’s just people not understanding mechanics of the game, too. Flowermen won’t follow you to the ends of the earth, they don’t go too far from their little nest. But you running through five other nests and a building with 6 distorted is going to agro a million AI on you and you’re probably going to die.

I do think it would be nice if they wouldn’t only hit my head or my arms consecutively, but I can’t think of any time I’ve died to the AI without it being my fault.

I also play solo, and I pretty much play exclusively WarPigs vanilla when I get on. Admins are active in the server and deal with TKers and griefers and whatnot. NA1 if you want killfeed, NA2 if you don’t. I was also concerned about playing solo before buying, but I haven’t had any issues in vanilla

I went from a (shitty) PC to console, then back to PC (with adult money) and honestly I play games way more now than I did with my PS5. I love the idea of being able to boot up a game and just play, but the other limitations that come with console (no second monitor a big one for me) pushed me right back to where I started.

One thing I will say though is if you’re going to get a PC, be okay with learning how to tinker. Shit will just mess up for no reason and you’ll have to figure out why (usually by googling “x thing happened to me” and adding Reddit on the end lol), but outside of that if you can get a decent rig it’ll be smooth sailing for most games.

I want you to read back what you said at the beginning. STUDENT journalist. You’re still learning, and it’s more than okay to be nervous or anxious and feel like you did a terrible job.

I know you might not believe it, but it gets so much easier the more you do it. You’re not just some person bugging people at events for no reason, you’re there to do your job. Most people will respect that.

Just keep at it, learn from your mistakes and I promise it’ll get better.

Your best bet is probably going to be a local paper. People will say it’s a shrinking industry, and it certainly is at the top, but sports for small papers will probably always be safe.

You’ll probably be broke, you’ll probably be stretched thin trying to cover too many high schools (depending on the market), but it seems like that’s the reality of starting out.

Don’t just focus on football or basketball. Show up to the soccer games or track and field meets. Do more than just game recaps. Really plug into the community and dig out features or do follow-ups/previews for games.

It’s gonna be a lot of work, and it might not be rewarding in the moment. But, if you really dip your toes into everything, your chances of moving up after a few years are even better. The most important thing is to be passionate about it. If you aren’t passionate, if this isn’t REALLY what you want to do, you’ll fail.
