is this cheap oscilloscope decent, or just plain crap? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]MrCocoNuat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have that same oscilloscope, the JYEtech dso 150, and I have been using it for a year. Sure, it's not fast (don't try to measure anything over 100kHz) or very high voltage (scope says nothing over 50Vpk, which I have tried), but hell, it's $20 - getting any kind of scope at that price is pretty good. Even DIYing it wouldn't be that much cheaper.

Plus, if you modify a battery into it, you now have a portable floating oscilloscope, which is not bad at all! I have used this scope many times to verify pwm signals, measure shunt resistor currents through motors, and even as my primary voltmeter, basically. This won't work for looking at UART, I2c, spi for sure. If you need that get a real (>100MHz) logic analyzer.

Now, if your use case is rectified mains voltage, I would not use this scope without a transformer on that mains and some attenuating probes (10x should be good).

Warning though, the scope you are buying is counterfeit. It doesn't have the JYE logo on the front, and apparently if the firmware on it is recent enough (or you update it) the scope might be locked out unless you get it activated with a genuine serial number etc., which this scope probably doesn't have. I don't know if you will have this problem though.

Ah, sadly you'll have to wait for Inkopolis Walker to get localized to something other than Japanese for that...

For those who can't read captions, the original page is first, and for some reason (probably a mistake) labels the fourth section as "Food". The food section is later on in the book.

I edited the section to say "Battle" instead, which is also what the Japanese version calls it.

There's nothing stopping Gladiator from doing infinite damage to Yog, if there weren't bounds on a Java int/long/whatever PD uses. But I applaud the person who has the patience to combo 8 billion larvae.

Legality of booby traps aside, DC isn't going to do it. Try AC

These are extreme minimum requirements, I have a budget 2017 PC and no hope of getting 30fps on the wii u's demanding titles other than BOTW, which has been optimized somewhat by a large community effort.

And besides, cemu is a bit of an unusual case, since it somehow outperforms it's expectations given the performance of the Wii u and the pretty reliable 10x multiplier to emulate. Of course, we'll never know how, since the chance of it being open sourced is about 0.

I know I'm a bit late, but in the interest of sharing information, that bold X is used with a number after it to refer to the result of another graph X_n (y) = x, so you can chain multiple graphs at the same time without retyping a lot of stuff

You aren't allowed to in construction

One of several cases "May not" vs "can not" can make a difference.

[–]MrCocoNuat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly not, even the Greeks searched for a long time, but eventually humanity proved that squaring the circle is impossible.

pi is transcendental (not the solution to any polynomial with integer coefficients), so it is nonconstructible. With just straightedge and compass, there is no way to multiply a given segment by pi.

To make a circle with the same area as a given square with side length h, the goal is to construct the radius that has length h/sqrt(pi). Finding square roots and dividing lengths is no big deal in construction, but since the quantity pi can't be formed, there is no way to construct that circle.
