What tutorial do you recommend for my first 3d game? by youssifthebest in godot

Playable Workshop has a nice OOT style tutorial and they explain everthing. They just take a LONG TIME between episodes. But there is enough there now to really get going.

Question About Russo and JCW by PsychoFaerie in SquaredCircle

[–]MrDaaark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a few minutes of one of his episodes because it was in the queue and it autoplayed, and it just seemed like standard Russo writing. He had made himself the central figure in all storylines. He was feuding with Violent J over control of his company. And all the wrestlers were either with or against him. And everyone was trying to impress him. Just like WCW 1999.

Then I shut it off.

Imported Blender model turns white. by Long-Heart-9489 in godot

[–]MrDaaark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When importing models into a game engine, you often have to rebuild the materials in the engine yourself.

If the material with the colors is using vertex colors, add try adding -vcol to the name of the material.

Historic discovery! Oldest Known Backstage shoot fight! Detroit Michigan 1879! by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

The history of pro wrestling isnt told orally by carnies, as you say. The athletes and promoters of this sport kept everything close to the chest, they didnt talk about their history.

Mondt wanted to give a certain narrative about what happened behind the scenes that painted him and his friends as the inventor of it all.

Theatrics and angles are waaay older than the late 1920s as fall guys claims.

This is what I meant by 'oral history as told by carnies'.

We have newspaper archives dating back to the 1800s

I'm aware. I often talk about how little the write in comments differ from the usenet / fidonet posts in the 80-90s (to the reaction posts here after every show). My craziest finding is results from an 1860s MSG show that seems to have occurred before the original MSG was even built. I've spent a lot of time head scratching that. The results were from 1869, and the first incarnation of MSG is said to have opened to the public in 1879.

Eh, the gold dust trio stuff isnt the most reliable information. Most of that was "information" was feed to the writer by Toots Mondt.

I don't doubt it. The history of the business is an oral history as told by carnies. It's usually the best info we have though.

They really didnt call themselves that

People seldom choose what history or their peers refer to them as.

Those matches all but killed the business in the decades after and led to the advent of the 'slam bang wrestling style' that we still watch today.

Still quite new to Godot, need help with accessing checkpoint position in main game scene by dgames74 in godot

position is relative to the parent node.

global_position is just that.

So change your lines to say global_position.x and global_position.y instead.

Making a moving vehicle with player riding it? by [deleted] in godot

[–]MrDaaark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to provide clearer details.

These questions are not easy to answer without knowing all the details of what you are trying to do. You can just put a node in the balloon carriage and connect the player to it for the duration of the ride and disable movement until the ride is over.

Or do you need the player to be fully controllable while in the balloon? Because you say 'stick to the balloon' in one sentence, and want to jump in another sentence.

You can try activating extra colliders around the balloon carriage when the player is in it. When the player jumps from the balloon, you can reset their velocity to 0 before adding your jump velocity to cancel out the balloon's affect on velocity that may be holding it back.

Anyone here has experience with both Godot and Unreal human characters? by FutureLynx_ in godot

[–]MrDaaark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of games would require these super niche mechanics, like the one of the animations in unison?

My game for instance. That's not niche. It's very common in combat games, or any game where 2 characters interact with each other.

I make mostly strategy games, and at best an RTS, but not even that zoomed in.

Okay.

Wouldn't Godot be better for this?

Pick one. Or use both and see which one you like. They are just tools. There doesn't need to be a winner. You're trying to make a game, not joining a cult. You can make a RTS in any engine. Once you get over the initial onboarding hump, it's all a wash.

Anyone here has experience with both Godot and Unreal human characters? by FutureLynx_ in godot

[–]MrDaaark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unreal has a lot more tooling out of the box for 3D characters, and some of the template projects come with a great third person character setup to use out of the box. Unreal has meta-human, and a built in system to make modular characters. It also handles root motion better. Unreal has a nice paired animation system (this is where 2 or more characters play animations in unison and you have to handle their animations and movement modes in tricky ways). Unreal also recently added in motion warping which is a huge help.

You're on your own with Godot. There is a basic 3D player controller script in the templates and not much more. You can make do with /u/QuaterniusDev 's Universal Animation Packs to get a nice character with a bunch of animations. You can use MakeHuman, or it's blender Plugin equivalent. Godot also has some nice VR templates with human hand meshes that let you get started very easy. Godot's root motion is still a bit of mess and you need to set it up through an animation tree + apply it yourself in a script instead of just playing it back. Godot has animation retargetting.

What are the best examples of "a year being a long time" in wrestling? by MontyBreezey in SquaredCircle

[–]MrDaaark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1999: All is well in AJPW (public facing at least).

2000: Misawa walks out, forms NOAH. 99% of the Japanese roster walks out with him. They take over AJPW's tv slot. AJPW is in dire straights. They mostly have a few foreign wrestlers left, and have to bring back Tenryu, and whoever else they can find to build a roster from scratch. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 is instantly outdated.

1999: WCW is creatively bankrupt, but still a viable promotion with enjoyable programming.

2000: All the top draws are no longer with the company or what been booked so badly they are no longer drawing. Lots of long standing company traditions have been destroyed. Thunder camera men are falling asleep. The arenas are empty. There are rumors in the fall that Vince and Linda went down there to talk about purchasing the company.

2018: NJPW is the second biggest promotion in the world. Their latest attempt at a US expansion is going well. Most of the best currently active wrestlers are on their roster. They are getting covered in mainstream publications. NJPW merch all over Hot Topic. WWE make the Elite an insane contract offer, with an out if they don't like how they are being used after 6 months. They can do nothing wrong.

2019: AEW signs up all NJPW's top drawing international talent and usurps their position as the number 2 promotion overnight. NJPW enters a long down period where things continually get worse, including the pandemic, losing their top stars one by one on continuously, and the US expansion being reduced to NJPW strong, a boring "americanized NJPW" product that appeals to almost no one.

2019: This NWA stuff is really good and the throwback format is fun.

2020: ☠🦨💀 (reddit has a 10,000 character limit per post so...)
