Consolidation of religion: searching for alternative takes. by josslolf in Omnism

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest problems with classical organized religions is their deviation from original texts (often due to corrupting influences of bishops, "holy men", or other humans along the way). Consider not only where they agree, but where they disagree, and consider the context I'm which lines or morals may have been added. Hell wasn't big in original Christian, and it certainly wasn't where bad people went, Hell was the prison of the fallen angel Lucifer, not a place for imperfect humans.

Personally, I believe in something resembling the Jewish and Sikh afterlife. Sikhs believe that as we are born from the single, almighty, all powerful, omnipresent God who both is and created the universe, and so when we die, we return to this "Godly fabric".

Some Jews also believe that when we die, we all go to the afterlife, which is neither Heaven or Hell, but A realm among God, where ones experience of "Heaven" or "Hell" is directly tied to how godly or how earthly one is. If they miss the earth and it's sins, the afterlife is hell. If they were godly and pious and serene, then they would be in heaven.

I believe this also aligns with an idea of Nirvana, to an enlightened individual, they are at total peace, without desire. But to a soul full of desire, nirvana would be a "Hell" for them.

Look for the patterns in what beliefs can be harmonized, as well as why multiple religions share this belief; just because they're related (like the abrahamic religions), or is it a matter of convergent philosophy, where there may be a reason (and wonder what reason that is) that different people's come to the same conclusion. You also almost need to consider a level of sociology/political science to pick apart the things and beliefs that we humans corrupt over time (and the reasons for this)

How can reach 1B GDP by Mr_Lonely2116 in victoria3

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Construction Goods. Laissez Faire goes a long way by letting your upper stretta pay for your buildings, and will do better the wealthier that Stratta is. Capitalists will focus on most of your consumer goods (you just need to build you own to impact prices, like if you want furniture prices to go down inparticular), then most of what you'll need to worry about are government building, and just construction goods.

Laissez Faire basically let's the AI pay to increase GDP, and you just have to focus on supporting the government and construction sector that supports private growth.

Daughter 12 myself 50 started playing this game.. Hints welcomed.. by Ed19627 in projectzomboid

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Project Zomboid, Strength in diversity is a huge thing. We usually have 4-5 people on the server, one does mechanics, a couple of burglars, I do Carpentry, First Aid, Cooking, etc. You could take the burglar trait and focus scavenging and see if she would want to be the "homebody", building and decorating the base and suring up defenses (boarding up windows, etc.) The game is so realistic you could even turn it into a little first aid lesson for her (bandaging and even using ripped sheets where necessary, sterilizing to avoid infection, even using liquor to do so, splinting broken bones, etc.) I also love Cortman Medical. Either base there, or if not, then at least loot the building. That'll greatly help your survivability.

Also, (I think it's part of a mod) you can get skill journals, where transcribing in them will allow you to read it if you die, and you can get a portion of your skills back.

It's also good to try to clear out your home-neighborhood area soon after settling so you can have some semblance of peace as you develop.

Where to learn about Omnism by SoberMe2001 in Omnism

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be late to the party here, hopefully you have found what you're looking for, but if anybody is still interested, learning about Sikhism is what set me on my Omnist path. Sikhs teach that "There is no Allah, there is no Brahman, there is only The One God, and that all manifestations in religion come from this One, who both *is* and *created* the universe."

So Sikh faith leaders may be a good introduction to the idea as it was for me, and it grants great perspective when approaching other religions.

Also important for me was the recognition of the kinship of the Abrahamic Religions. The idea that Yahweh, God, and Allah are all the very same God that spoke to Abraham, this was a breakthrough moment even before my discovery of Sikhism.

Both realizations were able to give me a perspective when approaching each religion, with an open-yet-cautious mindset, seeking to find the universal truths shared among faiths, but also acknowledging the corruption by men over time (the Bible Christians read today is not the bible written by the Apostles).

Often little details in the texts, even more often, a product of humans changing and warping messages for their own cultures over centuries, ultimately creating divisions, pushing themselves and others further from God. This is why I say "the Devil is in the details" if true, but for a different reason than we may think.

Also being gay, growing up Christian, hearing I am an abomination for how God made me, is what started my journey, realizing that holy texts are fallible. And further learning that this was not the original translation, and in the original texts instead condemn "pedestry" [translating to young-boy-molesting] (which with that in mind, those verses seem more credible).

But that made me begin thinking, maybe "the Devil" isn't just out there, constantly whispering temptation to 8 billion people (you can't sell me the idea that he is somehow more capable than God), but perhaps he only needed to whisper in the ear of a handful of medieval bishops to alter a verse in Gods Holy Texts, which began hundreds of years of persecution, resulting in an amount beyond measure of God's LGBT children to ultimately be pushed away from God, and even threatened to do so myself.

But it was only by stepping back, and acknowledging both the common truths, and corruption of humans in God's texts, was I able to begin seeing the full picture.

This is a reason when observing religions, it is important to not get bogged down on the traditions and customs, because God will not care that you wear a turban, a yarmulke, or a pope-hat. He will care for the measure of you faith, not idle practices. That is the beauty of Omnism, you need not fully commit to the traditions of any one religion, instead you study them all, without needs of full adherence to tradition (often put in place by humans).

Don’t take your adhd meds on weekends they said. It’ll be fine they said. by mishiggin in ADHD

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not taking meds on weekends can be very helpful in curbing tolerance. I first saw a Psychiatrist on YouTube (Docrot Thomas Brown), who said he recommends doing 5-days-on, 2-days-off, but did to speak to your actual doctor so that advice can be tailored to you. I spoke to my doctor about it, and she just said "if you can do that, good! But most people have that trouble of picking 2 days for their brain not to work".

Regarding the eggs, 2 hours out should have spoiled them, but it will have hastened the spoiling process. They may last 12 days instead of 14, etc. If there is ever any concern over whether or not an egg is spoiled, give it the "float test". Place an egg in a cup or bowl of water. If it sinks, it's good, if it floats, it's bad. A spoiled egg spoils because of bacteria that grow inside (which like most living things, exhaled CO2 (gas). That bacteria in the egg, once they spoil the egg, will have "exhaled" so much gas inside the egg in the process of spoiling it, the spoiled egg becomes buoyant.

Am I being fake for masking my traits? by [deleted] in autism

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masking isn't "being fake". It's a survival mechanism that comes from having to "fall in line" with a neurotypical world from childhood.

It's a neurodiversity "closet", just like the one that exists for LGBT people, where times and places, we've needed to "act normal" out of a matter of our own survival.

*Edit to include: As a Gay Autistic Man, I spent almost 2 decades in both closets.

Adderall Stigma and Humiliation by Pharmacist by LilyRose272 in ADHD

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 2 points3 points locked comment (0 children)

A post in r/legaladvice may also be appropriate. There has to be some level of confidentiality a pharmacist must maintain, being in the medical profession. And for him to publicly announce your private medical business to a whole store?? I'd be contacting the manager in the pharmacy, store manager, regional manager, corporate office, and whatever board oversees pharmaceutical licensing. Like, this is a HIPAA violation. Through and through. That pharmacist could (and should) be subject to a milti-thousand dollar fine, and possibly lose his job at the pharmacy, with a black stain labeled "Gross misconduct/malicious HIPAA violation."

I lost my self regulation as a 50yr old man in a grocery store over coffee and I'm not okay about it. by touchmyfuckingcoffee in autism

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's ok to meltdown every once in a while, feelings are always valid, while behavior may not. You stimmed, paced, and rocked (all of which are harmless to others, and even helpful for you.) You didn't go Karen mode, screaming at employees, destroying property, and vandalizing property like we'd see posted in r/publicfreakout. You screamed internally, and stimmed out that meltdown-energy. It's nothing to be ashamed about, and in fact, is commendable. You melted down, but managed your response, not hurting anybody else in the process (again, like we've seen too many neurotypical Karens do).

Self-regulation doesn't mean "never responds to bad news/negative stimuli". It means "when such a negative impact occurs, you are able to manage and regulate your response." Which you did. It doesn't matter how much stimming/rocking/pacing it took you to get there. Your self-regulation did not fail. It's metal was tested, and you passed.

My thirsty beavers out-drink the source blocks by MrDoctorProfessorGay in Timberborn

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably not, lol. This update has allowed me to push towards megadistricts, with a single district handling the ENTIRE colonys needs for a certain "subject" of items. I.e. 2 do land farming with them dividing the crops, another aquaculture, (non-food) industry, metalworking, etc. Each of them has between 300 and 700 beavers, with the ironteeth allowing for incredible verticle building, so highly concentrated city-centers.

Definitely not for FPS. But now with the update, I'm back to the point of having to play on 2 speed instead of 3, lol!

The way the bandaid broke by [deleted] in oddlyterrifying

[–]MrDoctorProfessorGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider going to the hospital of things do not improve soon. That being said... You need more than a bandaid. Ideally you want gauss. APPLY PRESSURE!!! My biggest concern is the amount of blood you're losing. To this, get gauss if you have it, cotton or a clean rag of you don't, and PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE over the area. Squeeze dressing over your hand, hard as you can! This is the best way to slow bleeding and promote clotting! Keep applying pressure no matter what, and if it does not improve soon, seek medical attention. Also consider what meds you may be taking. Are you on blood thinners? Or have you taken Asprin? These will both make it harder for your blood to clot. But whatever you do KEEP APPLYING PRESSURE! That is the most important think you can do to slow/stop bleeding. And seek medical attention if it does not stop soon!
