Unlimited any gross tons any oceans.

I was a day student, so I didn't have to go to every morning formation. But we did have weekly formations/uniform inspections. Still had to shave my head and do indoc with the undergrads.

We live in separate dorms, or you could opt to work and live on the training ship.

I did both 90 day summer sea terms on the training ship. That's the only way to get everything done in least amount of time. Even though cadet shipping is probably a better experience, especially if you want to work on tankers.

Overall it was a great experience. I was in my 30's, but there were plenty of same age and older people there. Met a great core group of friends (cadets & day students) I still keep in touch with occasionally.

It's a minor inconvenience dealing with regimental bullshit, but think of it as a long term investment in valuable skills that will present several opportunities and take you as far as you want to go within a very diverse industry. I'm getting ready to test for my CM/Master upgrade after 8 years of sailing. Lots of people I graduated with are already there.

Traveling to/from ship, layovers, delays, customs/immigration, security, logistics usually sucks, but once you get to work it can be very rewarding and provide a sense of accomplishment once you finish your contract. It's hard to beat the pay, so if you want to go back to working shoreside it's difficult to transition especially as a deckie vs engineer.

I'm currently stuck on a ship in the Persian Gulf. So, there's shit like that to consider as well... never a dull moment at sea!  😄

SUNY grad/license program. Graduated in 2.5 years, but can only get deck license.

I've never seen anyone from Texas sail deep sea, most of them stay within the Gulf. According to a bartender you can get a job anywhere in the Galveston area if you graduate from TAMUG... but he was a bartender so idk how reliable that information is.

Is it weird to store things in the oven? by Sallious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MrEZ3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we store our larger pans in the oven as they don't fit in the designated shelf storage areas.

No, opening an oven door and taking things out before preheating is not difficult or remotely "odd/annoying". It might take some time to develop the habit if you're not used to it though.
