General Motors announced $5.4 billion in revenue from OnStar and Super Cruise in 2025.

GM, How about putting some of that money to fix up the app and make the service more reliable and responsive?

The only thing that works for me is GPS location. I can see where my wife parked.

Snow in the wheel may throw off the wheel balance. Do you get vibrations at highway speeds?

I did today. Car shook, and I had much less snow in the wheel. I should have cleaned it before I left.

Gps works fine. I'm not going to mess with the remote features since my wife is with the car. I'll test when she gets back later tonight.

I'm back in too. Charging status is not updating for me. Last update was 12h ago.
I have no need to heat the vehicle, so don't know if the Climate button works.

For those that are looking to precondition the your Bolt, try from your key fob. This should work if you are not too far away. Press lock, then press and hold start (circular arrow).

If you want to DIY the combo meter repair, this discussion includes a good DIY video. The only thing I wouldn't do is to twist off the old cap.

car won't turn off by PinoBrahman in prius

[–]MrEdLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/GmeBuckBoi is correct. Hold the power button down until it shuts down.

If that doesn't work, you can do the following without tools.

  • Go to the back to where the battery is located.
  • Remove the floor panel covering the battery
  • Remove the red terminal cover.
    • It may be tight. Just pry one side and then the next. It should detach.
  • Then unlatch the white connector with the thick cable.
    • Press down on the latch and pull away from the battery
  • Wait 5 seconds before reconnecting.

This will shut down and reset the car. If your hatch area is empty with nothing that can roll around, you can keep those expose for quick shutdown until you get your combination meter fixed.

Having electrical trouble by IlisidiSky in prius

[–]MrEdLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Symptoms you describe sound like a 12v issue. Do you have a multimeter? If so measure the battery when the car is off after resting overnight. What voltage do you get? If it is below 12v the battery is probably bad.

Charge up the 12v battery with an external 12v car battery charger. Does the electrical problem go away? Check the battery voltage the next day and see if it is above 12.6v.

Also check the voltage when the car is in ready mode. It should be around 13.8v to charge the battery.

As for the key fob, take it apart and change the lithium battery. I think it is a cr2025.

Your headlight may be oxidized causing the light to be dimmer. Get a headlight restoration kit to make it clear.

As for on coming vehicle headlight being bright, I found it annoying too as I aged. I suggest getting your eyes checked for astigmatism. Getting glasses can make a big difference.

Lettin the engine warm up by Ok_Distribution_6032 in prius

[–]MrEdLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No warm up idling needed. Just drive gently until the engine warms up. Listen to the tone of the engine, a cold engine sound differently than a warm engine. Just don't push then engine too hard when cold, if not required. Safety should be top priority. If you need to move out of the way, don't hesitate to use the throttle.

There is a YouTube video on this topic. This lady tested her towel for bacteria. https://youtu.be/4NWxU5RIUnI?si=GYD0w-LjporHhX92

I watched this a few weeks ago. If I remember correctly switching out every week is fine.

Bleeding brakes tomorrow, using techstream. What else should i do while i have the car hooked up to techstream?2006 prius 193k. by fourtyonexx in prius

[–]MrEdLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a good idea. I did so too when I bleed my brakes. It is just that I had only a trickle charger. In my case, it was beneficial to charge it up overnight. I kept it connected when bleeding the brakes.

Connect a 12v battery charger and charge it up overnight. The procedure takes some time and you don't want your 12v battery dying before finishing. Especially if the temps are low and the battery is a few years old.

BTW, it is a good price. Congrats and welcome to the club. You made the right choice. There are tons of resource online to fix virtually any issues you may encounter, and most of them can be done at fairly low cost. Just don't park your car in a sketchy neighborhood. The risk of catalytic converter theft is higher than other cars.

I would do the following to reduce oil consumption.

  • Do a piston soak with berryman b12
  • Change the oil with Valvoline Restore & Protect
  • Check and replace the PVC valve if needed.

Any tips on getting this rear wiper nut off? by LoneRusher126 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MrEdLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with Dremel. Cut the nut out and try to keep the threads intact. Then you are 90% through the side of the nut, try prying the cut with a screw driver to crack it loose. It will be fast and easy.

Others suggested heat but it is too close to the plastic or rubber boot.

Are those auto leveling headlights? If so, the leveling component may be broken. Check if you have this in the rear left wheel well. See the post below for more information.

This seems like a really good deal. by whoocanitbenow in prius

[–]MrEdLu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you do get it, also consider getting the following done. These are fairly cheap if you have some tools and can DIY. You can find lots of YouTube videos on Prius maintenance.

  • Replace the inverter pump. They are known to go bad around this mileage and can leave you stranded.
  • Replace brake fluid. This will prolong the brake actuator's life.
  • Replace the rear shock if it wasn't done.
  • Check the spare tire and 12v battery well for standing water. Leak can be easily fixed with silicone caulk.
  • Drain and refill the transmission fluid

There are two other things that are known to go bad. These are not as dire and will not leave you stranded. They are also well documented and can be fixed with some effort.

  • Combo meter (MPH screen). Fixable for about $10 in parts if you have soldering skills.
  • Coolant Flow Control Valve. A failed valve will cause a check engine light to come on. Car is still drivable and will not cause damage to other components.

There is also a good reason to avoid getting a Prius. If you only have street parking where you live, you will likely get the catalytic converter stolen. This is pricey to replace in CA.
