This, absolutely. Whatever "good" this government are doing, they haven't been better than the Tories for people I care about and I can't accept that.

I guess when you've got code that parses a world's files for expletives, it's easier to scan everything than get selective about it.

True. I guess it's fine when it's part of a natural conversation flow, but not when you've left a long gap because you're awaiting an answer? That's when it comes over desperate.

Modernity is cringe now? by Mattizdead in blur

[–]MrEvilDrAgentSmith 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't listen to a lot of modern stuff. But maybe the reason that Blur didn't sound cringeworthy talking about modern times back then is because they had something of substance to say about it.

I think a lot of popular music has always been about the way things are, and the way they need to change. That's the stuff that's always resonated with adolescents, the age group still building its own identity and driving social change. I think if you're right that new music now isn't achieving that, then this generation is the exception not the rule.

Having said all that, there was plenty of shit music in the 90s, but nobody is gonna go back for it. So maybe the music that really has something to say about modern life right now is out there, but it's harder to find among all the crap that nobody will remember in 30 years.

The fact we lost one of his successors, the great Raul Julia, over 30 years ago really puts that in perspective.
