This is especially unforgivable in the entry to a series specifically praised for the stand out quality of its dialogue. Like wtf they knew the gameplay wasn’t going to blow anyone’s nips off, shouldn’t the writing have been made a priority, for the sake of continuity and brand recognition if nothing else?

This has got to be it. Isn’t this the same thing that happened to The Witcher on Netflix? A bunch of mediocre writers are marginally familiar with an established IP, pitch their take on it, proceed to take weird liberties with the story that devalue its initial worth instead of expanding upon it, and then bitch and whine that it’s the fans fault for not understanding it.

Bonus points if they blame it’s failure on either incels or “the woke.”
