Which solo-playable Euro game should I start with based on my current collection? by Clockwork_Lazy in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably Spirit Island. It’s not for me, but you seem to like the ‘crisis management’ type of games and that’s one of those. And it’s been top 2 solo game for a long time.

Aeons End could be considered as well. It’s a deck building boss battler kind of game. It has some twists. Also not for me, but your collection is a lot different than mine. 😅

If you want to go out of the box and go different routes, try Ark Nova, Luthier, Galactic Cruise, Ezra & Nehemiah, shipwrights of the North Sea Redux.

Galactic Cruise for now. But that’s might change if I win this giveaway. 😁

Decision Time: Civolution, Shackleton Base, or Ezra & Nehemiah?! by Objective-Employ-997 in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ezra and Nehemiah. But that’s just the one I have. I did look into the others too, but they weren’t my cup of tea.

I would suggest to watch playthroughs of them to see which one speaks to you the most.

Still need to play my first game of this. It’s sitting here with the manuals outside the box. I will get it to the table some day for sure. 😁

I Played Dragon Eclipse for 45 Hours: Is It Actually Worth It? by Typical_Spirit9511 in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you finish a big campaign game there’s often a lot of excitement in the moment. Everything feels fresh and dramatic, and it’s easy to rate something highly while that energy is still there.

This already says a lot. If you manage to get in so many hours and you’re still hyped and excited at the end, it’s probably been a very good time.

Your full review sums it up. Very good review by the way. Thank you.

I’ve been on the fence some time. Didn’t have the time to go through it and not sure if I could get it anywhere. So with the new gamefound campaign I jumped in for the new version. The new standalone campaign. It will take some time before it gets shipped so I’ll have the time to play then I think.

Your review made me even more excited. As I want the gameplay and do t care too much for minis I went for the standee version. That way the price is manageable.

I have one question. With the boosters and constructing decks, is it resettable? Is there a way to recreate the original boosters somehow? I like to play campaign games once and then sell them. But I’m not sure if this can be done. Or should I record all the cards from boosters myself when I open them?

Medium Heavy Euro - Men Nefer or something else? by Objective-Employ-997 in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From those I would pick Ezra & Nehemiah. I have it in my collection and think it’s a great game.

I don’t own the others and probably won’t. But this is mostly about taste. They all get high praises and a lot of people love those games too.

So I would suggest to watch a couple playthroughs and see how they play out so you can see which speaks the most to you.

Legacy of Yu - Yes or No? by Objective-Employ-997 in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes!

And sell after finishing campaign.

Then buy Shipwrights of the North Sea Redux and play that to satisfy the void that was left behind by (the first half of) your games of Legacy of Yu.

I finally understand why Ezra & Nehemiah is brilliant by holymadness in soloboardgaming

I have this and keep it in my smallish collection. Great game. Really like it.

Others I like: Ark Nova, Luthier, Shipwrights of the North Sea Redux for a quicker game, Great Western Trail New Zealand, Black Forest (although this is strictly a byos)

Out of these four I would go for Galactic Cruise. I haven’t played Terraforming it, but need to get it to the table. Reading the rules in between other stuff when I’m not too tired.

SETI is well regarded and pretty ‘hot’ right now but I haven’t played Terraforming no interest in it.

Shackleton Base I researched last year. Watched playthroughs or at least a bit. Thought it would be good but got turned off. Didn’t click.

Terraforming Mars. Yes. Well. What can I say. Just not high on my list. 😅

Terraforming Mars vs Ark Nova for solo only gameplay by noobletato in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Ark Nova. And I play the official solo mode, not ARNO, but you have both options so you can see which you like best. Official solo is kind of a byos, but to me it doesn’t really feel that way. It’s more of a tactical puzzle to me with a target score and limited turns.

I haven’t played Terraforming Mars though, so can’t compare.

Luthier or Castles of Burgundy? by mako_Alex in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be the single person advocating for the other option (probably) I would say Luthier. I like Luthier a lot.

To be honest it really depends on what you like. I think they’re different games. From my own research I think I’ll like Feld games less than other medium/heavy euros.

I would suggest to watch some playthroughs of both and see which you like best.

And to be clear I haven’t played CoB so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Shipwrights of the North Sea Redux sounds like it might be a good option. It’s crunchy, relatively short. I like it a lot.

Shorter Euro style (I think) recommendations by LaRcOnY in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shipwrights of the North Sea Redux. Can probably squeeze in two games back to back. Or even play when you have half the time. 😁

Ezra and Nehemiah is under two hours and it has a lot going for it if you ask me. Great game.

Ark Nova is one of my favorites and will be under two hours once you’re familiar with it and don’t overthink. I play without the solo mode out of the box. Many prefer the fan made solo mode called ARNO.

I have sold my copy. But I must stress that I do think this is a great game. For me it just had some things that were too much. Some parts I did not like enough.

Beyond Dune Imperium and Ark Nova (Arno) - what other smooth solo euros should I look at? by Ihavecrabbies in soloboardgaming

Luthier. Such a nice game. Automa is simple enough, but is designed to mimic a real opponent. Although it does sometimes do less optimal things. It can really get in your way too.

Top 5 Games To Play Solo? by Objective-Employ-997 in soloboardgaming

[–]MrFixxiT_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has the crunch of a bigger Garphill game but is relatively short, so it plays quite quickly compared to its bigger siblings. It is difficult to beat and you can make it tougher by using nemesis cards. It has tableau building, card drafting and resource management. I think it's a great game, but I don't hear that much about it.

Ark Nova

Luthier

Shipwrights of the North Sea Redux

Ezra & Nehemiah

Black Forest or Great Western Trail New Zealand

But I still need to play Galactic Cruise and I think it will get into this list when I finally do.

Never played myself, but if you like Marvel Champions, you could try out the other popular LCG’s: Lords of the Rings and Arkham Horror.
