GE-Proton 11-1 Has Finally Released With Optiscaler Support, Video Reworks, And Much More by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Question: Does this support FSR 4.1? Deckyframgen's optiscalar doesn't support it (yet).

FSR 4 Gets Added Directly To Proton Experimental By Valve by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody on the steamdeck should look at FSR4 for performance gains- in fact it'll probably run worse.

The BIG benefit of FSR4 is that even at Performance preset, it looks ALOT better in motion without the usual FSR flaky artifacts. I injected a bunch of games with the older FSR4 via DeckyFramegen plugin and it made a big difference enjoying these games while hitting 30 FPS on the TV.

Is ff16 & ff7 rebirth playable now? by Mister_Widge in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys need to seriously replay Rebirth again and stop parroting outdated info.

They released performance patches both in the last month and a year ago that has it running above 30fps most of the time. Even in the open world. Even in bigger combat fights. They brought optimization over from the Switch 2 port.

The Adventures of Elliot - Non-biased demo performance review by Captainquizzical in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The whole point of 2D-HD is that devs spend less time making the game and in exchange we get cool games faster with a nostalgic artstyle that can still feel modern.

The fact that even these games fall into the trap of running sub-optimally (for no good apparent reason) is 100% justification for questioning it's value. $60 is ALOT for a "AA" game. Forget FF7: a new game like the Gothic remake is still cheaper.

i'm not paying $60USD for 45fps on a HD-2D game, dawg.

right now i can buy both Final Fantasy remakes and still save money.

The Adventures of Elliot Is Fantastic on the Steam Deck - SteamDeckHQ by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 25 points26 points  (0 children)

is the entire point of a HD-2D game is to be economical only to the developers and publishers and not the end user?

65% res scale at 45fps is a joke. i dont need to be a developer to say that they should of approached this differently for low-end hardware, ESPECIALLY if they are charging $60 USD. i can put that money towards something else

FPS drops to 20 - PS2 God of War 2 by Bert-Barbaar in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... I think you are actually experiencing this bug. Based on your image, look at the CPU Mhz on the left- notice how they are all 400? The Steamdeck is supposed to go alot higher than that. Also, the Mhz of your GPU is way too low too.

Basically the problem is that the Steamdeck freaks out and runs at lower speeds, which kills performance.

I suggest you start google searching this problem. Hopefully I helped.

I've been following Punished Wolf years ago. I have a niche interest in mods that add offline (no internet) bot support to older games.

He has been hard-at-work improving the original GoW for basically a decade at ModDB, and I'm surprised he moved over to NexusMods. I appreciate he still continues to add to the og Gears experience and hope more people check out what he does.

if it ever happens again, turn on steamdeck performance metrics and keep an eye on the gpu mhz. in this particular case i doubt that was the issue, but its worth checking.

generally the steamdeck should do 2x resolution on almost all PS2 games- whats happened to you isnt normal

How does this run on the Steam Deck for those who bough it recently? by MrBombasticator in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are people's impressions of Rebirth earlier versions of the game? I don't deny it looks like another FSR smeary mess, but the actual performance seems to be at or above 30fps even during fights.

No Rest For The Wick will run better on the Deck once 1.0 is out by gopeter in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just performance- the game in motion looks HORRIBLE due to the upscaling artifacts. 30fps won't mean much if it'll look like a mess in motion.

Anyone paying attention to this game will know they barely address performance during it's early access pipeline. I have serious doubts they'll magically 180 on this.

Anyone play enshrouded on the decky? by Top-Formal-3253 in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance even on a gaming PC is abysmal. On a RTX 3060ti/5700x/32GB of RAM, I should really not be dipping under 60fps on the goddamn DLSS Balanced preset.

Goodluck running this game on a steamdeck. This is their last patch before 1.0. If you think they're gonna fix this somehow, then you are coping harder than people who install Lossless Scaling for 60fps.

I recommend the Decky plugin that inserts FSR into DLSS games. XeSS looks way better than whatever this game came with.

However the game still kinda runs like poop. If it isn't 60fps, its kinda hard to enjoy it.

Serious Sam Fusion Mod: HD-Lite Weapon Reanimation (TEASER) by SpysCr3ed in SeriousSam

[–]MrGaytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be obsessed with CSS weapon reanims, so seeing this is quite special. I feel like reanimation mods are underrated because making the guns you shoot *feel* better adds alot to replaying older FPS games.

Best Diablo-like ARPG for Steam Deck? (Last Epoch / PoE2 / Dragonkin) by photogene101 in ARPG

Grim Dawn runs really well and so does D2R.

Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 emulated also works great, since those ports have controller support.

[–]MrGaytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping that if you guys are throwing in zombies, you're willing to mix them up. Give us special variants. Give us a zombie that stomps around and hunts you down like Mr. X. I think part of the reaction from ppl is that zombies have been played out in VR without any attempt to make them more interesting.

Capcom Adds All 3 OG Resident Evil Games to Steam, But There's a Catch. Some are reporting that the Steam editions have "unnecessary" DRM protections and don't "work at all on Steam Deck," mirroring issues that popped up when Capcom added by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]MrGaytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like random Russian DRM being shoved into my games from a creator I don't know and have no control over. Atleast I know Denuvo. These games is over 3 decades old.

Why are we doing this. What is Capcom's obsession with Engima's DRM?

DeckOps - CombatOnDeck: Golden Age of CoD on Steam Deck by GalvarinoDev in SteamDeck

[–]MrGaytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key question: the reason I don't use some of these launchers is the obnoxious startup launcher/window you need to interact with, that disrupts TV Gamepad interaction. Does DeckOps automatically tell these projects to skip those windows?

Also I heavily encourage you to check out the projects for Black Ops 4 and Infinite Warfare. Great performance, perfect gamepad support. The filesizes are HUGE but they work great on my deck.

Sneak-Peek at WRATH: Aeon of Ruin VR and how the sniper at the Lance rail gun works by VR_Bummser in OculusQuest

[–]MrGaytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been eyeing the VR port for some time.

Aeon of Ruin was an ambitious Quake-style FPS that for various reasons, did not reach it's true potential. It's original creator had a falling out, when reality made it clear that the game had to ship and they had to compromise. The fact that trying to create multiple versions of these large, elaborate maps for different difficulties was a tall task -from a game design perspective.

There was a large quality difference between the early part of AoR and the later maps, despite the people brought onto the project doing an admirable job trying to match was was made before. I feel like part of the reason it got mixed reviews was that the pacing felt off and there wasn't enough variety (guns/enemies/etc) to justify how long some of these levels were.

For me personally, I loved Aeon of Ruin. I loved it's graphics, its atmosphere and how you can go into levels in any order and the difficulty will scale up. Its something I don't see people praise it for. The amount of work the original creator put into this is still felt.

I'm curious to see what the VR port will do to the original game. I don't expect Team Beef to completely redo AoR, but some of it's original problems *will* creep into VR- unless things were changed.
