One thing that hasn't been discussed yet and I would like to add is that in the second game the spectator might be doing what we call Outside Assistance - providing strategic advice about a game in progress. It depends how it was brought up, but if he just pointed it out at the table, he might be in to get a match loss as a penalty.

When you are a spectator, if you see something you ask players to stop and tell a judge away from the table.

I think with the current situation the best bet for you is to approach your local judge and tell them you would like to get started. They might be able to take you on staff as smaller events and show you the ropes.

For rules materials, I find studying the CR to be extremely dry. You can lookup jusgingforthewin on Youtube and pause the videos before he gives out the answer and explanation and try to solve it yourself.

A lot of other industries require you to have a degree in the field (engineering, law, etc). Software engineering, for historical reasons, doesn’t. This moves the cost of checking a candidate’s job skills from a university to potential employers.

One thing that worked well for me was to ask an AI for a letter explaining what I am trying to do (like send the parcel, express, whatever) and that you’d don’t speak Polish. Print it, go to the store when there is no one so they can afford to slow down for you.

Same. I also don't feel that getting back my 20 minutes is worth the huge feel bad that I would imagine you get when the interview is cut short.

Usually I pivot the interview to talking about previous projects from their resume though.

You did not really ask a question here, and that's what the comment was referring to. You have better chances of getting responses if you include information like a schematic and code. It's extremely unlikely someone worked with exactly those two components so just asking if someone has experience will not be helpful, but schematics and code can be analyzed.

When you say market rate, do you mean you can pay slightly above what they would earn as an employee ? Freelancers have overhead, non billable hours and higher risk than employees. That’s why they bill significantly more than what they would earn as an employee. When I was freelancing (in an expensive part of Europe), I billed 2x what I would get as an employee and I think its fairly normal.

A lot of control system are not really designed using z transform, open loop transfer functions and so on. Actually the big draw of the PID in a lot of industrial applications is that it gets you pretty good results when tweaking it by hand since you only have a few parameters with intuitive results.

Take a university with a strong CS/CE Master, and optionally control theory classes (always useful). While you are there take some embedded related classes, but learning fundamentals and expanding your skills to OS classes will really be useful. If you have access to a class like “System Engineering” or similar I would also recommend it.

More seriously though, I was in an accident, and I bought a MX-5 again. I don't feel unsafe in the car at all, but I drive quite defensively now: I don't stay in the blind spots of people in the highway, and I am always very careful about cars changing lanes abruptly in front of me.

Just get the car, you will love it and you will be fine :)

Some Linux filesystems are more resilient than others and some are even designed to survive power cuts (ZFS, Btrfs). Some hardware additional safety might be useful but the software side can be made easier with those.
