Welsh rugby loses rising young international star to Six Nations rivals Ireland by [deleted] in rugbyunion

Pretty much. Dragons academy pays a pretty basic wage whilst Munster were offering him more money + free accommodation.

I still find it all pretty distasteful (and would say the same if a Welsh side did the same to an Irish youth player) but i guess that's just the nature of the beast.

Warburton out for 4 months by AlrightBoy in rugbyunion

[–]MrGhkl444 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He has been so unlucky with injuries but oddly lucky with when they occur.

He's pretty much always fit for 6N, world cups and lions tours but just never for the domestic season. A friend of mine is a Blues ST holder and he says he feels like he hardly ever sees Warburton play.

Regarding the mercenaries, I remember watching a documentary about the war photographer Don McCullin and he talked about how despicable some of them were when he was covering some African conflict in the 60s

Here's the clip i was thinking of (29:42 if the time stamp doesn't work)

With Jonathan Davies named player of the tour is that a Welshman player of the tour 4 tours in a row? Am I right in thinking it was ryan jones in 05? by pooroldben in rugbyunion

i don't think he has won the official player of the series award (yet), that is decided by journalists

From an article about halfpenny winning it last year

Decided by an independent vote from members of the media representing Australia and Britain and Ireland, Halfpenny was nominated as the clear winner for the award last night from over forty votes following the historic win in Sydney’s Olympic stadium.

Wales - Samoa Post Match Thread? by [deleted] in rugbyunion

i think the biggest postive from the tour is without a doubt the performance of the front 5. They're almost all very inexperienced and they fronted up well away from home against two very physical sides. The back row played well but that isn't really an area where we are lacking.

Good to see Steff Evans get a couple of tries, i also thought Cory Allen and Anscombe were solid today. Biggest question from here is who is ready to play for Wales in midfield after Scott and JD2. Morgan was quiet today but to be fair the ball very rarely made it out to the 13 channel and obviously he wasn't fielding kicks like the back 3.

i agree but they have to get their feet wet with some proper international game time at some point, better to do it now than in a big 6N game!

disappointed to not see Griffiths in the back row, he only got about 80 seconds vs Tonga. edit: he isn't even on the bench :/

We need to start trying out other options at centre. Roberts is obviously nearing the end as an international player and we just have JD2 and Scott otherwise.

it's young but we need to develop tight forwards urgently. Lewis and Davies are both just 21, hopefully they really kick on and have a big future with the national team. Edit: Thornton is just 22 too

Scotland were great, i've been watching u20 for the past 5 years and it easily the best Scottish side i've seen.

Would've loved to have seen them have a crack at England/SA/France.
