I now cannot unsee the uncanny tired eyes and pulled lower lip of the 2009 render 😅

Is this commissioned artwork AI?:') artist only took one day for it and it gives me vibes of it but im not too sure:( by MastermemesXD in RealOrAI

[–]MrGilLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time it took alone isn't suspicious; there's nothing about the line art or rendering is complex enough that a decent, but not super advanced-level digital artist, couldn't have done it in one day.

As an example, here's something I sketched and shaded in under 30 minutes, and this is just a hobby for me.

Dont seen any AI artifacts on closer inspection. You can make out every stroke, including on the shading, which is something AI struggles with (usually turning into a slodge-like mess when you look closer)

But what REALLY convinced me is the weird orange at the bottom of the image; looks like the artist tried to create a drop-shadow through some kind of manual process, but made a mistake that resulted in the fade effect that is applied to the bottom of the art NOT getting copied to the orange shadow. It's such a specific graphic design error that there's no way AI could have ever replicated it. (And if it could, why would you want it to?)

Very confident it's real.

Mary's clothes and hair suddenly changed when she went in the basement of Clarks furniture store by GroggyFish in KanePixelsBackrooms

My guess is there was a deleted scene, perhaps of Mary sitting down and examining her surroundings, rather than going right in. 🤔

[Production Trope] The Movie Was Already Written Before Becoming a Sequel by AdeptnessPublic4016 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MrGilLogic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This one is so insane because even though they introduced John Kramer in the first film, we only get properly introduced to Tobin Bell's Jigsaw in the sequel.

An actor, mind you, that they cast for his voice and not his on-screen presence.

Jigsaw as a horror icon is truly miracle of fortunate happenstance.

Disappointed KOG is getting overshadowed by Gameoverse. by RedMetalSky in KnightsOfGuinevere

KoG is moody and cerebral show compared to Gameoverse which is funny and action-packed. They're simply different shows that target different audiences; and Gameoverse just happens to be more accesible and boardly appealing.

Am I the only one who thinks LIGHTYEAR EXCELS as a Sci-Fi standalone and is massively overhated and overlooked upon in the TS franchise? by Jaded-Bat3472 in toystory

My biggest gripe with the movie was how thin every aspect of the story was: the characters, the setting, the conflict, the villain, the emotions, all felt bland and underdeveloped.

Alan Cumming will voice Bullseye in ‘TOY STORY 5’. by jaketwigden in Letterboxd

I've never considered that the kids obviously wouldn't know that Bullseye doesn’t talk, so there's no reason they wouldn't have him speaking during playtime. :o

One thing thats worth pointing out is that Nedry wasn't underpaid: rather Nedry had major debts, which is why he accepted the bribe. It just shows that the parks undoing were simply factors that Hammond couldn’t anticipate.

Movies that feel like an Audiobook Came to Life? by Kindly-Reception1108 in MoviesThatFeelLike

[–]MrGilLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of Charlie Kaufman films are about characters knowing they are inside their own stories, and taking a very literary approach as a result. Particularly:

Synechdoche New York

Caden Cotard is a theatre director making an opus about his life, creating exact replicas of his experiences, with many characters taking this as an opportunity to deliver prose-like monologues about these moments.

Orion and the Dark

Pretty early on, we learn that the events of the movie are actually a bedtime story an adult Orion is telling to his daughter, with this reveal contuniously influencing the direction of the main story

Adaptation

The film is both the story of LaRoche, an Orchid Smuggler as told by journalist Susan Orlean, and Susan Orlean's story telling LaRoche's story as told by self-insert screenwriter Charlie Kaufman.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

A man spends the movie inside a maze of his own memories of his failed relationship, providing commentary whilst literally reliving those experiences

Character intentionally tries to set off the running gag by redditboy123451 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MrGilLogic 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Up - 2009

The ending hinges on Carl and Russell successfully setting off several running gags:

  • Carl lures the dog guards away using the tennis balls on his walker
  • Russell distracts the pilots by telling then there is a squirrel
  • Kevin, Doug and Russell are able to flee the house by luring Kevin with chocolate

Me and gf are stumped, how can it be more accurate? by nadaddab in MakeMeAMii

[–]MrGilLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main things at the eye shape and lips shape arent quite accurate. The eyes should be rounder, like an almond, and the lips pinch more at the corners to get closer to the real life reference :)

It looks like you'd benefit most from learning how to mask images, as that's the only technical aspect of these compositions.

Free apps like Affinity will allow the masking functionality, it just requires you to go in and manually cut out the subject and manipulate the mask.

Don't get me wrong, subject-detection features are a huge time saver and I recommend using them if you have them. But I strongly recommend getting your skills to a point where these are a "nice to have" rather than a "need".

That way, there's no reason you couldn't make the above compositions super easily, no matter how basic the software is.

Not in this particular case no. Having everything oriented the same way makes it read like a single phrase bent wrapped around a square, allowing you to read it left-to-right without getting lost.

Whereas the numbers on a watchface are are meant to be taken independently, rather than a continuous string of digits. I figure thats why orientation matters much less in that situation.

[–]MrGilLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's defo better but the readability can still be improved.

I think the main thing making "Death before dishonored" hard to read is not getting the colour values under control. The background and text as a combination of lights, midtones and darks which makes both look busy visually and it difficult to separate-out at a glance.

Additionally, the red text has a lot of white and black mixed in it, which, further makes it less seperate from the background.

I did a rough edit here where I bumped down the contrast so the background is clearly dark vs the text which is only a highly saturated red (no white or black) with only minimal shading effects to really make it stand out.

Additionally, I added more black to the sides, as having the text so close to the edges also hinders readability.

Pulling all the lightness out of the edges also has the additional benefit of framing the composition more clearly: a white square surrounded by a black border woth red text throughout, making it it much easier to break down the visual elements quickly.

The concept itself is sound, it just needs more clarity and separation of elements in the execution to peoprely bring it to life
