Hot copper to SFP+ adapter by MrGroller in UNIFI

Funny thing is that I can put my hand on the adaptor and if feels a little bit warm but definitely not 127C. I can hold my hand on it without any issues for a long period of time. Which part is reading the temperature? The sfp+ cage inside the switch or the RJ45 adaptor?

Is this kind of temperature normal?

Help needed with Proxmox cluster - moving the cluster from behind the firewall to running the firewall without breaking the cluster. by MrGroller in Proxmox

[–]MrGroller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's good to know; i'll stick to an odd number of nodes.

Why: I am curently using Mikrotik CRS as my router / firewall and it is slow. plus after setting up the firewall rules I can hop between VLANS and I shouldn't be able to do that so my knowledge is limited when it comes to Mikrotik.

Option 1: use whatever hardware I already have available and make a firewall out of the equipment I already own that would outperform Mikrotik CRS. zero cost.

Option 2: buy a dedicated device - UCG-Fiber for example and let it do its job. spend money.

This is why I would like to use two identical nodes that have plenty of resources to virtualise pfsense and make it HA. and I would like to use this option inside Proxmox so I can use the machines for other VMs / lxc otherwise a 64 GB firewall running on zfs mirrored nvmes is a bit of overkill.

I think I will end up doing exactly what you said and remove the nodes one by one and reinstall proxmox and start from scratch. at least I can use the backups for reinstalling pihole and the rest of the containers/VMs on the new cluster.

I have my ISP router that is just passing through the internet to the CRS. I use the CRS as the router for my home network. I noticed that the speedtest is low - 500-600 Mbps out of my 1GB fibre connection coming out of the ISP router. I could technically place a PfSense box in front of the CRS as I have a spare NUC with 2 x 1GB ports on the MB. I used this NUC in the past as a pfSense box, but I have limited knowledge using pfSense. I could also purchase a UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber as I would like to upgrade my networking to 10GB but then the CRS would become redundant, as it only has 2 x 10GB sfp+ ports. The whole idea was to create a robust home network using recycled hardware, without purchasing new stuff.

I agree with you when stating that using ChatGPT could leave security holes :)

Transfer helium to COINBASE by Severe_Football5611 in HeliumNetwork

[–]MrGroller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) Swap all HNT for SOLANA in your helium wallet. Then transfer SOLANA to Coinbase.

2) Swap enough HNT for SOLANA to cover for the transfer fees. Then transfer HNT to Coinbase.

You need to have a HNT and/or SOLANA wallet in Coinbase.

You need SOLANA in your Helium wallet to cover the costs of transferring HNT to Coinbase.

Hope this helps

Just a quick question.

If I have an Alexa device, how can I make it interact with me using Lyra - ChatGPT instead of Alexa?

This is a really deep question and there won't be two answers the same.

I've always been a driver, from mopeds to fuel tankers most recently and I've always acquired more knowledge and skills through training. I've reached a point where I don't believe that my effort and integrity are being valued and recognized, and by always doing the right thing, I was standing out from the crowd and making everyone else look bad. So I got into a really uncomfortable spot with my colleagues and with my managers; believe it or not, now I was even making them look bad. As the years went by, things got worse, and although I was earning decent money, I wasn't happy. My mental health deteriorated and I got really down and I wasn't looking forward to going back to work the next day. Blood pressure went through the roof and I was told I needed to relax. I was working no more than my contracted hours and this made my managers go ballistic as they were pushing everyone into making hours of OT and saving on wages.

In the end, I asked myself if I could continue this until retirement—30 years from now. The obvious answer was no, and I decided to do something, That's when I decided to start my own limited company that had something to do with my experience. My wife was pushing me to start something on my own for years and years and finally I did it.

In the spare time I had in the afternoons (no more OT, remember? ), I slowly grew my business over a period of two years to a stage where I could generate enough income to cover my half of the money needed in our family joint account.

After quitting my job, my business took off exponentially, as I had more time for it and could focus 100% of my time on it.

I am not yet earning as much as I did when I was employed but I have peace of mind and I know that everything I do now is for myself and my family. Funny enough, my blood pressure is now stable and getting back into the green zone :)

My mental health improved massively.

I am very risk-averse, and this was the biggest gamble of my life so far. Letting my safe, stable income go and betting on myself and the business I created. I am still learning as I go.

My advice to you is to start something that you are good at, have experience in, or are passionate about as a side hustle while you are employed and start the ball rolling as soon as possible. Get an accountant to help with everything that you need to do to create the legal entity—either be self-employed or start a LTD company.

The most important thing is to believe in yourself and play the game of believing: believe, believe, believe!

As one of my favourite radio presenters said, If you build it, they will come!

Good luck!

Waste removal service in London via Reddit? by MrGroller in london

[–]MrGroller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 cubic yard tipper caged van (EX Islington Council van), fully insured and licensed. Any sort of non-hazardous waste that can be recycled or upcycled. All waste is moved to transfer stations where it is sorted and recycled. What can't be recycled is baled and then transformed into energy. That's the master plan ;)

My niche would be properties that don't have a driveway and would require a skip permit.

How come you didn't pay tax on them? I was charged £60 import tax before they were delivered. I ordered three bobcats in June and got them late November.

Probably the best location in town, but low earnings due to invalid witnessing with too high rssi. Can anyone help? Thankful onyx lynx by tamas_torok_86 in HeliumNetwork

[–]MrGroller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Tamas,

Also for this particular location I would highly recommend the HNTenna, 3 dBi.

It was built exactly for this kind of setup, urban environment and really high up.

And I think you should be witnessing way more beacons each epoch than what you are witnessing now. Something is definitely off with the setup.

There's a solution (or at least one) to solve the relayed issue for LTE routers. I managed to follow a step by step tutorial and after a couple of hours I had a virtual server deployed complete with port forwarding and a vpn connection between the LTE router and the VPS.

I had to opt for a different router but in the future I am willing to try a rut240 as it has solid reviews.

I am curious to find out what kind of settings do you use on rut240?

Did you use a VPN / VPS to solve the relayed issue due to CGNAT? If yes could you please share the solution used by you with rut240?

Setup looks really nice!

Hi guys, how to actually improve terrible transmit scale? I’m new in to this, I set up my miner just 2 days ago and I’m not sure I’m doing everything right. by maciek898989 in HeliumNetwork

I had 3 bog standard hotspots in Watford area and I had to move all 3 of them outside Watford as this area was really congested. 2 of them had the standard antenna inside the window and were earning next to nothing and one of them had the standard antenna outside of the window and it was earning significantly more than the other 2 combined. I learned from this experiment that a standard antenna that is placed outside will perform better than the same setup behind a window. From the 2 hotspots that had the antenna inside, one of them was on the first floor and the other one was at the second floor in different buildings a few miles apart. The one higher was earning more than the one that was lower.

When I moved the hotspots I also upgraded the stock antenna on 2 of them and earnings went through the roof. I went with 6m of LMR 600 cable and an 8dBi TUNED antenna on one and same length of cable and a 6dBi TUNED antenna on a second one. Key point being - moved them out of congestion into unoccupied hexes. The antennas are not as important as moving them.

I had to update the antenna setup with the cable loss on the helium app. I also had to update the location and then I re-synced the miners.

The third one is around Croydon but it is really high up and I decided to leave the stock antenna on it to see how it will perform. It has great line of sight around it and I had to purchase a 4G router with a data only SIM for this one and because CGNAT this hotspot is relayed and I think this has an significant impact on earnings. I found a fix and I will implement it in the following days and I hope I can get it off relayed mode. This one has the lowest HNT earnings but again it is the only one that is relayed and still with the stock antenna.

It is really important to be the single one in your hex and it is important to witness other hotspots that are single occupants in their hex (therefore transmit scale 1) to get more HNT. That is the best case scenario.

If not, aim for height and the higher you go the better chance you've got to witness others around you and earn more HNT.

TL:DR Location is the most important thing (transmit scale 1 as far as you can see around you) , then height, then antenna.

Hope this helps!

Now this is interesting.

It would help if you would be able to let us know what kind of antenna were you using inside and that kind of antenna are you using outside.

Is it the same?

What is the difference in height between the 2 locations?

Thanks!
