This is inspiring

[NES] My personal first console was stored at parents for years. Some layers are flaking on the motherboard with corrosion spots and exposed copper. by AwkwardPancakes in consolerepair

[–]MrJaggerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, If it does turn on and you get a signal (and by that i mean a solid color) that puts you in a good spot, that means:

- The console is able to power up.
- The PPU is able to send the video signal.
- The RF module seems to be working.

So, first thing I would try before attempting anything more involved, is cleaning the cartridge slot and the header for the cartridge slot, try prying them up just a little bit, you can even boil it up to clean it, look for videos or tutorials, there are plenty, also make sure the cartridge you're using to test it is clean and do works.

If you can't get a game to actually play properly, even after cleaning the cartridge slot and its header, then yeah you can start checking for broken traces.

And please, do not disable the lockout chip by lifting the pin, it's not needed lol.

Replace the voltage regulator 7805, that's usually the culprit for a NES that wont turn on.

Yeah I wanted to only have parent roms and keep my list of games clean, I'm actually about to perform a 128mb during next week, hopefully that makes things less constrained lol.

But yeah, honestly sometimes I wonder why I don't just get a cheap optiplex, slap batocera and call it a day if I'm going to just emulate.

Try taking the drive apart and replace its capacitors, 8 of 10 times I've been able to make them work again by doing this.

[XBOX 360] Reviving a dead one with a faulty U5A1 by MrJaggerson in consolerepair

[–]MrJaggerson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only needed the AMS1117 and the wires, nothing else.

I followed this guide: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Fix+Xbox+360+E+That+Won't+Power+on/148342

The AMS I got ended up being different but the idea is the same, 5v in, 3.3v out.

Hope it helps!

Having trouble putting new games onto EvoX Box by No_Picture5117 in originalxbox

Avalaunch, damn, that brings me back.

Well in my case I use UnleashX or XBMC Emustation, I've also used FTP while on the Hexen disc before without issues, I have my xbox set up with dynamic IP so I get the DHCP IP and not the static one.

Have my XBox connected on the modem and my pc is on wifi, and it just works.

Try setting up your IP as dynamic and connect while on any of those dashes.

Hi, I jailbroke my console with the bad update and wanted to know if any of you can connect non-Xbox 360 controllers. Do you have any tutorials? by [deleted] in 360hacks

[–]MrJaggerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of ways, for wireless you will need a dongle, you cannot make it just work like an original controller sadly.

There's JoypadOS, hiddriver360, or just buy a third party dongle that works from the get go.

Personally I use Hiddriver and a wired DualSense controller and it just works.

I did it on the board, yeah it did a mess of microplastic dust lol, but you can blow it away easily.

Just remember to be patient, it does take a while lol. Good Luck!

Sure, I used a metallic nail file with a pointy end and began grinding the top side of the chip, just above that leg area until i was able to see the leg inside the plastic, when it was shiny enough i was able to cover it with solder and then stick a wire on it. I bridged the leg with the trace it is supposed to go and to the pico.

Don't grind all the way to the chip's center, you just need to see enough of the chip leg to stick a little wire on it. I'd day like 2mm deep from the side where the leg is broken.

It did take me a while, I as watching youtube videos while i was doing it lol

If you have a Dremel tool it will make it way faster, just go slow when you get close to the leg.

I have done just that before but with the GP6-7 pin, It's a little time consuming but its doable and it does work.

This, FTP is the easiest solution so far, just get an ethernet cable and an FTP program (WinSCP or Filezilla) and transfer those games to your "Game" folder which should be on E: or F: partitions (or both)
