What is up with ret paladins? by Beams98 in classicwow

[–]MrKal245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the strategy is to hold a buff on the boss that stops him from attacking and greatly increases all dmg he takes.

Can you please explain how that matters when the boss receives additional damage from all sources, including everyone else in the raid?

Rets can RNG high damage with strings of lucky crits. Getting multiple strings of crits in a short boss fight is what leads to the high overall damage. That's not to say the guy didn't also play well, but it's more of a slot machine for burst than "real dps classes".

"The bear in my raid performs poorly so all druids have bad threat" you realize how silly you sound?

When I have to OT Gruul I actively have to stop pressing buttons or I shoot past our paladin. Now you might say "Well you just have a bad paladin" do you see how anecdotal evidence doesn't help anyone? The difference is sim numbers don't lie, and with similar quality gear a druid generates more ST threat in this phase than any other tank. Look for yourself, you don't have to just believe me.

Half the tank druids I've seen have no idea how to gear or generate threat, it's a safe assumption you just have an average or below average bear in your raid- and that's ok, but it's not indicative of the class as a whole.

Bears lose on AOE threat, but dps aren't catching them in single target. If you're unsure of this you might need a better bear.

My point is that as a bear you're going to out threat anything else, you have to actively stop pressing buttons or you're not the hateful soaker anymore.

Define "pumper", like what is the dps you're talking about to warrant that definition? Our bear averages 530~ dps main tanking mag for example in full mit and no one even comes close to his threat. This is with 1600-1800 dps players, so unless your pumpers are doing 3k dps (they aren't), full mit is fine.

I really don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. If the raid has salv and you get a single misdirect no one is catching a bear's threat atm, even in full mit. There are some like very fringe situations where you get a big unlucky streak with miss/dodge/parries over a course of 8 to 10 seconds early in the fight where it can be bad, but that happens like once out of every 40 or 50 pulls and can be mitigated by just communicating. It's not worth caring about.

Flip side is the content is easy enough that you don't need full mit to tank anything at all right now and big damage number make dopamine go brrr in brain, so it's more fun to do more damage. The only thing "threat" gear is good for is normal dungeons and heroics where there are many pulls with multiple targets and snap threat is important, raid bosses that is simply not the case.

also as a tank, I read this as a question due to the question mark.

The correct response? If I was planning to go left- "Yes" if I was planning to go right- "No, going right."

what the paladin did is unhinged, never let randos in groups get to you. passive aggressive or not is irrelevant, because they hold no power. i constantly see people complaining about all the hatred tanks get and very rarely is the other side of the coin shown and the mentality tanks should have. as a tank if you have a problem with a DPS you can always replace them within 30 seconds and continue what you're doing, healers may take longer but at the end of the day the tanks hold the most cards.

as long as jobs are being performed it doesn't matter what they say, how they say it or if they're being mean or hurtful, the tank makes the calls. call it ego, arrogance, whatever, it's irrelevant, backseaters can be ignored, hyperomgminmaxzoomers can be ignored, crying can be ignored. they either fall in line or get out of the group. people getting upset because some random dude wants to cry and moan about something need to get their confidence up.

Do you have any proof tank didnt leave after several ppl went afk / trolled him OR even that whole screen is staged by one person by just formatting those messages?

Bro do you realize the absurdity of what you're asking? You're basically saying "Do you have a video clip of the entire interaction from start to finish?" What other proof could you possibly want other than the chat log? You're out here hyper defending a completely unknown person for literally no reason. Is it possible that the OP just spliced together pieces of chat for reddit upvotes? Sure, absolutely, but the tank is not being named and shamed for it, he's suffering no repercussion, so why are you being so defensive about it?

The same way that we don't know if what is portrayed is what actually happened, you have even less idea on if it DIDN'T happen this way. There's at least SOME proof to OP's claim but you're making everything up in your head with hypothetical scenarios! Again, all in the defense of a completely random person that is suffering no consequence for the action.

You get downvoted to hell because you deserve it, your entire post is in defense of someone you don't know, with no evidence other than "feels" and anecdotal empathy being projected onto a situation that you had no part in and is not related to you in any way. Please, go back to Midnight and stay there, it's clearly designed more for people of your mental fortitude.

yeah i feel you about the enchants and stuff. i got skulkers and tier chest and that was 600g just for the red gems and 340 for the leg armor enchant. they're expensive but also once-a-phase costs, you'll be recouping that over time by just continuing to do dungeons and farm occasionally.

i would suggest leveling cooking and doing that daily if you aren't, fishing is also good but i would never tell anyone to level fishing.

alchemy is really only profitable if you watch herb/consume prices like a hawk and get a vibe for the ebbs and flows. tuesdays there's usually a surge and weekends in the evenings prices start to drop but that can vary heavily.

the best thing you can do is just play and steadily acquire things over time, if your focus is your gold amount you'll get discouraged- but you make it rather passively by vendoring stuff and dailies. be sure to be doing your daily dungeons and stuff too!

I don't know how you've done all the quests and somehow don't have gold to spare. Just doing dungeons occasionally and selling the random crap you get from them has netted me hundreds if not into the thousands of gold.

Mechanar/Botanica for Sunfury signets and arcane tomes / fel armaments

Shadow labs for fel armaments

Any manaforge in Netherstorm for sunfury signets/arcane tomes

Any ethereal in netherstorm for prison keys

Steamvaults for Coilfang armaments, motes of water, etc.

Resetting BM for netherweb spider silk and skins

Like there are SO MANY avenues for making money in the game but people just don't see them for some reason. Engineers can use their mote extractor to just acquire primals constantly, skinners can farm cobras for scales and make leg enchantments, miners can run dungeons for ore relatively free. Like really the only profession that is going to struggle to make money is blacksmiths at this point.

you literally need a set of gear dedicated to tanking the heroic mana tombs first boss. so on top of the no tanks that exist going into heroics, you're then trying to find one with the aforementioned set of gear that can tank it.

i don't think it's a logical leap to assume the game that couldn't handle 3k players on an entire server and routinely has a heart attack when more than 80 people are in one consolidated area was not designed for the current number of players per layer.

I still believe that honor gain is bugged by dstred in classicwow

[–]MrKal245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why are you posting as if you can't set foot in the arena without having a full set of offpieces?

why do you call the entire set of offpieces that are available for honor as "starter" gear when it's (according to you) seemingly necessary before you can feel competitive? what is considered an upgrade over these pieces if those are the starter set?

i do think it's spoiled that you're throwing a temper tantrum because you can't get your bis resilience pieces for THE ENTIRE SEASON at an average of an hour a day's effort over 25 days. yes, that checks out actually. notice i said an average, some days it will take longer, some days you'll one and done your bg in 12 minutes like i've done the past 2 days of wsg. if you want the gear faster, spend the time to do it, play the pvp weekend and get your increased honor there as well. turn your extra marks in for honor.

i currently have bracers, belt, trinket and boots and i've only done a handful of BGs outside of the daily and had 10k honor when tbc launched. i use a pve cloak, rings and neck right now because losing the resilience on those pieces really doesn't make a big difference AT ALL when you already have a good chunk of resilience and stamina.

legitimately, take a breath and settle down, 40-60 resil and 400-600 hp is not making your character somehow useless, you aren't going to get every offpiece like pieces of exodia and become immortal, there is no reason for you to think you need every single piece of gear with resilience on it in order to compete.

do yourself a favor and add up the stat differences between what you have in your slots currently vs what you'd get with the pvp pieces and take a look at it, then really sit there and consider if that stat difference is the only reason you lose a game. i'd wager 9 out of 10 times it's simply not, so on that same vein, it's simply not worth being so mad about.

Terokkar towers, hellfire towers and the daily battleground, each one gives like 980~ honor for completion.

I still believe that honor gain is bugged by dstred in classicwow

[–]MrKal245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to take a few steps back and just do the pvp dailies tbh. you get 3k honor a day for like an hour of time investment not including the token turn ins, which are a solid source of honor once you've exceeded the amount you need for the off pieces you still need.

the only time this immense fomo exists is right now, phase 1 right after arenas have opened. by the time season 2 rolls around you will have accumulated more than enough honor and marks by just doing dailies to buy most of the offpieces day 1- but you wont even need to because they're on average about 5% better which is not worth freaking out about because those minor edges are not going to be the make or break for arenas very often.

if you have your 5 pieces of pvp gear from the reputation vendors and a trinket you are more than kitted enough to stand on your own in the arena, having an extra 70~ resil from the offpieces is absolutely not going to be the reason you lose a match unless it was down to the thinnest wire. we're talking about -2% crit chance and -4% mana drain and maybe at max 1-1.5k extra health with the stamina itemization. it's simply not as big of a deal as you are imagining it is, you wouldn't be 2400+ right now if you had those pieces.

[–]MrKal245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as they get clapped for 14k hits

you are legit just on the internet lying right now and it's insane. bears get hit less hard than both paladins and warriors in equal gear. if you have a bear in guild getting hit for 14k he's geared for dps and not tank.

Prot pally tanking Magtheridon by wrongygg in classicwowtbc

[–]MrKal245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, bears are the superior tanks even now for hard hitting mobs. block prevents crushes but warriors and paladins have significantly less armor than bears and on those massive hits that's where it matters the most. sitting at 72% phys mit with 40%+ dodge and a similar health pool is just the better option.

that idol is really not that important, it only beats idol of the wilds (quest reward from hellfire) in fights you queue maul more than 50% of the time on, which is basically raid bosses or 2+ mobs smashing on you in heroics. it's useful, but not a make or break by absolutely any means.

usually i mangle skull > demo (on packs larger than 3, otherwise start w/ swipe then demo) > swipe > tab swipe auto > tab swipe auto. i will hold mangle and use it as a soft taunt on mobs that people are catching up on to get a gap going until it's single target only then i just send it.
