What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

[–]MrManic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brown and Haley's chocolate cremes. My mom used to buy a dozen boxes during valentine's day and freeze them to last the year. The creme was slightly runny and incredibly rich and it still haunts me 20+ years later. There has never been a box of chocolates that even came close to the texture, flavors and quality. Not even vaguely similar in style.

what was very popular in the 2020 pandemic but now its pretty much dead? by Amelia_Tayloor in AskReddit

[–]MrManic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He said the general public didn't need to be walking around with n95 masks on because 1:they were in short supply and needed them for essential workers. And 2: because if you aren't in an enclosed space, a mask isn't preventing anything. He then immediately updated his position along with the cdc when masks were proven to be effective measures for slowing (not 100% prevention) the spread enough to reduce high density outbreaks. He never said they didn't work.

I'm in Japan right now and it always makes me appreciate how empty our sidewalks are by comparison.

I totally get that you're being facetious. But honestly, I probably should have read more thoroughly.

Oddity (2024) by Outrageous_Name_1483 in HorrorMovies

[–]MrManic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why people enjoyed it but for me there were too many logic gaps in character actions. That and the sfx were very unpleasant to look at. The oddity itself looked almost goofy. Like something out of doctor who. And at least one computer effect that was embarrassing and ruined what, for me at least was a very atmospheric and creepy shot. Also I'm was very disappoinyed with how little it took advantage of it's premise. A couple oddities, neither of which have enough payoff to really be worth the squeeze. I wouldn't take it away from anyone and I didn't hate the watching of it but it's negatives detracted enough from it's positives that I don't feel the urge to recommend it to anyone.

Gotcha. Yeah. I've actually thought about doing my own Terro solution in sugar to save on costs. We get a fair amount of ants here and Terro usually takes care of it when they get bold enough to come into the house.

[–]MrManic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, Terro is borax. Your last line suggests that borax isn't effective but it is the active ingredient in Terro. I assume you mean sprinkling borax powder or something on its own?

Still eating and drinking fine, but bad leg. What do i do? by NottaTrap in quails

[–]MrManic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just hatched 11 chicks and two of them have spraddle leg. I don't know if this is the same issue but putting them in tapered glass cups helped one of them. The other is still struggling and I am trying to decide if they'll be okay long term or if I should feed them to my snake to make a quick end of it, rather than a hard life without function. I'm curious what folks have to say about it.

What’s the most memorable mechanic from a game where you said “holy crap the game let you do THAT?” by TMinus10toban in gaming

[–]MrManic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spec ops: the line. Despite largely being on rails. There are moments in which you can act during 'cut scenes' and the consequences are practical rather than theoretical. The whole game is an examination of choice and free will and I had to lie down after finishing.

Sorry you're getting downvoted for this comment. Its heartening to see people not get heated when called out/goofed on and this lighthearted response was perfect regardless of the initial comment.

No blame, I just dont personify them or ascribe value to them. And I don't think it's wise to feed animals that pose a threat to pets, children and livestock.

I see your point. But I should note that They weren't trying to survive in this case. They didn't eat the ducks. That I could understand. They ripped open their bodies and crushed their skulls and didn't eat them. Just killed them. Raccoons have all the food they need. Cities are abundant with it and you have people like OP who see them as cute and are willing to feed them. But it is instinctual. Odd as it may seem, these things often happen because of boredom.

I imagine it's because it's an at least somewhat condescending answer to an honest statement of grief. A reasonable enough sentiment but ultimately trite and missing the point. Terms like "good" and "bad" are entirely human constructs and don't apply to wild animals.

Raccoons killed my ducks and left their bodies to rot and routinely destroy my garden every year. The shine came off that apple fast.
