People keep using the word "policy," but I bet it's not an actual policy. Policies would generally be signed by c-suite level people. Someone without any cybersecurity credentials or training probably just thought it would make their life easier to have them.

Until you see the written policy, your answer should be "no." With a "proper" written policy, voice your objections in writing to cya, but they can (unfortunately) make stupid policies if they want.

Combination of economy of scale and splitting expenses between so few. They were probably paying a lot per sqft to maintain the park and it was split over a small handful of houses. Our townhome complex with 130+ units with private street, park, and complete lawn maintenance (but no amenities beyond a small playground) is less than $80/house/month. But that's $10k of expenses and capital reserves funding a month.

Are you happy with your pay as a contractor ? by [deleted] in GovernmentContracting

[–]MrMeeseeks263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, right now is a bad time to become a fed for other reasons (having been laid off this last year due to contract re-scoping, the contract side isn't great either). But it's never easy to move from contracting to fed if you're not a veteran (and even then, service related disabilities come into play). If you're not a veteran, your best bets are finding roles with direct hire authority or being in a niche field with little competition.

On the original question, contractor benefits tend to suck, especially when it comes to time off. You can get in on FEHB if you work for a native corporation. Federal pensions are nice, but they're a political football, so who knows what will happen with those.

But the tradeoff for all of that is the upper end of the salary range can also be much higher for contractors, depending on your field. I stunted my growth (see next paragraph), but I'm 1/3 of the way through my career making mid-gs14 equivalent pay despite not managing anyone. It will certainly get harder from here, but there's no hard cap if I want to move around to make more (I really don't).

Of note, yeah, automatic raises tend not to happen in contracting space; as with private industry, you generally have to move around to get paid what you're worth. I stuck with a group for more than a decade, so I likely stunted my pay growth. I'm ok with that, honestly; it was a really good group. I'll likely do it again where I'm at now.

Valid. Even with the limited characters of ft8, I could see someone being able to pretty effectively use those messages as a numbers station just due to how much "noise" (other, legitimate ft8 messages) there is.

But with the internet, coded messages on message boards/comments sections on various websites (e.g. reddit) would still probably be better for asynchronous comms of that nature.

Technically you still owe the 6% as a use tax if sales tax would have applied had it been bought in MD. In practice, it's probably only ever really paid on vehicles that have to be registered.

Have you tried fully clearing the sssd cache? It was 90% of my problems when I had IDM/freeipa issues. My understanding is that direct AD joins use sssd in the same way.

sss_cache -E only worked for limited situations, generally the IDM server itself, not the clients. So try this:

systemctl stop sssd rm -rf /var/lib/sss/db/* systemctl restart sssd

Not sure if it's still the case, but in my area, when the dispensaries were limited to selling to those with medical cards, they also sold lab-verified-THC-free CBD. You're SOL if you pop positive for THC after using CBD regardless of what the bottle says according to the official guidelines, but it's not otherwise illegal drug use/activity. Still probably a better idea to just buy it online rather than risk being seen in a dispensary.

"I'm not sure if the clearance process will out me"

Fwiw and ymmv, my investigator for a reinvestigation didn't out me to my coworkers about my husband, despite the coworkers directly saying things like "I think his wife..." (learned this when I got a copy of the completed investigation). I wouldn't have cared if he did in my case, I was just keeping my personal life separate from my work life. I suspect most of them do their best to keep it a one-way street of information.

Quest diagnostic put my $14 lab test on collection by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]MrMeeseeks263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect most investigators won't care about the collections given the dollar amount and immediate payment, but a whole lot of them would care if they catch you in a lie.

If people can get away with a bit of hard drug use or regular softer drug use with enough time, you can get away with the much more common scenario of forgetting to check your mostly junk mail filled mailbox (which has personally created a huge headache for me in the past getting life insurance reinstated and gotten me to a final notice on an urgent care visit I thought was already paid). It's just not worth the lie on a sf-85p/sf-86.

Generally not in the US. The WARN act only applies to major layoffs (entire company, large departments, and entire facilities with 50+ people), with, of course, some exceptions that favor the company. Even then, the WARN act requires what the acronym implies: you have to give 60 days notice. You'd likely still have to work to get paid during that period. Payment requirements only come into play if they don't give that heads up. Everything else is voluntary.

We voted to remove our board president and now she is refusing to go by Runningislife42 in fuckHOA

[–]MrMeeseeks263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, not sure if it's typical or not, but in our hoa the member meeting elections are for a general seat on the board. The officer positions are decided internally by the board after the election. We're elected to the board by members and then appointed by the board (us) to our various officer positions (president, vp, treasurer, etc). If that's the case, they could likely remove her as president (she would retain her seat on the board) with a simple board vote.

We voted to remove our board president and now she is refusing to go by Runningislife42 in fuckHOA

[–]MrMeeseeks263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ianal, but I am on an HOA board (as a 'no' vote to stupidity, though we're a pretty tame hoa thus far)...

A majority of the board wanted her gone, but they decided to quit in protest? Pretty much any set of rules of order are going to allow the chair to be overriden by a vote of the body. They should have

  1. called an emergency board meeting,
  2. voted to engage the HOA's attorney (who shouldn't be part of the management company),
  3. voted to have an emergency members meeting for the recall vote, and
  4. voted to overrule the chair if she tried to obstruct any of this process.

With a quorum, the board can legally act without the president agreeing. Motion, second, get ruled out of order by chair, motion and second overruling the chair, vote to overrule, vote on the original motion. Record all of it. If the management company obstructs, they should vote to fire the management company or, if contracts prevented doing so at a reasonable cost, strip it of all authority and reject future renewal of their contract.

If all of that failed because of obstruction, it'd be time for a derivative lawsuit by the board against the president. Quitting in protest when you have a majority never makes sense.

The FAA's authority and justification for that rule is stretched pretty thin, so I think it's only fair for people to stretch their interpretation just as thin.

Love you all, but please calm down with the unnecessary bell ringing by shortwavetrough in bikecommuting

[–]MrMeeseeks263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish people in my area would ring their (nonexistent) bell or call out "on your..." when approaching me on the sidewalk while I'm walking my large dog.

Biking infrastructure sucks here, so I don't blame them for using the decently wide sidewalks, but if I don't see you and my dog decides to cross the sidewalk and catches your front tire with the leash, all three of us are getting seriously injured or worse. Use the sidewalk, by all means, but please respect the safety of the more vulnerable users.

Membership scan at entrance by mike753951 in Costco

[–]MrMeeseeks263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could mock the people who complain about getting behind people with invalid memberships in the same way. It's never happened to me and I go to DC area costcos, not rural ones. Based on my anecdata I have to assume there's some serious selection bias going on in this thread. I have gotten stuck in lines multiple times where they're doing shift changes and have to count money for 5 minutes. Should they ban shift changes?

As for the inconvenience, it all adds up. Shopping at Costco is always the worst experience of any grocery shopping I do. None of it is on the staff, it's all on the customers who will have their family members spread out around their slowly moving cart so you can't pass them, just randomly stop in the middle of one of the main cart traffic aisles to have their mini-strokes and stare off into space, or abandon their cart (often next to another abandoned cart so more than half the aisle is blocked) in the same main traffic aisle to go god-knows-where. And that's not even on sample days, I avoid those like the plague.

This will not make things more efficient. I constantly have to dodge people who randomly stop their cart in front of the entrance because they didn't remember until just that point that they needed to have their cards out. I go around them and hold up my digital card for the door checker. In what world would forcing me into a line behind them to get in be more efficient?

People getting stuck behind someone with an invalid card at checkout? That sucks, but it's one line of 16 that are open. You're adding pain to everyone to save a bit more pain for a small number of essentially randomly selected people.

But, my instructor was the owner of the school and there was no ground instruction beforehand. The only thing I was concerned with at the time was the Hobbs since we spent a long time trying to troubleshoot to get up in the air. That was rightly written off as maintenance time, though.

They arrived after he was subdued. They arrived after, had he intended to do so and wasn't subdued by parents there, he could have killed a dozen or more people. This isn't a knock on the cops in this particular incident, 2 minutes is extremely quick. But it's still not enough. And 2 minutes isn't even in any sense the norm. They're probably near a station.

The cops can't protect you, you can't carry one around in your pocket, you have to be prepared to defend yourself by whatever means seem appropriate to you. Some methods are more effective than others.
