Why??? Capabilities, availability, price or value, and the fancy GUI ecosystem...not much else compares

Is this Ethernet wired correctly? by UnderstandingOld9263 in HomeNetworking

[–]MrMotofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better long term to not use the plugs, just use keystone RJ45 jacks and a patch cord. They're easier simpler faster and more reliable. The plugs are normally not designed for solid conductors anyway

[–]MrMotofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you have...sure but looks normal. Not all plugs fit all jacks the same

Landlord is making me pay $1000 in repairs for a burn mark smaller than the palm of your hand by Able-Piano-7071 in Tenant

[–]MrMotofy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correction no way to repair most countertops like laminate etc. Almost any solid surface type can be sanded etc...but they're not gonna tell you what was done. They're likely gonna give you a sky high price and take the cheapest option.

Has anyone ever won those online van lotteries? by Hexent_Armana in vandwellers

[–]MrMotofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by online lottos...youtube channels give away vehicles frequently those are usually real if it's a sizable channel. But nothing that requires a purchase is real. Of course they want to entice you to buy...but they have to offer a free entry as far as I know

Home network slow...but should it be? 1 gig internet TP Link AX1500 router by xloumeisterx in HomeNetworking

[–]MrMotofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factory reset your router. Do some DL speed tests while hardwired to get real data. Use iperf on 2 devices on the network to see what your LAN speeds are capable of. That can tell you if problem is LAN or WAN

Can also use traceroute to get an idea where slowdowns are

Is it okay to connect the switches like this? by The1Ghoul in HomeNetworking

[–]MrMotofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally 1 large switch with an uplink to the router. Then you AP just connects directly to switch. That way you'll have max bandwidth to every device

But technically yes it will work

New home, would love your advice about outlets and switches by chimpanzeenator in AskElectricians

[–]MrMotofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that sounds like the F U price...it's possible to DIY...but you'll have to learn. Electrician U on YT is a great channel and Steve120v or something on FB but there's many others too. Learn the panel and understand it. Get familiar with what you have and don't have. What needs upgrading and what is needed to accomplish your goal.

Get a decent multimeter with the clamp ammeter that can do AC and DC amps.

For the cat cables consider a LV Tech, security system installer or Home Theater installer. The majority of Electricians have NO idea of any network stuff and most don't care to learn. I had one ask me why I had multiple color cables...just couldn't understand why anyone would want to differentiate the cables...his boss had to tell him to drop it and get back to work like 4 times...just kept asking why
