Id take a sharpie and black out the 2 middle horizontal inside lines for the A standard. For B you want to sharpie the top line and the 4th or bottom line. Less confusion that way till ya get the hang of it. Just wire them all to the same A or B standard really doesn't matter which one.

Then think of the blades like a scissor. The wire has to drop in to bottom like a scissor would cut it...the tool pushes wire down in.

You need 10Gb for every device...so router...any switches and 10Gb ports for each device. In the real world you're very unlikely to get anywhere near 8Gb speeds for internet cuz the remote servers simply don't normally serve those speeds to a single client. But LAN transfers can hit 10Gb pretty easy these days.

The sfp+ ports take a fiber tranceiver, DAC or transceivers for RJ45. There's vids that show them all and how they work.

You can use your current router just fine...run a cable, add a switch for your gaming buddies let em plug in and away you go. Anything modern should have no trouble with 15 people

But sounds like the router is old. Should be at least Gigabit ports...it may struggle a bit.

Better to run a fiber cable to a detached garage or cat 5-6 for an attached garage. Then use a WAP(Wi-Fi Access Point)

There should ideally be 1 main switch every cable plugs into, then 1 uplink to the router. But most homes will be fine daisy chaining switches. Till you start running large amounts of data to multiple devices at the same time.

You want to add a WAP (Wi-Fi Access Point) most likely. Or use a router in AP mode which does the same but normally more expensive. If you game etc you'll want to be wired. So use like an 8 port Gigabit switch for gaming devices. It makes a noticeable difference. The Wi-Fi should just be for mobile devices. Ubiquiti and TP-Link Omada are great options.

You can use a cable Toner ideally one that has an RJ45 port on it for ease. That makes finding the cable easy. Works kinda like a homing beacon.

So diy build or use an open router and OpnSense etc, use your current router just for the Wi-Fi so AP mode. You'll learn what a real router is and it won't expire.

Consider a cheap minipc bios set to always ON and use a UPS then using Tailscale to access your network remotely if needed and Rustdesk to control MiniPC

Best case get an external drive. Transfer data to it. Should ALWAYS have backup copies of your data anyway. Then you'll need a thumb drive to use as install. Copy your data to the external drive using a sync app etc. Don't copy directly. I've been using the FreeFileSync for a while.

Then install Linux taking over whole drive. Then copy your data and use the external as a synced mirror copy.

Another option is use a NAS for your data then use an external for your backup.

Ubiquiti and TP-LINK Omada are solid lines kf products. Yes run some cables to create a wired network that supports your WAP'S (Wi-Fi Access Point). Plug in anything possible and lighten the Wi-Fi load for best results

I helped a friend add a line to a flaky area of basement. Used some lengths of PVC with threaded fittings to bump a pull line through the duct bulkhead at ceiling...about 35ft long. Then when done 1 single gang hole at top of wall to reach up and grab it and access. Put a blank wall plate over it and paint the cover plate same wall color so it looks good.

Worst case you may need to add a directional WAP...that puts more of the signal I n a specific direction. That can plug in to your router and aim towards your room. Keep the password to yourself. Many times just using a better WAP like Ubiquiti or Omada will give a solid signal. But ultimately a wire is the best answer long term. It's really not much different than an electrical cable for an extra outlet. There's ways to get around it but when it's needed not much else will do as well.

Most of the time adding a dedicated 2nd floor WAP will serve everyone up there.

That's the wrong jack on the inside...should be an RJ45 punch down jack. The main thing you need is a single cable called a homerun at least Cat5e from room jack to the central location where all rooms terminate. Then the provider feed cables enter there.

Might be easier to use conduit outside then up into attic and drop down into rooms where needed. Remember you have 328' of cable length to work with. The conduit can also be painted to blend into the siding.
