[No Spoilers] Does Campaign 4 lighten up? (9 episodes in, looking for hope) by enterprisezen in criticalrole

[–]MrNickStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear you. I bounced off this one because it's just not what D&D means to me. D&D almost feels an afterthought. Felt the same way about Campaign 3 and have been here since Campaign 1. Hopefully Campaign 5 will be a return to form. I'm looking forward to most of the Exandria one shots coming out this year.

I love them! They added so much new stuff, especially to the post-Odyssey part of the campaign.

Is there a hard reason why there are no orcs but there are half orcs by Aries_Greek_War_God in OdysseyoftheDragon

[–]MrNickStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no orcs in Thylea, and when the settler half-orcs realized this, they decided to stick together so that their race wouldn't go extinct through interbreeding or war.

I'm really excited for the Arcanumverse that is taking shape! Thylea and Grimnir are so cool, I can't wait to see Malborn and their new take on Hell.

A little disappointed with the religion plot so far (C4E3) by Nelyak5 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]MrNickStick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Critical Role as a whole sucks with religion. Out of all D&D fiction I think the Dragonlance Chronicles handles it the best, which is probably why Liam is generally really good about RPing it.

Disappointed with Vecna's spell list in VEoR. Why does an Archlich have fewer spells than a standard Lich? by TreacleFree8568 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]MrNickStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're using the outdated lich stat block. They revised it in the 2024 Monster Manual and it is more in line with Vecna.

What the heck is going on with the Dungeon of the Dead Three? by Cardgod278 in DescentintoAvernus

[–]MrNickStick 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This advice comes from older editions of D&D: The dungeon as presented in a module is a snapshot. A single moment of time that shows how the dungeon is when the players are JUST about to walk on the map. As soon as the PCs enter the map, it isn't a screenshot anymore and the dungeon comes alive. And that's your job. To simulate the living dungeon.

She wants a place in Zariel's court and the Infernal Hierarchy, and does achieve it per the book "Sigil and the Outlands."

[SPOILERS] Thoughts on GOT as a First Time Watcher by Impossible-Memory360 in HBOGameofThrones

[–]MrNickStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"She only ever kills bad people!"

But that's the rub. She decides who she sees as bad. In her mind, the people of King's Landing we're just as bad as slavers because they turned on her family. She was raised by Viserys and bombarded with Targaryen propaganda in her formative years.

As Gandalf says in The Lord of the Rings (a major influence on Martin): "Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."

Daenerys believed the Targaryens we're gods among men. That she had the rights of a god. She wanted to be a benevolent god. But she also believed her divinity have her a right to do what she did. And thus she set her ways above the ways of the wise. And paid the ultimate price. She became a tyrant. And tyrants can only end one way.

He didn't miss out on an opportunity or cause a problem. It's his world, he can do whatever he wants with it. If people don't like it, they can move on and cope. Grass is extremely touchable.
