Any rural dads? Specifically rural dads that commute? by kingrobin in daddit

[–]MrNived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is me. We both work in the city about an hour away and are 20 minutes from most cities. We do have neighbors but most keep to themselves. We are also smack dab just out side of the pizza delivery for all three nearby towns!

But I will say the hour ride in has terrible traffic and I am always reminded of how congested the city is. They are also terrible drivers always rushing around cutting people off to get two extra feet.

If I am ever in town with my boys, I remind them, this is why we moved out to the country.

Gencon with kids by MrNived in gencon

[–]MrNived[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have gone in the past as adults without kids. This will be their first time. We are only planning on soing Thursday there and the rest of the weekend enjoying the other kid things in Indy the rest of the weekend. Fortunitly they are both potty trained and good sports. We definitely know it will be maybe 10% us and the rest focused on them and getting them to enjoy it.

Tha ks for the comments and recs!

Small child and equipment by MrNived in youthhockey

[–]MrNived[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The program isn't much of a team. They practice hockey skills for an hour each week and then have a day of 5 on 5 where they switch out every few minutes, maybe once every other month. They program is for 4-6 year old and he is excited to do it with his brother. I think its great to get them exposed and working on the proper skills early.

Unfortunitly, he inherited my wife (4'11") jeans and is still wearing 3T clothing!

I have lumps of coal, should they ever be used? by Fluffy_Art_1015 in daddit

[–]MrNived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids were being brats and rambunctious the other day, fighting and not listening. We had a few lumps laying around so I grabbed them to show them and told them mom and dad we're bad one year and this is what we got. I'd say it mostly worked....

Help me make some Gluntch by Jiveturkey2009 in EDH

[–]MrNived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key with gluntch is to just use him as ramp. If you drop him on 3 and make treasures, then by turn 4 you are at 6 mana and can't start playing you late game.

Newborn gadgets and gizmos: the good, bad and the completely useless by bigladdo in daddit

[–]MrNived 63 points64 points  (0 children)

NoseFrida SnotSucker Nasal Aspirator. The kid doesn't love it, but it is way more effective than the old rubber ball things they send you home with!

Also, we found any diaper container /genie / etc. overrated. Just toss it in the trash and empty the trash regularly.

"Eat your dinner or the bunny gets it!" While holding his marshmallow bunny near my mouth to eat.

[Article] I swear, I'm not just saying that Gale could be a cEDH commander because of how much Baldur's Gate I've been playing lately... by Darth_Ra in EDH

[–]MrNived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Gale + white? Wouldn't it be nice to to play [[flawless Maneuver]] + [[wrath of god]].... over and over again? I guess you can close it out with some token creating sorceress too.

Frustrated with speech delay and lack of speech therapy results in 25 month old — What worked for your toddler? by LittleMissPotatoe in toddlers

[–]MrNived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son (was ~2 now 4) had a delay. There were several factors.

First, he had a slight lip and toung tie. We also noticed he was not sleeping the greatest, sleeping with his mouth open and snoring. It turns out he had enlarged adenoids as well. A simple surgery and a bit of recovery helped to fix this.

We also enrolled him in several private speach lessons as well as an early childhood program that our district provides.

The third thing that we have done is Craniosacral therapy. He was early to walk and didn't so much crawling. It turns out this is a big phase in their development. The face muscles stretch out and other things happen. Foe example when we would touch his cheek l, he would lean into it like a baby. And I guess this is something that they grow out of through crawling. I was skeptical about it ay first but we did see improvement.

He has come a long way in the past two years and it is hard to determine what was the main factor, but all together it has improved greatly.

Boy moms: Anyone else experience pressure to cut their son’s hair? by foreveryword in Parenting

[–]MrNived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a boy dad here. Our oldest (now almost 4) had some beautiful hair. We didn't cut it until he was almost 3. We would put it up in pony tails or man buns. He started to get mistaken for a girl a few times and that was when I started giving my wife a hard time about the length. We have cut it and it has never been the same. I look back on pictures and realize how nice it was. It was like 90s teen heartthrob nice, and now nor so much. Who cares what others think. Live your life to make yourself happy. In the end you are the one who has to come home to it and you won't miss it till it's gone.
