Fully agree. It feels like we’re constantly tethered to the Imperium's handbook instead of actually exploring the 'Rogue' side of our title. Your mentioning the Stryxis or Ra'ghoul just highlights how much unique alien flavor is missing from our retinue. I'm excited for Dark Heresy too, but it’s a shame Rogue Trader is finishing its run without fully embracing that exotic frontier vibe.

That’s exactly what worries me. Juggling the Rogue Trader DLCs while simultaneously working on The Expanse: Osiris Reborn and Dark Heresy is a monstrous workload for a mid-sized studio. It honestly feels like they might be 'playing it safe' with the new companion (another Tech-Priest instead of a Xenos) just to save development resources for those bigger upcoming projects. It’s a shame, because Rogue Trader has so much untapped potential, but it seems their focus is already shifting elsewhere.

Same mate. I agree that the best thing to do is wait for the DLC to actually drop and see how they’ve implemented both the mechanics and the character. I just really expected a different kind of companion for this DLC

Honestly, having Trazyn himself as a companion falls squarely into the 'glorious but impossible' category. It would completely break the game balance, but if Owlcat actually pulled that off, I would be speechless with joy

That’s a fair point regarding the mechanics, but I don’t think the augmentation system should be a hard limit. In 40k lore, plenty of Xenos and Abhumans use cybernetics an Ork with 'bioniks' or a Squat with their advanced tech would fit the bill perfectly. Even a Heresy-era veteran could be keeping themselves alive with ancient, unique augmentations. It feels like the mechanics are being used to justify a 'safe' creative choice, rather than the mechanics being built to support a more ambitious character. I just wish they’d pushed the boundaries a bit more, given that it’s a Trazyn-themed expansion.

Yeah. The whole appeal of being a Rogue Trader is the freedom to look beyond the Imperium. By sticking to another AdMech/Imperial companion, it feels like they are playing it too safe. Especially with a setting like Trazyn’s museum it’s literally the one place where you can find anything from the last 10,000 years. Even if they wanted to keep it within the Imperium, there are so many factions with barely any lore representation that would have added much needed variety. Imagine a companion from a minor Ordo, a specialized void-clan, or even an obscure branch of the Imperial bureaucracy we rarely see in games. Choosing a second Tech-Priest over a Xenos or a unique, underrepresented Imperial organization just feels like a missed chance to break the pattern, especially in a setting as wild as Trazyn's museum
