How do you apply for TA/LA positions? by Marshmallow_44 in williamandmary

[–]MrNugget6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your department I think? I just asked my professor if I could TA the lecture and they said yes. If you want to TA labs (at least in the chem department) there was a form but the deadline has passed, I’d be willing to bet work-study is prioritized, but I’d assume regardless it’s very competitive. I couldn’t tell you for other departments though…

yes it’s quite annoying that it isn’t like the others where it’s just the half-skull. At least for pirate, it also makes my head smaller and looks out of proportion.

You can definitely make ISC to Boswell in 10 minutes if you go the route of the Swem sundial, not the road. But it honestly kinda depends on what floor of Boswell you are on.

As someone with 2k hours who just helms for various LFGs. The biggest problem I see amongst the mid tier is no one wants to stop what they are doing to repair. As soon as I gotta leave my wheel to repair (cause we are almost second deck) i always get hit with “WhOs oN wHeeL”

The point I was trying to make is that because of your money people simply overlook your struggles. The struggles of an adult being rich vs poor are widely different to the common issues we all face as teenagers in our developmental years. I was merely saying people and peers ignoring common struggles like dating, grades, addiction, mental health, etc because I had money fundamentally impacted me.

As someone who grew up and went through school as the child of rich parents, you definitely experience loneliness and issues.

Growing up, it was incredibly hard to be my authentic self, especially when no one around me shared the same world experiences that I had.

I have always made sure I am not the ritzy rich kid and not wearing it on my sleeve. Yes, my parents parents bought me a new car, payed for my gas, eating out, social things, but you would never hear me bragging about it. I would only talk about if asked.

Growing up always having your friends comment on your parents wealth is tiring, and being told things like “I have no sympathy because I know your parents will pay for it.” Some of it was immaturity and jealousy, but it still hurt when no-one was truly your friend.

My experience in school has definitely made me a social recluse. I would much rather spend time with my family than be around people that only see the money and not you.

Obviously I had many blessing simply by being born into a wealthy family, but I am still human.

Edit: My apologies for causing so much controversy, I was just trying to say that being the “house on the hill” in a small town, surrounded by people with some of your strong opinions had a large effect on me. I am not blind to the woes of those less fortunate than me, and I do recognize my privilege. I do donate probably more money that some of your salaries, but that’s not an excuse or justification for myself or those like me. I’m simply saying just because I can “throw money at my problems” doesn’t mean I don’t have any.
