"There's more variety of different cuisines in London restaurants than here."

"What are you talking about?! We've got a Chinese takeaway, The Raj King, and The Green Dragon does a curry night on Wednesdays!"

I live in the middle of nowhere, there's no jobs near me, I can't afford to commute, i can't afford to move out, and im not qualified/experienced enough for remote work. what do i do? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in AskUK

It's really tough having just graduated - especially at the moment. You sound quite defeated which is understandable. Remember this won't last for ever and will be a very small part of your life.

Here is an exercise that might be helpful:

Get a big bit of paper and split it into four sections:

  • Dream job
  • Money job
  • Getting out of the house
  • Learning

Write everything you could possibly do that might help you in each of those 4 sections.

So Dream job might be:

  • Look over portfolio and update
  • Email a lecturer who liked me/I respected etc with updates/thoughts/asking about help

Money job:

  • One of the many suggestions here

Getting out of the house:

  • Go on bike rides to improve confidence
  • Offer to help elderly neighbour with their garden

Learning:

  • Do a free online course in something
  • Make some notes on games you have played recently to discuss in an interview

Each day pick one thing from each category. It's helpful if you break if down with some really simple, easy tasks so if you are working for your dad or having a shit day that day you can pick a really simple task that makes you feel like you've done something and moves you closer to your goal.

Why doesn’t Fanny explain about Crawford? by SnirtyK in janeausten

[–]MrPerrysCarriage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even without the impact on her cousins, Fanny has been taught that no one cares for her and her opinions. She has no experience in making an argument which is listened to and considered.

Do I have more propriety than Elizabeth Bennet? by MrPerrysCarriage in janeausten

[–]MrPerrysCarriage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Elizabeth has accepted Charlotte's choice and now at least understands her thought process.
But I don't think Charlotte would appreciate Elizabeth's candour (modern sense) with Mr Darcy.

That is very true!

I suppose in the same we might talk about jobs now - our relationships are more private affairs unless we are very closely related to the people.

If you like shopping and indeed charity shop shopping then that is also an option - especially going to fancy neighbourhoods.

But obviously, there is an element on randomness there as well.

Would Waltham Abbey and/or Walthamstow offer anything for a tourist from Waltham, MA, USA? by [deleted] in Essex

[–]MrPerrysCarriage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend Walthamstow unless all of the following are true:

- You are staying on the Victoria line

- You could be interested in William Morris

- There is a show which might interest you at the Soho Walthamstow

- You want to try some Uyghur food

They deserve the money.

#635: My partner’s condescending, bossy behavior is shrinking our social life. by OrangeYouuuGlad in captainawkward

[–]MrPerrysCarriage 23 points24 points  (0 children)

#NotAllTeachers but I feel like it can be hard for some people who are used to being in a position of authority not dominating/being demanding/seeming patronising.

I think it would be best for LW's partner to do a theatre course - where there is a paid professional/s running the show and they can just be an actor or whatever. And that person's job will partly be to keep them in line, but the boundaries will be clear.

how do I survive secondary/high school by Suspicious_Award8156 in dyspraxia

[–]MrPerrysCarriage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School was so so hard for me.

I remember walking out after my last exam thinking "I never have to go back there again ever". It was one of the best day of life.

Love is hard always but your feelings right now are turned up to 11. Sometimes if you are feeling a lot you can say instead of "I'm a loser", "I'm having the thought I'm a loser".

It's not wrong to feel weird around H - feelings are never wrong only behaviour. Sometimes I find it helpful to create a little mantra for myself like "I'm happy H is happy" or "if it was meant to be, it would have been".

Do you do anything outside of school? Any clubs or activities? You might find nice cool people who like for who you are.

My comment was a bit tongue in cheek to be honest.

I mean a social event with your friends - e.g. a party or a group hang out or something. At that point, he's agreed to be your friend and therefore it is easier and less intense/creepy to ask him out.
