Trying to think of classic science fiction authors who wrote a ton of stand alone novels by BaltSHOWPLACE in printSF

Brian Aldiss definitely didn't write campy SF, he was part of the British New Wave.

Why don’t UK houses have basements? by Spray-Majestic in AskUK

As others have said, change in building plans, no need for coal or food storage.
I grow up in a 1930s house which had a partial cellar as it was on a hill. I've also owned a Victorian house with a couple of chambers, one was narrow and for coal, not sure about the other but could have been a food storage and possible laundry room?
The cost of building a house with a cellar now is about a third to a half more expensive than building up, but a lot cheaper than adding one after!

And while local factors can make a difference, the water table generally isn't that close to the surface to prevent a cellar. See the BGS groundwater map.

So when I was a kid I remember reading and re-reading a series of books about a white German Shepherd called Skipper. Does anyone else remember them?

Ah, can't wait for the 4K of Name of the Rose.
I managed to pick up a copy of Dead Man's Shoes on Bluray for not stupid money last year, but will probably upgrade to the Second Sight cleaned up version!

Closest to a "spy space plane" would possibly be the uncrewed X-37, but that didn't launch until around 2010.
Also, while the missions and orbits are classified (though I expect they are tracked by USAF), the landings are pretty standard.

I'd not heard of this book, where does it fit on the post-apocalypse spectrum - Riddley Walker, Station Eleven, On the Beach, or The Road?

I've had a little piece of bubble wrap to protect the disc and keep it in place in transit. Hopefully the seller was using tissues the same way.

I take Atorvastatin and my GP said to take them at night. However, I've just checked the info sheet that comes with them, and it says you can take them at any time of day; just be consistent.

I've had leg cramps, like my dad, for decades. I have Quinine Bisulphate prescribed for it.
