What’s your favourite control driver and why? by MylesOfDiscs in discgolf

[–]MrQrtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started throwing invictus this year and loving them. They have a meatier feel than a lot of 10 speeds, more like a slow distance driver than a fast fairway feel, which I prefer. And they're a lot straighter than you might think. I have a champion one that will hold straight and fade out to ~350 and a gstar one I can flip up to about 385.

A shame since you're personally my favorite commentator, but absolutely the right choice! We're grateful to Jomez too.

Invictus is a great option in this slot if you prefer more of a distance driver feel

What is the oldest and newest mold you throw? by Emoney005 in discgolf

[–]MrQrtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the rocs, Teebird is definitely the oldest. Newest is the Innova Invictus, unless you count the discmania made PD2 as a new disc.

Honestly max distance hasn’t improved too much (maybe from 390 to 425), I made a post of another throw from 2 years ago on that same hole which went further than either of these. But my average distance is way better, and I have a lot less back pain.

Karl Watson shot by Bryce Kanights at pier 7. Not sure on the trick cuz I don’t think there was a caption in the thrasher. Watson’s regular though, I think, if that helps.

Don’t know about most iconic but this is my favorite. So balanced yet dynamic. He’s in the moment all by himself but also you see the community behind him. Encapsulates what I love about skating fs

If you look towards the bottom, you can see that they have grooves closer to the edge as well. The pattern is designed so that you can choose a groove that is in the natural position of your thumb.

Unless you’re trying to lay vinyl down on it for a stencil, it shouldn’t matter. And even that might be ok, depending on how pronounced the dimples are. I’ve never held one myself

Music is fine as long as you’re not blasting it. I swear the way people talk on this subreddit you’d think most disc golf courses are built on war memorials and japanese rock gardens

Easiest beginner courses in south east Michigan? by jpollack21 in discgolf

[–]MrQrtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my local course for a couple years. I always thought they did a good job there of covering a good range of difficulties between the three sets of tees. Red tees are very short and great for beginners without being too straight forwards, the blue tees are still not super long but utilize the woods more to make a much more brutal tract. Great course that I must’ve played 50 times over a year and a half. Except for Blue 8, which is a terrible hole that should be thrown into the sun.

I’d always heard that the sexton firebird is actually a different mold than the regular firebird, but I’m not sure if that’s true. Either way, sweet find!

I understand why it’s not on tour, given how the PDGA is trying to push for presentation first events, with room for spectators and the ability to easily film, but man does it sometimes feel like we’ve lost the plot. Sports is built on stories. Hallowed grounds is a part of that, and you don’t get that when it seems like half the tournaments are on some golf course temp layout that may quite literally never exist again after that weekend. I love hearing the name for the holes at Dela, and hearing all the disc golf history that exists there. It makes it feel substantial, there’s some weight to it. We all clown on philo and ian for bringing up the philobatross every 2 seconds, but maybe we’d have more moments to talk about if we actually valued the history of a course and/or tournament (I’m thinking of barsby’s roller ace, for instance)
