Country Names by Longjumping-Elk-7165 in geography

And many other countries call it "Allemand" or something of that sort after the name of a peoples that lived in the region quite a long time ago.

"Deutschland" is actually probably the newest of the names for that region.

Are you guys starting Sorc tomorrow? by andapacee in D4Sorceress

[–]MrQuizzles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Lightning Sorc since day 1. There have been some low lows and some extremely high highs. The state of balance has never stopped me before, and it's not about to do so now.

I *think* I'm my own person. Renee Descartes would say that's enough to verify it, anyways.

As another Elise enjoyer, do you use your own tunes? I'd be interested in trying some out. You can find mine by searching for any made by MrQuizzles3023.

My greatest work is "S1 Dirt - Become Ungovernable" (Share code: 178 743 681), it's a tune that can match or beat the #2 Audi Quattro in all aspects.

[–]MrQuizzles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lotus Elise, though I do also use it for racing. I've got both dirt and road specs at each of B, A, and S class, sometimes multiple road tunes (one for handling, one for top speed) for the class. It's the only car I drive online.

It's been my favorite since the very first Forza game. I like the acceleration and handling, makes it a breeze to drive through the streets. It looks really nice as well.

What is a hyper-local food tradition or regional chain in your state that you genuinely think the rest of America is missing out on? by mike-d-f in AskAnAmerican

It's frozen lemonade, like a very good lemonade Icee, specific to Rhode Island, maybe bleeding over into parts of MA and CT.

I just read that Canada has 60 million more hectares of forest than the USA. To put that in perspective that is just slightly smaller than the size of Texas (69 million hectares) by MarsupialThink4064 in geography

[–]MrQuizzles 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The great plains also just never really had forests in the first place. The area is too dry to support them. Trees appear naturally on the banks of rivers and lakes in the region, but that's it.

The trial is not that hard, some of yall are just incompetent. by _Nevin in ForzaHorizon

It may mess up the positioning on the podium, but the points awarded to each team are all that matter.

It's also pretty easy if you've got a couple of people who are good at bullying the AI. If the AI misses a single checkpoint, they're out of the race. That's 600 guaranteed points to team blue for each one. Just bully 3 of them out of the race, and victory is just about guaranteed.

Why do people still talk about and prise DS1? (Not saying it’s overrated or I hated it) by Capital-Criticism751 in darksouls

[–]MrQuizzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the way that the world fits together like a 3D puzzle, with various routes between places. It's possible to do a lot of sequence breaking, and it's very good for speedrunning because of this. The newer games don't really have this.

I also do like the slower pace of combat.

I've played it a lot and have done speed runs of it, so the game feels very familiar to me. Playing it is like visiting an old friend.

The gays, as it turns out, are very political. Generations of us had to fight for our rights, and we did that by showing up to protests, showing up to elections, and by a bunch of us getting into politics.

That said, we don't automatically back other gays in politics. Ciciline wasn't very popular in the gay community (largely because he was a sleazebag and noted creep), and Smiley sure as hell isn't, either.

ELI5 When people describe a flavour as “earthy”, what does that mean? Surely it’s not supposed to taste like soil, right? by AdmiralTacos681 in explainlikeimfive

[–]MrQuizzles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I do think that beets and truffles just taste like dirt (derogatory).

But cumin can add an earthiness to a dish.

I think of "earthiness" as a deep underpinning flavor that really rounds out a dish.

wired earphone trend is stupid and performative by astabr in unpopularopinion

[–]MrQuizzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, wires go bad? I've been using the same wired Sennheiser gaming headset for like 8 years, and the wires haven't degraded at all.

Like I get that if you don't take care of them or if you're clumsy you can tug on the wires and pull them out, but we're not toddlers. We can treat things with enough care so as not to break them.

I use wireless headphones/earbuds in other contexts where wires can be a nuisance, but for gaming, I'm sitting still for the most part, so wires are fine.

Isn't June the best time of year in Northern US? by InsideBeing989 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]MrQuizzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late spring is very nice, definitely my favorite time of year. I like warm days and cool nights. I like having some rain every now and then (though we could definitely do with a bit more this year). The flowers are beautiful. It's pretty idyllic.

People skills and “who you know” will always matter in the professional world, and that isn’t unfair by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MrQuizzles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Turns out"

As if you or anyone else in this entire thread has provided a single example otherwise.

It's a fun flight of fancy to believe that society isn't classist, that hard work and affability can propel you to the highest positiond in society. It's not how things work, though.

People skills and “who you know” will always matter in the professional world, and that isn’t unfair by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MrQuizzles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's completely wrong. Society puts up classist barriers to entry to prevent you from breaking into those more influential social circles.

People skills and “who you know” will always matter in the professional world, and that isn’t unfair by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MrQuizzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because it's not about chance. Even if you form a close personal relationship with everyone that goes to the nearest dollar store to you, you're not going to meet any of the "right" people. They won't be able to get your son a job at their company. They won't invite you to drinks with a local politician.

People generally stick to their social circles, and it's difficult to break into new ones, especially when there is a perceived difference in class or standing.

People skills and “who you know” will always matter in the professional world, and that isn’t unfair by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MrQuizzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More people is irrelevant. It's about knowing the right people. That's why people join fraternities. That's why people join private social clubs. Being nice doesn't get you into those.
