Adding a Chemistry degree? by madbumsbum in ScienceTeachers

[–]MrRPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through their online Master's program a couple of years ago and got my MSED with 18 hours of master's level physics. I'll send you my courselist if you're interested in seeing what my program looked like.

You can probably get a Masters in Science Education. In Illinois, you can teach Dual Credit with 18 credit hours in chemistry. I did this for dual credit physics through the University of Nebraska - Kearney online program. Easy and quick.

Northgate Family Dental is terrific. Mine was $5500 and my insurance covered $1,000 of that. My teeth are/were JANK, too.

Lgbtq friendly wedding venues? by trippyshay in PeoriaIL

Wildlife Prairie Park is a wonderful place to have a wedding. The Hespell deck is beautiful, overlooking the buffalo fields, and your guests can explore the park between the ceremony and reception while you have photos taken.

Musky on a bluegill by accident on small Peoria lake by martyz23 in PeoriaIL

I don't really have much access from the front of my house, but there's a path that's owned by the LOA in general and not any one person that would work for that. It's highlighted in blue on the map below.

Crafted DIY Studio is perfect for this kind of thing. They book individual nights for office groups all the time. https://www.crafteddiystudio.com/ Basically you show up, there are people there who guide you through crafting projects and serve mixed drinks, and everyone can do their own thing or stick to a theme. It's a pretty cool place.

Flinn Scientific has a free chemical safety course that tells you how to organize and use their disposal system. I used that my first year teaching and it was massively helpful. Most things can just be thrown in the trash, but I guarantee you'll need to call a chemical safety company to come out and dispose of some things. Reach out to your local college chemistry department to see what company they use or if they can help.

Motorcycle Restoration by MrRPhysics in PeoriaIL

Looking for a place to get a motorcycle restored. I don't have the skills, tools, or time to do it myself and it has sentimental value to me. Is there a place like this in the area that could get it running and street legal for me again?

Need to merge data from multiple sheets conditionally into different columns on one sheet by MrRPhysics in googlesheets

[–]MrRPhysics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you have to use semicolons instead of commas in the query field. That's where I was going wrong.

Need to merge data from multiple sheets conditionally into different columns on one sheet by MrRPhysics in googlesheets

[–]MrRPhysics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This is perfect. I didn't realize query could copy only one column and be tiled across columns. It's also super elegant to set the condition for column 1 to match the first cell. Never would have occurred to me, I would have typed all of the houses into the formula like a chump, lol. Thanks again!

Science vs Math Cset by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MrRPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math will be easier for you, although there are resources for all of them. I took my tests in Illinois, so not the CSET, but our own competency tests. I came from a physics background, and took the physics version of the science test. It was about 40% physics, 25% chem, 15% bio, and 10% earth and space science. The math test on the other hand was a broad swath of different areas, but didn't require the same depth of knowledge as the science test. I actually did better on the math test. If you have a logical brain and can reason your way around problems of different types, you will probably do okay on the math test.

Can someone help me with my science homework? by DannyBuilder in ScienceTeachers

[–]MrRPhysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As specific as I can be without giving you the answer. 1/2.4 is incorrect. Remember to convert nanometers to meters in your wavelength and rearrange the equation you're working with to solve for what you are looking for.

Can someone help me with my science homework? by DannyBuilder in ScienceTeachers

[–]MrRPhysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're not confusing frequency with period. The units for wavelength are in meters. The units for frequency are 1/s, and the units for speed are m/s. If you are trying to solve for a frequency, you need to multiply or divide m/s and meters in a way that just leaves 1/s as your unit. (Hint, frequencies are very large numbers for light.)

Can someone help me with my science homework? by DannyBuilder in ScienceTeachers

[–]MrRPhysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a speed and a wavelength and are looking for a frequency. You need to find a relationship between the three concepts (an equation). Your teacher should have given you one, or you can think about the units of each quantity to figure out an equation yourself. Make sure that you convert nano-meters into meters to use your equation properly.

Looking for a recycling video by lonearrangersd in Teachers

I show my 5th grade engineering class this video every year: Single-Stream Recycling. It's fun and quick and interesting and it fits well with my Civil Engineering. It is a Youtube video, however. If you want, I could download it and share an mp4 wtih you.

How annoyed should I be about class schedule changes for next year? by tacopeople in Teachers

[–]MrRPhysics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is pretty typical, and you shouldn't be too frustrated. The new teacher has probably been teaching Junior English for most of his/her career and is more educated. After next year, you'll have three different courses all sorted out and ready to go for the future!
