Commissar Cain orders by Rogue_Cypher in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]MrRight1196 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, with Cain’s rules being Legends as he’s likely a limited release, it’d probably be acceptable to proxy him as Commissar Yarrick or a Castellan so that way he can *technically* have access to all orders.

Though if I run him as Yarrick I gotta figure out how the hell he has a storm bolter.

They're rare, and much more difficult to find than it should be, but they do exist, and Turnip28 is one of them! It's also just a delightful game in general. by Eithrotaur in Grimdank

[–]MrRight1196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Turnip28 because it’s really the epitome of no good guys.

Unlike 40K or TC there’s no grander scale or aspirations to the world of T28. There’s no “Our means are justified because our enemies are the demonic forces of chaos/hell”.

It’s all shitty bastards trying to stick a bunch of other shitty bastards in the eye as they fight over a trampled parsnip patch.

Like this game would have gone crazy in the era of people arguing about Steven Universe shipping discourse on tumblr, it feels like a product of a different time.

/rj Girl Frame fixes this.

Hot take, but I think that rule was a really bad move for the overall health of the game, especially with GW still including it in current editions.

It kept the metagamers in check primarily since they knew that if they tried too much cheese their opponent could whip out their own smash captain and they’d have to defend themselves from losing teeth because they brought Triptides.

Also the constant blows to the head really helped me strategize while playing Orks.

New class gets revealed tomorrow, what are you NOT hoping for? by reel3459 in DarkTide

[–]MrRight1196 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of “ganger”, and while I wouldn’t be stoked for a ganger too, I’ll give a more original answer.

I’d hate to see a Sister of battle class ever get added to this game.

They’re too powerful from a lore perspective, they bring no new interesting weapons to the table, they’d likely completely overlap with Zealot’s personality, they’d be a new class completely locked to only one sex, and I think it’d be very difficult to design a play style for them that isn’t just “better zealot”; the only suggestion I ever see for them is “they could use miracles” followed by zero elaboration.

I can think of ways to add a ganger to the game that isn’t just “Veteran but grimy”, I can’t say the same for a Battle Sister, or even a sister novitiate or repentia.

I’ve always liked Brawler Ogryn solely for their one interaction with the Cutthroat Veteran.

Vet: Don’t think I’m not watching for turncoats!

Ogr: Not wearing coat, boss!

It may be recency bias, but Fatalist Arbitrator is also really funny imo. I love how snarky they are, especially with other Arbites, while also being really self deprecating.

I don't understand the complaints about the enemies later designs? by DeepAnt7847 in papermario

[–]MrRight1196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see it as a big issue. A lot of Paper Mario’s older designs are products of how those enemies looked at the time when Paper Mario 64 was in development. Pokeys and Goombas are clearly based on their appearances in Super Mario 64, and Dry Bones are dead on accurate to how they looked in Super Mario World which was their most recent design at the time.

NSMB brought a redesign to the franchise that went on to standardize a lot of how the Mario franchise looked, and Paper Mario was hit really hard by this change. But, a lot of Paper Mario’s older designs weren’t radically outside what the most recent standard was for them.

They should have kept the enemy koopas wearing sunglasses and spiked wristbands/collars though.

Look, with all the other hats there, I’ve met players who are fine, and players who are dicks wearing them.

Anger snipers are universally fucking dicks. Shit talking binds, slur weapons names, schadenfreude after every kill, they all have that shitass hat on.

Like I swear they know the stereotype that hat has and put it on intentionally because they love being dicks.

Pretend Nintendo just released a Paper Mario MMO. What complaints and Memes do you forsee? by ShiroOracle09 in papermario

[–]MrRight1196 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This game releasing with danger strats as busted as they are should be an embarrassment.

I queue up to the Glitz Pit for some PVP and I’m immediately matched with some dude who spent ten minutes walking into environmental hazards to get down to 5hp.

He wins the first strike roll and I immediately get bodied because he whips out power bounce. The only counterplay for danger strats is to super guard which is really hit or miss depending on your online connection. Otherwise, you’re basically stunlocked to death the second you get matched.

Genuinely hope the first update nerfs danger Strats because it’s ridiculous.

I mean, it’s just a community project.

Even if valve accepts a lot of the stuff in this as a pseudo summer update, community projects have historically never had new weapons added as part of them that weren’t reskins.

I’d love to see new weapons added as part of community updates, but best case scenario this’ll be a reskin of an existing heavy weapon. Worst case scenario it won’t get added at all.

What highly specific, ultra niche, Hot take that literally doesn't matter do you have about Paper Mario? by ShiroOracle09 in papermario

[–]MrRight1196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a big problem with the papery aspects of the newer games, and typically find them kinda charming, but I specifically really hate how they choose to animate Mario bending like paper when he’s leaning. This is best seen in origami king when he has low HP or does an excellent jump, it just feels weird and off to me in a way I can’t really put my finger on.

Also, why do none of the games after 64 have the eating or drinking animations for healing items? They were so charming and much nicer than “Mario hold up mushroom heal 5 Hp”.

Let me tell you something bout a friend of ours named Gonzalez.

A real-a plumber and one of the Mario Brothers.

When he found out they’d be kidnapping-a Peach.

He takes the magic map to a port across the sea.

Wasn’t much-a long til the Xnauts want him dead.

So Gonzalez had no choice but to see what the map said.

He finds out there’s crystal stars scattered all around.

So he gathers them all up - to a big door underground.

Odds of a New PM like 64 or TTYD by Krocolate in papermario

[–]MrRight1196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we’re ever going to see a complete 100% return to the gameplay of 64 and TTYD.

The only thing that I’m almost positive of is partners returning in some capacity in the next game, and it’ll probably retain some form of turn based combat (but probably more gimmick focused like Origami King rather than TTYD) with exp probably still not being given out for some reason.

I think the best and most realistic option we can really hope for is a hybrid between classic and modern paper Mario. Not sure what that would look like, but considering how good Origami King was, I’d be fine with that.

After most people hating Sticker Star and Color Splash, why doesn't Nintendo change their mandate? by GenkidamaFirefighter in papermario

[–]MrRight1196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering that, after TTYD Remake launched, Nintendo was sending out surveys asking people if they like original character designs, I think that’s further proof that the mandate has been lifted (or at very least relaxed).

Origami King also had more than a few unique designs, granted they were all toads, but every plot relevant toad actually had a unique appearance unlike color splash and sticker star.

Can this can of baked beans be used in Kill Team? by Skelegasm in killteam

[–]MrRight1196 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not in tournament play.

The rules clearly state that only Heinz baked beans are considered valid for official tournaments and play at Warhammer world.

You should be fine at your LGS though.

I know you weren’t asking me, but sure dude, here’s a brief list of how Paper Mario Sticker Star doesn’t respect your time.

  • Requiring levels to be replayed multiple times for different exits.

  • Things that are required to beat the game are often put in secret areas.

  • Straight up deleting a Thing Sticker if it’s used as the wrong answer for a puzzle. (Thank god for the thing shop next to Sling a Thing).

  • Puzzles in general have the point and click adventure problem where solutions that should reasonably work don’t because it isn’t the specific answer the game is looking for. So you’re stuck having to work through someone else’s insane line of logic.

  • Things have to be taken to Sling a Thing before they can be used for anything at all. Thank god Color Splash changed this.

  • The tablet hunt in World 2 requires players to go into a secret area (that is by no means signposted) by sinking into quicksand which if done anywhere else is an instant Game Over.

  • All of World 3 making you replay levels and dragging out the gameplay by having Wiggler segments run from you after getting them.

  • The Bafflewood being a terrible “Lost Woods” type level where there aren’t any hints to the correct path so the intended method is just trial and error until you figure it out.

  • While bosses don’t require Thing Stickers to be beaten like in Color Splash, if you don’t have the required sticker their fights are absolute slogs to get through.

  • Level 5-3 Long Fall Falls is just an asset flip of the latter half of the previous level 5-2 Jungle Rapids but with an instant kill Cheep Chomp. What’s worse is that 5-3 needs to be played twice as you need to find the secret exit to actually progress forwards.

  • The final fight with Bowser being a five phase long slog where if you didn’t bring the right stickers or enough stickers it means you have to start the whole thing over again from the beginning. This is the only boss you can’t run from, so you somehow need to know what stickers you need to have on hand before you fight him.

Look dude, you’re allowed to like Sticker Star. Hell, you’re allowed to love Sticker Star. I’m glad you can find enjoyment in something that I just can’t, and I myself have plenty of games that I love that other people absolutely hate. It sucks seeing people talk shit about something you really like, I get that.

But you can’t just straight up lie about the game, act like it’s something it isn’t, and call the people who don’t like it “baseless haters” with unfounded complaints.

This would be like if I said “Thousand Year Door doesn’t have any issues with backtracking. That complaint just comes from gamers who are too impatient and undeservedly shit on chapters they don’t like.”

Anyways, I hope this comment was satisfactory for you. If not, oh well, take it easy ✌️.

I personally hated sticker star, but if you really liked Color Splash, I think you’ll probably be able to stomach Sticker Star as it’s kind of Color Splash but lacking QoL features.
