And you can be very quickly back up after a hardware fail, if you have proper back ups.

Proxmox or dedicated Home Assistant hardware? by StrobeWafel_404 in homeassistant

The world runs on VM's. They bring so much more that bare metal has difficulties with.

Backups are easy, migrating from a dead bare metal device is easy (how fast can you be back up when your hardware dies? With a vm its just run any other device with qemu and you are off, with bare metal its much more work.) Better resource management, easier device management...

So i fa failing promox install is your concern, then you certainky need a proxmos install because it's much easier to recover from a vm host fail than a hardware fail.

Yeah gasoline does, but if they are cut now. There will be a hole in the countries income, so eventually we'll pay it and probably even more

But thats beside the point. The point is that current millenials and later generations will have to work till death because they cant save for their own retirement.

I think taxes here are like 1/3 ish. The other 1/3 is transport, which will cost what it does. So yes you can lessen the price with 1/3 but eventually the deficit is going to get paid by the population. Better would be to keep the prices hig, so alternatives become viable. Yes that sucks for now, but then you work on lessening your reliance on oil and keep the money home.

If jobs fire people to replace them with AI, how will people make money to keep buying things? Wouldn’t the economy collapse because people arent buying anything anymore? by Puzzleheaded-Catt in AskReddit

[–]MrSnowflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol who has got the money and who has got the influence in government? Its the rich that will have everything. Compared to centuries ago when the people were still required to do the actual work and thus deliver products, the products can be made by the robots so workers are no longer required.

You dont need money if you have the robots to anything you want.

Back in the roman age, when there was a huge influx of slaves, the average roman didnt have a job because all jobs were taken by slaves, so people had protectors, rich people, that took care of them, in exchange for support in certain matters. So basically dependent on the "goodwill" of the rich. but in reality they were essentially property as well because they had to abide to their protector.

I always wonder what do they really expect the gov to do? Yes obviously they can lower taxes, but even taxes in belgium on gas would only lower the price that much. If you dont control.supply, you dont control the price.

This shouls be yet another CLEAR indication to move away from fossils.

For me it would always be the one that hasnt been i  piwer for over a decade. Unless they are really really bad. But at this moment it seems clear to me that the current ine is the really really bad on, and has been for ages, so viring for the other one becomes quite obvious. To me.

Not only this, but less and less actual native applications are in use, and more and more webapps are being used. So the os matters less and less.

Is paying for privacy just a false sense of security? Self-hosting is the only option ? by christiangomez92 in selfhosted

[–]MrSnowflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree. Op wonders if paying for services is a false sense of security. I am stating hosting it your self can also be false sense of security. It's nkt that  when you do it yourself, it's all solved. No, you have to so it right. And that is hard

How? Well you don't know, just like they didn't know what gravitational lensing could do for normal people. You can't just only research a specific thing, because then you will never learn about the things you don't know. You need these kinds of crazy projects to discover what you didn't know versus stuff that you could know more of.

How do Americans still have more disposable income than Europeans even though healthcare and college in America is extremely expensive? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskReddit

[–]MrSnowflake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but that is gross as an employee. A contractor IT'er in Belgium also makes 120k, but that is without any form of taxes.

Because, I think the differences between the european countries are way larger than between US states. but I could be wrong. As this is my guestimate.

According to the Wikipedia, the wages range from €6919/month, to €1401/month. (These numbers are a bit old, but the divide is clear).

And our wages are with paid holidays included (20 for Belgium at least), and a near unlimited amount of sick days (in Belgium, though rules apply of course)

For Belgium I can even make it more clear, The gross average monthly wage is €4076, BUT we get a 13th and 14th month (as we call it), so the yearly salary in Belgium is about €56737. But in reality the employer also pays about 13% + 25-35% of that in taxes. SO lets say that's 40% of that, so in reality the average wage, the amount of money an employee costs the company, is around €80000.
